Thanks for providing the bullet points. That’s about what I was expecting. If it weren’t for the fact I’d lose the ridiculously juvenile but much loved Google Playground camera feature, I’d upgrade anyway. I really love that sage green. But my 3XL is still competitive so I think I’ll skip for now.

No problem.

One thing I forgot to mention is a lot of people thought the size felt really good, which is one of my worries from someone that always uses XL models of phones.

I'll still most likely give this a go come Black Friday. With all these great upper mid range devices, its getting harder and harder to justify $1000+ phones.

I still like this phone, the light weight and the smaller size is pretty good to me. The problem is I don't wanna sell my 11 pro max cuz I know I may want to come back to it eventually.

Still setting it up properly and so far, everything seems really good. It's fluid, fps works well, screen is nice & bright enough (at least indoors, not been out in the sun). Speakers are OK for me. No, they're not great and you get far better quality on other phones. But I don't care, they do the job well enough for watching the odd YouTube video etc and I have a pair of Sony XM3s for listening to music.
No need to talk about the camera, it's a Pixel!

The size difference though from my Note 10+ is a big, big step down for someone who loves big phones. I won't say typing etc is cramped, but it's so much better (for me) on the Note.

But I want to use a Pixel for a while, there's just something about them that pulls me in. And 11 months with a Note, I'm due a change. So I'll almost certainly keep it and then buy the 4a 5G to get that little bit bigger size. Although I do love the sage colour on the 5, second fav Pixel colour after the white on the 4/4XL.

Can't have everything you want in a phone but I'm quite happy with what you get for the money this year.

I'm crap at taking pics of phones, used a flash as the lighting isn't bright in here. There's an annoying dot on the case which I didn't notice until I put it on. But I'm not going to complain for £5. I like the look of the black fabric case, but I want to see the colour for a while.

Wait a min... why go for the bigger size with the 4a 5G? I mean, that would be considered a downgrade.. right? No wireless charge, smaller battery, and only 60hz (tech enthusiast frown upon).

The battery hit will likely be minimal and still better than previous Pixel flagships. The rest I don't care about.

Either I'm blind or Google have removed hdr & hdr+ from the camera? Been through all the modes and just can't see the setting.

The OnePlus 8T clearly has the better hardware and nicer screen and bigger battery.

But the Pixel 5 has the great camera and stock Android.

Both priced very close to each other. In the perfect world I would take the 8T with the Pixel 5 software and camera.

They might have. The Pixels no longer employ a 'neural' core so maybe it's been removed as all image processing is handled by the CPU.

Are you seeing long image processing times? Dieter mentioned it in the Verge review.

S20 FE has both beat in terms of hardware IMO.

I'm seeing a lot of reviews mentioning that Google made the Pixel 5 too close to the 4a 5G in terms of features. A lot are saying the Pixel 5 isn't worth the $200 premium over the 4a 5G.

Interesting review of both phones, similarly priced;

Is the rumor true that OnePlus will no longer use near stock Android and instead use Samsung's OS design? If so that's a deal breaker for me. OnePlus phones do look nice.

Just not $700 worth IMO ...
The Pixel 5 as others have said would have sold a ton at $550-600. The P4a 5G is a tough sell at $500. The phone should have started out at $450.

I also watched a Pixel 5 review where it mentioned that Google plans to only sell 1 million P5 in 2020 and expects to sell much more of the P4a because of the price.

Basically stock android and the camera, if it means alot to you got for the pixel 5.

I like the phone but like I said I don't think it's for social media, it's just the occasional pull out, put back in and get on with your life. More suitable for people on the go 24-7.

It's not intended to compete with the samsungs or oneplus who throw high power specs designed for multitasking, with social media addiction and people staring at their phones all day, it's for those who are active and just die hard pixel fans.

I haven't really taken many pics to test the processing times properly but after Googling, I found that hdr is automatic since the Pixel 4.

A little disappointing as I like to take several pics with the various degrees of hdr.

From a 4a perspective (with the same processor as the 5) - there is a delay processing photos. With the Pixel 4 I could snap and hit the photo thumbnail and it'd be ready. With the 4a you get a little 'processing' message bottom left and a little circle that turns whilst it completes.

It isn't a huge deal for most photos, but portrait mode and night mode does add a couple of seconds.

I think my only worry (and it isn't something I tested with my 4a yet) is whether the removal of the neural core affects social media cameras? Didn't that core do something that meant apps which use the camera didn't lose quality like every other Android?
I can't remember now.

I heard the same not sure if on video...their plans on the 5 not so high estimates...we shall see ..one thing they always get plenty conversation going on ...

can any of you please answer this question that actually have the phone is the screen truly flat like the new iPhone 12? Meaning it doesn't even have that 2.5 D slight curved edge like most phones lately? Is the Pixel 5 display flat as a board even to its edge?
