I cancelled my preorder to hold out for more real world reviews and Black Friday sales. It sounds like the BF deals are a dud.

Not surprising though when a new product is launched so close to BF.

There was mention in the comments section of that article of a deal for trading in a Pixel 2 XL, some were getting $350 off the Pixel 5 with that trade in. Several asked where they were getting it but there was no answer, does anyone here know?

Those are just the Best Buy deals. The others could follow suit or offer a great discount. We dont know yet.

I wish the Google Pixel phones got the million different cases the iPhone has available to choose from. There's some really cool iPhone 12 cases out there, and the Pixel 5 gets the lame black plastic cases.

Nova works fine with gestures
Interesting, I'll give it a try, before I got the pixel 5 I was using a Xiaomi Mi 9, and because I was using nova launcher I wasn't able to use xiaomis updated gestures aka google's gestures , I was forced to use xiaomi's older navigation gestures...

Give me $100 off at Google or better yet Amazon and I’ll buy on Black Friday.

I played with a Pixel 5 today at Best Buy and I was shocked by the small size, especially compared to the 4a 5G next to it. Has that been a disappointing or welcomed transition?

Pros:

  • Less bezel, more screen, more pocketable
  • Plastic-reinforced metal build with two-directional wireless charging
  • Much-improved display brightness over Pixel 4
  • Speakers are loud
  • Superb battery endurance
  • Pixel-only features like Hold for Me and Robo Call-screening
  • Finally, an ultra-wide camera on a Pixel

Cons:

  • Performance stifled by switch to Snapdragon 700-series
  • Recycled main camera hardware with incremental improvements to image quality
  • Limited to a single 128GB storage configuration
  • No "XL" variant this year

I have one on order, not sure why though. Will probably cancel soon, think the screen size will be just too small for me.

It's an optical illusion because of the near zero bezels. As an example I owned a Huawei Mate SE with a 5.8" screen and if I lay my phone flat on top of a iPhone 11 Pro Max they are nearly identical in size and the 11 Max Pro has a 6.5" screen.

My Nexus 6 has a 5.9" screen and dwarfs a Max Pro. I actually like the new design of the phones giving you a larger display in a smaller size. It makes them easier to operate with one hand. This morning I put in my preorder for the 4a 5G only because I should get an extra year of OS updates vs the 4a. Estimated delivery is late Nov. Now if the P4a goes on sale for $100 off the $349 asking price I may buy the P4a.

We should know by the 2nd week in Nov what the all BF deals will be.

No, it really is a small phone. I might have adjusted in the sense I find it better than when I first had it, but there's no getting away from it looking & feeling small.
And that’s the point I was trying to make. Yes it’s a small phone with a nice size screen. The P4a and P5 are good one handed phones.

The Pixel 5 has a large 6" screen, but it's near bezeless, the display takes up the whole phone, which for me a nerd has dreamed about a phone that looked like this all screen and no bezel.

Remember just a few years ago the iPhone Plus models were gigantic overall phones and they only had a 5.5 inch screen.

Or the Motorola Nexus 6, I remember when that released people were like holy cow this thing is gigantic huge screen. That had a 5.9" screen.

So 6" screen was or is considered a large display. It just looks small today because there's almost no bezels, or people are comparing it to these tablet sized phones.

While this is all true, something about the Pixel 5 makes it feel tiny. I was holding an iPhone 12 and it felt like it was much larger than the Pixel even though they are practically the exact same size. The Pixel 4a 5G felt like it dwarfed the 5.
I have also dreamed of a phone with no bezels like the Pixel 5 but for some reason the size is tripping me out. I can’t decide if it’s a good thing or bad thing. It was also just a demo I played with for a short period of time so I can imagine extended use and I wouldn’t notice any longer.

Look at this site, has three Google phones side by side, all 6" displays, and the Pixel 5 looks super small compared to the others.

Pixel 2 XL with 6" display
Nexus 6 with 5.9" display
Pixel 5 with 6" display

Seeing these three nexy to each other, the front display of the Pixel 5 is the future phone I always wanted, all screen and nothing else.

Agreed! I think majority of smartphone buyers are content driven, I know I’m definitely guilty of it. We enjoy gathering information.. whether it’s watching or reading. And what better way to gather information than looking at it on a large display.

Nice review, but I think he's wrong about the Pixel 5 Having the same chip the Pixel 4A (approx 5:10 in video).
I believe the 4A has a 730G while the 4A(5G) and Pixel 5 use the 765G.

Received my free headphones 15 days after receiving the Pixel. And already sold them for £150, making the cost of the phone even better.
To be honest that is what sold me on the pixel I paid 613 eur for it and I will try to sell the headphones for 150 eur, I'd end up paying 463 eur for it! That versus an iphone 12 128 gb for 925 eur and still havig a 60 hz screen , it sounded like an awful deal to go with the iphone!
