Yeah Samsung flagships are always announced in Jan I believe.
Thankfully my wallet gets a break as Samsung phones aren't my bag, outside of the Flip series .
Probably wise to weigh it all up then. One good thing about Samsung is they also offer great preorder deals and trade in deals too. So you could get a bargain.
At $300 off during a sale on Samsung's site, I went with and unlocked S23+.

So far no regrets other than being baffled by thier convoluted OneUI 6 release schedule. It became available outside of North America a few weeks ago.

Still hasn't appeared for my US unlocked device and there hasn't been a November security update release for OneUI 5.1 either.

There are some good deals on the S23 series at the moment, but with the S24 line up being announced in January (17th apparently) I think it's better to wait and see what they do with it.

I was tempted with ZFold5 with sale and educational discount was $1200 + tax and 10% Rakuten cash back

I'm an iPhone user since the 3GS days, however I've gotten a little disheartened with Apple over the last couple of years. It now feels like Apple are just not trying, price increases with not only iPhone but across the board even on services. I look at the competition like Samsung and Google and see more changes, more exciting things. I don't know if it's Apple that's changed or just me

I've been looking at the Pixel 8 Pro since before it was announced (via rumours) but I'm unsure. I like Samsung, even the Watch 6 is appealing and certainly appeals more than the Pixel Watch 2.

There are strong rumours and leaks that the S24 range will be announced early, in January of next year. I think I'll see what Samsung are doing and then decide to either get the Pixel 8 Pro or go with Samsung S24 Ultra. I'm a tech lover and can see the potential of most, it's more about what I'm going to get along with.
It's Apple. Most know i havent had an iPhone for years now but its not like i havent thought about getting one. I still think about getting a 13 because they still use a Sim card but everytime i do and research a little i find they are so behind Android now and i still cant customize my home screen and it will be Icon clutter. I cant do this or that, Siri still sucks, etc, etc.

Still, if i can find a smoken deal on a 13, i may get one just because i havent used one in a while. I mean its been 11 years lol....but i wont get one that needs esim. Im not doing that ever til im forced. I love i can just stick my sim card in another phone and off i go.

On the other hand i have my Pixel 8 and a Samsung tablet and though SS isn't pure Android, it has things that it does i just really like. Little things but i like it more than how Pixel does it.
Pixel keeps me around because i love the Call Screen feature.....and they are cheaper. Plus the camera features. Not sure SS does the same things there like magic eraser and such.

If the entire 24 line gets Exynos processors, I would not want to go there "flagship 1st gen". The Snapdragon Gen 2 for Galaxy in the 23+ and Ultra is quite snappy.

My thoughts exactly, however in Europe we are rumoured to be getting Snapdragon with the Ultra but Exynos for the S24 and S24 Plus. I agree tho, if Samsung put the Exynos in the Ultra it will be a no buy for me.

I use to stay in their walled garden and im still in it, however I have dipped my toe in Android a few times and now I can't ignore it. I had the S22 Ultra and loved it, I traded it in for the S23 Ultra but ended up going back to the iPhone, mainly because of the Apple Watch situation. However with the S24 Ultra I intend to get the Galaxy Watch 6 classic, keep my Apple Watch just for working out and withy Apple Fitness Plus subscription.

However in the future if there is a subscription service that's just as good, I will sell my Apple Watch and go all in on the Galaxy Watch 6. Now that WhatsApp is available on the Watch 6 and wearOS is in general, it is a BIG plus for me, especially considering it's not available for Apple's WatchOS.

The Pixel 8 Pro also seems to be a great device, the Best Take feature is awesome, something I wish I had years ago with my sisters kids and even know with my best friends kids, (kids never look at the camera when you want them too 😂). It also looks unique and that blue colour just looks gorgeous.

That would be my issue too. The Pixel 8 Pro would only cost me £899 with the Blue Light Card 10% code I've got, plus the £100 Google Play Store credit that they are offering. However Samsungs event is right around the corner and I don't want to regret it.

Even tho the £100 store credit I would put towards getting the Pixel tablet, which looks different from my iPad and more functional with the dock.

I will always have some form of foot in the door with Apple, I love Apple TV Plus and Apple Music. I just equally love the fact that I can customise the hell out of an Android phone. That's the one thing I miss about not having my S23 Ultra anymore. The app quality seems better on iPhone for some apps at least, but I also love things like having 2 apps open at once, being able to customise my device.

I really hope whatever AI software Samsung is supposedly developing is better than Bixby. Call screening through Bixby using current Samsung AI is not very good or even close to what Google is doing with the Pixel.

Everyone is on the hype train that is probably being driven in part by Qualcomm. We will see how much Samsung and other OEMS are able to actually use the AI features in the 8 gen 3. I have read so many articles about how Tensor is dead because Qualcomm has beat them in AI? Like what? If you compare the Tensor G3 to the 8 gen 2 which is the most currently available chipset on Android flagship right now it does very well. If you compare it a theoretical advantage offered by a yet to be majorly released chip to a current chip it is always going to be an unfair comparison.

I am not kidding when I say that I hope Samsung can do something good with AI and NOT put any features of the AI behind any paywall. If they get it right and make it sound more natural like Google assistant then we will have something. It will be nice to have a good alternative to Google Pixel line. It would be nice to see Samsung take AI in a different direction than Google Pixel and make it unique and fun with lots of customization.

If Samsung and Qualcomm can work together and if Samsung can get Exynos to be competitive again then they can make a custom TPU and maybe develop it with the help of Google and it can be Exynos with Tensor or something like that. The point is with close collaboration with chipmakers and OEM they can deliver a better product.

Ultimately if I were wanting the best raw performance then the s24 ultra is the obvious choice. I am not sure if they are going with a flat screen next year or not. That would be a deal breaker for me if it has a curved display again. But that is me.

But if you want the best software experience on any phone right now the Pixel 8 series is best for Android. The 8 Pro is a great phone. There will always be the next best thing.

If I were trying to make a choice it would be with the s23 ultra and the 8 Pro because there should be some good deals on the s23 ultra that make it competitive on price and what I think people don't consider is comfort.

Like, what phone is more comfortable to use for hours at a time? The s24 ultra or s23 ultra is a beast. It is a big rectangle brick and it is heavy. It is great because that rectangle shows more screen. It has an s pen and big battery. It has good speakers. All of this comes at a cost.

Now the Pixel 8 Pro is no small phone I am not going to lie. However, it does feel awfully comfortable in your hand. Every corner, every angle you touch is rounded. It is flat so it just feels more compact..

So while the s23 ultra is the better phone on paper in real world use the Pixel 8 Pro is a lot more comfortable to use in day to day life where you may be stuck using your phone for hours at a time. Repetitive gestures, holding a device a certain way, weight, all add up over the day. To get a phone that has a big screen yet feels compact and comfortable to use, has great battery life and performance is really great day to day. That and the Pixel exclusive features have really won me over to the Pixel.

I will always have a Samsung Galaxy phone. I have my issues with Samsung like every company but overall they have been good to me as a customer and as long as they make it worth my while to buy their products I will. For example the tab s9 is the best 11" tablet on the market - period iPad or not. The s23 ultra is by and far the best hardware on any Android phone available right now but the Pixel 8 Pro is still the best phone of the year IMHO

Get a Samsung Galaxy tab s9 11" if you want the best tablet experience you can get period. It has a great AMOLED screen, great loud, full of bass, speakers, 8 gen 2, fast storage. Plus an sPen included. I like iPads but you won't find any iPad with an AMOLED screen? Sure there are some apps that if you need you will only find in an iPad but for most people there is no difference in apps.

If I were you I would either wait and save up a lot of money for the pre order on the s24 ultra which might cost more than the s23 ultra since Samsung might be using Titanium so it might start at $1300 USA price and go up. Or save a bunch of money maybe buy a larger storage option for the Pixel 8 Pro and enjoy the extra cash. You might miss out on some things but not much specially when you consider feature drops on the Pixel, faster updates, etc.

If there is a December sale close to Christmas then you could buy the Pixel 8 Pro and if you don't like it you could return it and get the pre order on the s24?

The s23 plus is a great phone. The s24 plus is supposed to get a high resolution screen. I would be interested in that but I bet it will cost more next year. I think getting a good deal on the s23 plus is a better option until the sales later next year.

To me the s23 plus is the perfect size. It has a bigger screen but the design makes it feel smaller than it is which I think is really great.

Also the 8 gen 2 with 8gb ddr 5x ram is a great combination of performance and battery life. It is an overclocked version of the 8 gen 2. Plus no matter where you are you get the Qualcomm chip where as next year Exynos might be used.

Went for a walk today and tried the camera on the p8p a little bit, think this is the 5x mode that I cooked probably a little too much (just my style) in snapseed.

Also, it's definitely not a birding camera lol, but no surprise there.

I'm still considering putting the sim back into the 3a, and using the 8p8 on my second line to replace (gasp!) my Pixel 2XL (that would probably still be used as a mini tablet. Still not sure yet, but the 8 might get more use in that situation.

Flat screen will please many no doubt.
The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are both excellent smartphones that have been praised for their cameras, performance, and software. They are both considered to be among the best Android phones on the market.

From what I’ve read they seem to be baking their new AI into One UI itself. One feature i read about was where the user will be able to translate calls and messages in real time. I don’t know much about AI, but from what I’ve seen it looks cool. Pixel 8 Pro’s, Best Take uses AI, it looks shockingly good and i hope we get something similar with the S24 line up.

I think I’m going to a local phone store and try out the Pixel 8 in hand, see how it compares to my iPhone 14 Pro Max BUT also the S23 Ultra.

i was thinking that, I could test it out maybe and if I don’t like it send it back, maybe if there good Christmas deals or something. The appeal to me is stock Android, I do like Samsungs One UI but stock Android looks cleaner and I’m guessing is smoother and more customisable?

Does anyone else have this issue? I have 4 of these bumps along the top of my screen. Some people say it is a defect (while not interfering with use of the phone) and others say it is normal for OLED screens. Personally, I've never seen this before on any OLED phone. My concern is from teardowns the "bumps" appear to be pressure spots on the screen from underneath. Long term constant pressure points against the screen can't be good?

Mine does. I tried getting it replaced, but Best Buy reps said "they could not see the issue," and thus, the phone does not need replacing. I was pretty livid.

Are you going to contact Google or just accept it? I don’t think I’ll exchange mine considering this seems to be widespread from various forums. I’ll either live with it or return for refund.

This is what happened to me haha.
Although I had the 15 PM before the Pixel for a week, and I missed using it when I got the Pixel.
But then I sold the Pixel and wanted it back so picked up another one and have used that since.
Haven’t missed the iPhone but do love it when I pick it up again. Both great phones.

I’ve only just realised that i have 15GB free on my Google account. I’m such a noob, i just thought i had a Youtube account, didn’t realise that i have an actual google account.

Also noticed that Google Photo’s/Google Drive, storage is cheaper than Apple‘s iCloud. I can get 200GB for only £25 a year.

I’m guessing this all works better when connected to a Pixel phone
