Thank you.

I like Pixels but I have had numerous issues with hardware since the 3xl.

Sometimes I feel like a glutton for punishment. I had a Google Chrome tablet that a year later they discontinued. Multiple hardware issues with Multiple Pixel phones.

The odd thing is when they were Nexus the hardware was clearly not top tier but the hardware was solid??

In any event I am skipping the Pixel 9 series altogether. I am keeping the Pixel 8Pro for now as I need a back up phone. The screen is now working? It was doing this,

Now it is fine but it was doing what the pictures show for over a day? After the update and a couple reboots it seemed to resolve itself? If hardware that wouldn't be possible right? It would still happen intermittently but nothing even once since?

So for now I am avoiding repairs as I never seem to get a phone back after repair in same condition I sent. So I only do it if no other choice.

On the other hand I have had very inexpensive phones, mid range, and high end and I have rarely had hardware issues on any of them but with Google over the years I have had 4 Pixels since they released them and out of those only the Pixel 7 Pro didn't have any issues beyond a crappy modem and always overheating SOC. So a 75% failure rate or close.

With that track record it really has made me weary of buying a new Pixel and on top of that they keep raising the prices commensurate with Apple and Samsung.

So I will see how many years I can get out of the P8P which compared to the 9 I don't see any huge differences. I know there are some but mostly iterative and I am waiting for the Tensor to perform better and get a lot closer to the competition in both efficiency and performance and thermal management.

I know Google says the focus isn't benchmarks but when you use two phones side by side and you can tell a difference in performance and smoothness of the UI. So I don't care about benchmarks but I do care about speed.

In any event I am looking forward to reading people's experiences with the P9 series and I really hope it is a much better phone in hardware and performance.
I think this is a hardware issue and will come back unfortunately, but lets hope I am wrong :)

I need to set a little time aside to get some maintenance and updates run on my pro. Still having some texting hiccups. Phone itself still seems speedy mostly and battery doesn't seem too bad.

Testing my P8P. And surprise Android 15 is here!

Going to test my Pixel again for a while. I really like the hardware on my s24u but the Pixel is so comfortable and I am excited to try Pixel UI on Android 15 and see if the screen glitches again. If it does then I will have to send it back to Google.

Trying to run some probable much needed maintenance on my pro. Had a massive freeze yesterday while at work, could only pull down notification shader, press the power button but had real trouble trying to press anything on screen (meanwhile my XL 2 with a worsening broken screen seems to keep on going...).

I'm really not sure if it just locked up, or the screen on the 8 just bugged out with massive lag or what, but rather alarming. Finally get it to register the reboot button press and seemed to get it back in order. But for how long?

Thing likes to lag texting. Data just drops and needs a airplane mode or reboot to bring it back. Same song and dance for a lot of my pixels.

So at a bit of a crossroads here... I've heard side loading might be on its way out. So too root might be and ad blocking.

Hopefully the 2.66gb Android 15 update actually fixes it?

Edit:
That's if it ever installs! Shesh how long does it take? Been pushing 2 hours. About ready to reboot this thing. Just been "installing system update" and below "optimizing your device, this may take a while"

Edit 2:
Finally got it updated to Android 15 whew... Ended up just straight rebooting the device then trying to update again and actually got a progress bar then finally it processed.

Having a bit of trouble getting magisk to update, but seems previous version actually rooted it.

Really hoping this clears up some issues I've been having notably the lag and hiccups and recent freezing. 🤞

Updated mine to Android 15 earlier this week but pretty sure it said the file was 1.52 GB.
I do really like that we got private space now.
Had something similar with the App Audio Manager which was a hide type thing but not entirely apps,...just like pics and things but I do not like that it only works with the Pixel Launcher as I don't like it as much as Nova or the Microsoft launcher.

Well after a couple days with the latest update, the lag with messages still gets laggy and sputtering and needs a reboot...

Almost seems like the phone puts itself to sleep for a bit and then tried to catch back up when in use. Not sure.

Battery life does seem ok, just a little more minor drain (haven't checked the stats to see what, but that's a minor thing so far.

Seems like my 3a provided a more expected experience... I don't know. Don't seem to have the luck of the draw with pixels...

Oh wow- didn't know private space only works with Pixel Launcher.

I've been using Nova launcher for ages. It works great with Samsung Knox Secure Folder.

Got to ask about an issue. This has been happening to my P8 and my Wife said it happens to hers too. She is still in Android 14, mine is on Android 15.

Phone sitting there and all the sudden it starts playing audio from a video for about 5 to 10 seconds and stops. The video does not show just the audio.

Mine always seems to be a video clip of Howard Stern and thought it was because I was using the SXM app that day. Turned SXM on for 5 seconds today, then swiped it away.

Has this type of thing been happening to anyone else? Anyone know why or how to fix it or is aware of this issue?

Yea but it doesn't work right. Sure the app i put in private space is in there but it's also still on the page with all my apps so that does nothing for me.
Bummer- I had higher hopes and expectations for Google's Private Space implementation in Android 15.

This is where Samsung really shines imo

The app and data stored in Samsung's Secure Folder are completely independent of apps and data stored +running/accessed in the default "public/shared" space. This is most valuable for my purposes. Can't recall if Pixel sets up separate home and work profiles when O365 is installed... that is another big one for me so I can turn off Work apps completely when on vacation (and avoid having to carry personal and work mobile devices).
