only if reverting to android 14 I think, no doubt someone will pipe in saying they always do factory resets with each software update 😂
Yeah thats dumb imo but everryone has their way no matter if its in the very minority or not. I dont sweat the security updates, ill get it when i get it.

Used to hate getting them on my Pixel 7 because it took 2 hours or longer for it to complete it. That phone i think had issues and i should of exchanged it. I used it for a year.

Anyone else having this peculiar issue with their 8 Pro? If I have the phone turned off and plug in the USB-C charging cable (actually any cable), the phone turns on, kind of like an iPad if it’s powered off, it will turn on.

Where it gets really strange is if i’m charging the phone, if I select power off, it will just reboot. I don’t recall this happening in the past but I noticed it today when I was greeted with Androids infamous battery drain from 85% to 0% when the phone was powered off.

I even did a factory reset, thinking Googles find my device might have something to do with it but it still does it after a complete reset.

No. This seems like a possible hardware issue. Phone should still be under warranty. I would contact Google customer support and seek a replacement. You can get it repaired but I would personally prefer a reconditioned phone than a repaired phone. In my experience some hardware issues can persist even after a repair. Generally I have better luck with reconditioned than repaired.

As a last resort you can use the Pixel repair tool and wipe and reinstall the OS. A reset works for most issues but not all. To make sure it is NOT a hardware issue backup your phone. Then use the tool to wipe and reinstall Android. If after the restoration and you still have issues proceed to replace and if no issues persist then you are good.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info and suggestions, much appreciated. I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow with Ubreakifix who are the authorized service partner for Google. I ran the internal diagnostics for the phone and everything passed. So I am hoping they may escalate the issue to Google if they determine the Pixel 8 Pro isn't supposed to behave that way and maybe Google might gauge if others might be experiencing this problem.

I don't recall seeing this problem until I installed the Jun 5th patch. Maybe they can install a previous firmware release to see if the problem goes away?

Is there some reason why Pixel phones of the equivalent age to their Samsung opponents for example come down more in price? Are they not as well made or something?

usually more offers on pixels, and not as popular. Hardware is also a step down in my experience.
Mmmhh- Samsung has killer deals on pre-order by comparison.

Google phones upon release offer extras at a substantial discount/free that you have to sell to get close to the same level of discount as new Samsung with incentives +high competitive device trade-in value.

Otherwise, you have to wait 6+ months or longer to get a so-so deal when Google dumps excess inventory into the market. Occasionally Google offers $125 incentives which makes it somewhat more competitive. Until they switch fabs for Tensor, I'm not paying much attention (and once they do, I'm waiting until rev2+ before seriously considering it over S24+ SD3).

Yes well those of outside the US don’t get SD3 on handsets like the S24+, so it’s not so much of a clear cut case in that aspect.

Reddit comment;

Idk about you guys but last night I updated to android 15 beta 4 on my pixel 8 and to my shock the jittery scrolling problem we have had for a while has really been fixed well Im certain it has, before, apps like YouTube if I scrolled slightly faster then usual it would stutter and feel sluggish but now it's smooth, same with even reddit that's why I'm so shocked reddit near enough scrolls super smooth,

If anyone got 15 beta 4 please feel free to share what you think on this issue if you feel a smooth scrolling or if it's just a mind thing for me, my phone feels overall more smooth too

Dang it my backup pixel 6 pro has developed a charging port issue.

I always like to carry a pixel with me on trips just in case I need a spare phone, and to use the cameras.

Worth buying the pixel 8 pro as a backup, or should I get the 9 pro?

I can get some deals on the 8 pro now if I shop around, but will need to pay full price for the 9 pro since I need it in September

Hmm, I've never had a backup phone. My P8 is my only phone. If its just a backup, get the cheaper price.

Just an update on this problem. Prior to taking the phone to Ubreakifix I ran internal diagnostics and every test passed. However Ubreakifix referred me to Google support saying that it appears something caused a system board problem and will probably need to be replaced. I suspect a FW issue with the June 5th features update because everything worked fine up until that point.

Besides this quirk, the phone works fine.

Today, I chatted with Google and they had me do few things but as I suspected, none of their suggestions, solved the issues. So they told me to send in the phone for repair and they would send it back. I asked if they are going to repair the phone and send it back? They said yes, 100% and I will not be given a refurbished phone. So, i'm debating whether to live with the quirk or send it in for repair.

I would have them repair it. Then if the repair doesn't work you can have them send a refurbished unit. Just go through the process. It is designed to discourage you from doing anything but I would recommend against letting luck determine your future.

Make Google repair it and if they don't, make them replace it. Give them an opportunity to go through the motions and be persistent.

If you don't get it fixed it will bug you until you get rid of it and then someone else will have a headache.

That would be my advice for whatever it is worth.

Well today my screen died. Green lines and weird gradient patterns. Can't even use the phone. Considering how little I used it recently I am pretty upset.

Probably my last Pixel. Just too many hardware issues with every Pixel I have owned with the exception of the P7P.

Now the screen is just black.

As soon as I get it repaired I am going to sell it and the watch.

So disappointed. Samsung and Apple are much more reliable.

I may buy a cheap iPhone and keep my s24 ultra. Samsung has never let me down in terms of hardware failures. Since s4 to now with many Samsung phones over the years I have been very lucky and happy with reliability.

With Pixel's it is usually a major hardware failure within a year. I just can't spend top dollar and get unreliable hardware in a device I need to be ultra reliable.

I understand. I haveny had hardware issues with my three Pixels I've owned. Just the FP sensor in the P7.

Samsungs have been good to me too. Never owned another brand with Android other than those 2 and haven't had in iPhones since 2009 or 2010.

I'm sorry to hear of your issues. I've been lucky also with no hardware issues on any of the phones. Once you get it repaired you can also see about maybe a trade-in

It sucks because I love the software but since my Pixel 3xl I have had screen issues needing replacement. Pixel 4a was the most reliable Pixel I owned.

So maybe I will stick with a series if they continue making them.

The other thing is Tensor. I feel like lately before I had the screen failure things were just sluggish.

I don't need the fastest or most efficient processor but I expect more than what Tensor has so far delivered.

For $1k I expect no sluggish or slow browsing when scrolling.

Previous Pixels with slow QC processors and less ram performed better.

I may try again with the Pixel 10 but for now I am going to get rid of my Pixels. I expected to keep my P8P at least until the P10P came out but now I am cutting my losses. Resale value tanked so it was a bad purchase all the way around.

I will see how the replacement fairs but I don't want to deal with the same issue in 6 months.

I checked the pre order and with a trade I would have to pay $600 and the P9 pro or whatever the top line Pixel 9 is. I just feel that is too much. I could get a iPhone 14 new for $100 more and in a few months the 16 will come out and the 15 pro will be $799. To me as much as Apple software is a pain in my @ss the hardware is generally solid and the iPhones perform well for years. So I will most likely sell my P8P and watch 2 on Swappa and get around $600 and put that towards the iPhone which will make the iPhone considerably less expensive and in the end probably a better product overall.

Yeah, sorry to hear that. FYI, my advice is to call or take it to a uBreakiFixit (Google Authorized) service center. They can tell you if there's a warranty recall on those phones. I say that because last year I purchased on Ebay a mint condition barely blue P4a. The screen was dead but I could tell the phone worked when I turned it on because I could feel the haptic working. Apparently the Ebay seller had sold this phone prior to me buying it. Someone along the various purchases tried to fix it.

I took it to uBreakiFix and they told me, that there was a recall on those screens but because they could tell someone tried to repair the screen, they said it voided the Google recall service.

Well, been trying to semi daily drive my 8 pro but one major thing I've run across a few times is just lag in messages and trying to type where it seems like it almost chokes. Not sure if this is because poor reception or just because the messages app or what.

Usually I'll reboot. Think a couple updates in the pipeline also.

I really haven't daily drove a pixel device in ages, usually mostly using them as a data device and not really messaging or the like so not sure if this is standard operating for things or not.

Sorry to hear it. Google Pixel's have some legit positives over the competition... hardware quality can be great and, not so much :(

Samsung and $ony have them beat on that front, imo

Thank you.

I like Pixels but I have had numerous issues with hardware since the 3xl.

Sometimes I feel like a glutton for punishment. I had a Google Chrome tablet that a year later they discontinued. Multiple hardware issues with Multiple Pixel phones.

The odd thing is when they were Nexus the hardware was clearly not top tier but the hardware was solid??

In any event I am skipping the Pixel 9 series altogether. I am keeping the Pixel 8Pro for now as I need a back up phone. The screen is now working? It was doing this,

1000001157.jpg

1000001148.jpg

Now it is fine but it was doing what the pictures show for over a day? After the update and a couple reboots it seemed to resolve itself? If hardware that wouldn't be possible right? It would still happen intermittently but nothing even once since?

So for now I am avoiding repairs as I never seem to get a phone back after repair in same condition I sent. So I only do it if no other choice.

On the other hand I have had very inexpensive phones, mid range, and high end and I have rarely had hardware issues on any of them but with Google over the years I have had 4 Pixels since they released them and out of those only the Pixel 7 Pro didn't have any issues beyond a crappy modem and always overheating SOC. So a 75% failure rate or close.

With that track record it really has made me weary of buying a new Pixel and on top of that they keep raising the prices commensurate with Apple and Samsung.

So I will see how many years I can get out of the P8P which compared to the 9 I don't see any huge differences. I know there are some but mostly iterative and I am waiting for the Tensor to perform better and get a lot closer to the competition in both efficiency and performance and thermal management.

I know Google says the focus isn't benchmarks but when you use two phones side by side and you can tell a difference in performance and smoothness of the UI. So I don't care about benchmarks but I do care about speed.

In any event I am looking forward to reading people's experiences with the P9 series and I really hope it is a much better phone in hardware and performance.
