Damn if I could be guaranteed that they're wouldn't be QC issues, I'd pre-order on Wednesday. So tempting.
Tbf, I've yet to see any smartphone release without any QC issues... because that's just impossible to predict. I'm sure companies like Google, Samsung and Apple do their best when it comes to testing, but I think the goal should be.. the less issues the better lol.

True. I've just seen more horror stories with Pixels over the years.

Ouch, the comment section at the bottom of the site on this article. People really unhappy with the same fingerprint scanner, and sounding like same camera module, as the Pixel 7 line, and performance and battery life rumors of it being pretty much the same as the 7 Pro, just marginally slightly better. Tensor 3 maybe 15% to 20% better performer compared to the Tensor 2 in the Pixel 7's, but no word if thermals will be better or worse yet? Battery efficiency the same or better? Need to wait for real world reviews.

Hmm...this color is not what I first thought. Yes I like the matte blue looks good, but the shiny silver chrome colored camera bar is a big turnoff. If the phone is a flat matte color, make the camera bar also matte, not shiny, now it looks tacky and cheesy. Also thought the camera bar on the blue phone would have a bluish tint to it, like a chrome blue color, but it looks to be just plain shiny silver. And the sides / edges are also a shiny chrome. Ugh.

The best color alongside blue is white. I think the blue with white edges and a white matte camera bar would have looked slick. My preference so far is the matte black 8Pro.

No surprise and that's probably going to be confirmed when it launches. I don't expect any mind blowing performance from the T3 SoC.

But I like it!

The more I’m reading the more I’m just not sure on the Pixel 8 this time.
I know I’m going to end up ordering one, but I’m actually really excited to switch from my iPhone 14 to the 15 PM tomorrow.

Actually, given my Google store credit and my iPhone 14 trade in, it’s going to cost me very little so I think it might be good to just pick one up and do some camera tests and comparisons between the phones.
But for the first time in ages I’m really content with my iPhone and the 14 doesn’t even have half the great specs (and cameras) of the 15 PM.

If I do get one, I think I’m gonna go Porcelain.

I'm with you there. I think seeing the info about the fingerprint scanner kind of took me out of the running for a Pixel, and I think I'm going to activate the 15PM tomorrow. I might get an A series pixel for fun down the road though.

It’s a good shout.
The great thing with the A series is you still get a great ‘stills’ camera and that sweet pixel software. Plus it’s in a nice flat screen package ;).

I picked up the 15 PM in Apple tonight and I was a bit blown away with the display. Coming from the 14 with the bigger bezels, 60hz and the notch it really looked like a huge upgrade.

I’m going to get a Pixel 8 Pro as it could surprise me, and I’ve always loved the Pixel like, but at the moment the iPhone is catering to all my needs and then some which hasn’t been the case for years really.

The video does the new Bay blue colour more justice than the photos which look like were taken in bad lighting.

I reckon the blue looks great, going to be a tough decision between that and the black come Wednesday.
So the Pro's have a matte finish vs the 8's which have the glossy backs?

Yes. Which is the opposite of what Google did for the 7 and 6 Pixel's. Those smaller regular Pixel 6's and Pixel 7's had the matte flat finish, and the Pro's got the shiny glossy paint. This year they flipped it, but...the camera bar also gets reversed in regards to matte / flat finish vs glossy shiny.

So the Pixel 8 Pro gets a matte flat paint color, but the camera bar is shiny chrome. Where as last year the smaller Pixel 7 got a matte flat paint color AND also the camera bar was a matte dull color grey, which looked great. And the Pixel 7 Pro had a shiny glossy paint job as did the camera bar also being shiny.

My point, if they're going with a matte flat paint finish, make the friggin camera bar also matte and flat or a dull grey color, don't make it shiny polished chrome looking. Ugh.

These phones look so ugly to me.

I'm a diehard Nexus / Pixel guy, but will admit these Pixel 8 Pro's aren't looking so hot. Yes matte flat paint finish is great, but the camera bar being a shiny mirror finish = Fugly.

Man Google nailed it with the Pixel 4 line, it had matte frosted paint colors, and the frame sides /edges were all a matte flat black. The Pixel 4 line was a matte finish throughout the entire phone.

Seeing cool stuff like this the S23 Ultra can do, with apps like Good Lock and Theme Park, plus the official One UI 6 launches Oct. 5th. I'm actually thinking maybe gettnig a S23U, and wait for the Pixel 8 Pro deals around Black Friday, especially if the 8 Pro launches @ $1,000+ for the 128GB version per rumors.

After hearing about the fingerprint sensor and the Tensor G3, also some looking into the battery life on Pixels not being all that great. I might just wait to see what the Samsung S24 Ultra has to offer. I will still watch the Google event on Wednesday and may still decide to try one out.

Samsungs are very features rich, the S23 Ultra has great batter life also. Samsung Ultra range is very much worth a try although with the S24 range around the corner so I’m not sure its worth it right now.

Android phones as a whole look a mess to me.

I miss the htc and Sony era

The Pixel 4XL was probably the best looking Pixel. I liked the all matte look. I do like the matte back of the 8 Pro, Google likely kept the chrome look in to make it stand out as a contrast to the matte. I think it looks great, possibly better in black than the blue but I need to see more hands-on.

I've been rocking a 15 Pro Max and whilst it's been absolutely stella in all areas, particularly display, video quality, photos & weight, I'm already bored of the look. Along with a lot of Android phones, there isn't enough new design with current iPhones, this definitely needs to change. I prefer something that's a bit alternative from the usual look and the Pixel line up is different.

I am waiting impatiently for flagship cameras & specs to reach the folds in the west.

Agreed. IMO, Pixel 4 was peak Pixel design. Loved both the Panda and Orange colors, the matte rails and colored sleep button. I know the front look wasn’t everyone’s favorite because of the giant notch to accommodate Soli but the functionality was worth the ‘bucket’ up top.

The last few generations are not great looking but they certainly are unique. And again, while not a great look, the full camera bar makes a phone that doesn’t teeter or wobble.

Ugh. Not happy to read this;

https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/16y53wd

The last leaks for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro start to clearly show where and by how much Google has been cheapening it out this year. There are always a few things they cut corners on every year, but this year seems like a lot. To name the obvious:

  1. No upgrade to the main camera sensor, still GN1, no GN2.
  2. No ultrasonic fingerprint reader
  3. No UFS 4.0
  4. No base size upgrade
  5. No modem upgrade either
  6. Tensor G3 barely as good as last year's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (hopefully more efficient? not sure.). And "last year" is being generous as a new one's coming out soon for the upcoming year.
