Google Pixel 9 Series (9/9 Pro/9 Pro XL/9 Pro Fold)

I did a quick test with ultra HDR on and ultra HDR off. I remembered @Aneres11 mentioning to turn it off. First pic is ultra HDR on. Seconds looks much better and less muted to me. So I'll be leaving it off. These are both with very dim indoor lighting.

Wow! Your pics prove the point very well! Ultra HDR just saps all the colour out. Sure, it may be good to edit after the shots taken maybe, but who wants to do that?!
The second pic looks so much better. Cute kitty too 😍

So I have a 15PM and I’m either going to the 16P or the Pixel 9 Pro. My concern is the rest of the Apple ecosystem in my house: IPP M4, Mac mini and M2 MacBook Air. Can I get the Puxel to play nicely?

Having had similar thoughts many (too many name) times, I suggest both. Use the 16P as your daily and keep a Pixel to mess around on or use on a 2nd line.

It’s a grand. I don’t mind spending a grand on my phone but another grand on a spare I’m afraid I draw the line at.

Probably not. If Samsung decides to follow Apple's lead with the S25 models this Winter/Spring, I'd wager Google does the same next year.

I get why us chronic phone swappers find eSims to be a bit of a pain in the back side but for normal people, it really is a non-issue. Most carriers, at least in the West support them. Most people I encounter in my day-to-day had no idea what a physical SIM card was in the first place. Every 2-4 years, they'd buy their phone at a carrier store or an Apple Store who'd handle the entire activation process for them.

It saves Apple a few more pennies, and becomes a bit of a factor for folks who like to look around at different phones. A more profitable walled garden.

I’m not sure about that. Google tends to be a little slow about changes. I would expect a survey first. That would be an indication they are considering a move in that direction. For me, I would no longer buy a phone that is eSIM only. I like to swap phones regularly and my carrier which is Mint Mobile charges a $5 fee for each eSIM after the 2nd swap. It is the reason why I purchased an iPhone 13 because it was the last iPhone with a SIM tray.

I have yet to find a better deal than Mint Mobile $15 per month with 5GB of data/hotspot.

So question to the crew. For someone who is still SUPER happy with the 8 Pro, is the upgrade worth it? I honestly like the classic Geordi Laforge Visor™ look better than the new oval shaped camera bump on the 9.

Specifications alone are not pushing me into the phone, but Google's resale value on my current phone is actually tempting. I can also move down in size which is a good move for me, as I am not ultra into super large phones.

Thoughts?

This is the best phone Google has made and if you thinking of going 9 Pro it’s a slam dunk for keeping your size down. Are you getting good value for the 8 Pro trade in or sale ?

If you are SUPER happy with the 8 Pro, my advice is to keep it. Yes the 9 Pro is a better phone but slightly. I also have an 8 Pro and it is the reason why I plan on sending my 9 Pro XL back to Google. The performance is not that big of a jump for me. You also missed out on the $200 Google store credit.

The money saved for this scenario isn't even a rounding error on Apple's balance sheet. Same goes for the profit made from prolific phone switchers.

Well, I'd get ready for that change sooner than later. Apple's greased the skids, so to speak for other OEMs to follow suit and Samsung is your canary in the coal mine. They switch and Google will likely follow within a generation or two. You'll be limited to importing Chinese OEMs at that point.

So, I'm still probably picking up a pixel 9 pro XL to go alongside my iPhone, but not sure which one will get my main line.(First world problems) I know the pixel has the sim card slot, but the iPhone only does eSim, how easy would it be to swap the main line between the two?

I had the 8 Pro briefly when it first came out and now have the 9 non Pro (for now) and I personally think it's a worthy upgrade, especially considering the very generous trade in prices.

I'm getting £228 for a Pixel 5 that barely lasts an hour battery wise. I'd have never got that for it anywhere else.
