This will be my second attempt to leave iOS. I tried the Flip3 but battery and camera weren’t great so got the 13 pro max that I’m still using and will trade in with Google if I like and keep the fold. I’ve been on iPhone since 3G but the last few upgrade seasons show I’m looking for something different - 2021 tried Flip3; 2022 returned 14 pro max to stick on 13(upgrade nearly every year); 2023 preorder GPFold
From what I have seen and my experience is that people who have had iPhones a long time or even started using mobile devices using an iPhone tend to stick with iphone. They may try Android every so often but something always brings them back.
I have seen so many people "try" but never actually commit. Just in my humble opinion you need to give it a minimum of 6 months. In six months you will have figured out any blocks to using Android coming from iOS. You will have some experience with how everything works over time. At that point you can have a better idea.
I used Android phones since Android donut or 2. Something. I never even had an interest in iPhone. Then Android update support and fragmentation was awful. Android phones had kind of stalled. So I didn't want to spend top dollar on a phone that only got two years of updates and 3 of security patches. I felt like I was just throwing money away so I got an iPhone 11 Pro Max cheap after searching for a while.
I got rid of actually sold my Android phones and only used the iPhone and at first it was a learning curve. Eventually I got used to it. There were some things I didn't like and still big me to this day but overall I really enjoyed the new experience. The iphone 11 Pro Max was my only phone for a year. Then I got a promotional free Galaxy FE as a back up phone but rarely used it. I skipped the 12 and got the 13 Pro max after that. I used that for a year. Then after some issues with my locked phone, iOS 16, and super expensive and not much of an upgrade on the iPhone 14 Pro Max plus a loss of the sim card I decided to switch back to Android.
I think the problem a lot of people run into switching between mobile OS is they want to just dip their feet in the water and if it isn't exactly the right temperature they immediately jump back out. In order to really get a feel of the software and hardware you need to completely jump in and submerse yourself. Then after 6 months to a year you will really understand an OS. Then you can get an iPhone and use it as a back up phone or Primary. A lot of people like to use both OS. But I think at first you need to just use the new OS without distractions.
I think if you are coming from iOS it is best to try a Pixel to get used to Android as Pixel UI is the most similar to iOS. Also Pixel AI and cameras are the best so there are features that you didn't have in iOS with a Pixel.
If I were you I would keep that iPhone 13 Pro Max as long as you can. It was one of my all time favorite phones and I miss it. I am waiting to see what Apple delivers with the iPhone 15 but I am really upset how they have delineated the line and have two different chips. I might want to get a iPhone 15 max instead of Pro Max but they give it a year old chip, old design, poor camera's. And Pro Max is supposed to be 20% more this year. It was already very expensive with barely any good discounts or promotions. So I don't know.
The Google Pixel Fold looks really good. I like the design. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and it is really a great phone and UI.
I hope it is the one that does it for you. Just try to stop using your iPhone and give yourself a few months on the Pixel only. It is going to be a little difficult at first but eventually you figure everything out.
Of course there is nothing at all wrong with sticking with an iPhone. I don't care about OS wars and people picking and choosing only one side. I personally like both but tend to favor Android. But I will never stop completely using iPhones. I may take a break just like I did with Android but I will be back. Plus I have an iPad so I still sort of have iOS. Lol
