This seems illegal. Isn't there a law that carriers have to unlocked the phone after it's paid off? Or are the bill credits for 3 years?
Yes but it used to be that you could sell the phone to anyone it was just locked to ATT. Now they won’t even let you do that. To be clear I have no problem paying for the phone. That isn’t the issue. The issue is ATT is restricting what I can do with it until it’s paid for. That would be fine but they tie the bill credits to 36 months. At least before you could sell the device and just keep paying it off but now they’ve taken that away. At this point I may just wait for the one plus.

I've never liked deals that give credit over time or try to keep you paying for a long time. They are always too good to be true. I personally like to own my stuff and pay upfront day one, I'll gladly pay double
Here’s the thing. Att is giving me 1000 off to remain a customer for 3 years. Which I’m going to do anyway. But now the policy makes me keep the phone for 3 years because they doll out the $1000 over 36 months in bill credits. I’m willing to honor my end of the the deal of keeping service on the line for 36 months. I should be able to do what I please with the phone however. This is a pretty significant change in att policy.

Ok. I get it. Yeah, still seems lame on ATT's part.

Y'all replacing the outer screen protector with a tempered glass one or keeping it as is for now?

Well, the ATT deal was too good to be true. Apparently ATT has a new policy that prohibits use of the phone on any ATT account other than the one linked to the upgrade. That means it really can’t be sold or traded anymore since it’s locked to my account (as opposed to just ATT). That’s a deal breaker for me. It basically makes the phone worthless and I won’t be keeping any phone for 3 years. Even at $900 that’s a deal with the devil im not making. Probably be leaving ATT as well over this but that’s a different discussion. I’m surprised this new ATT policy has not been met with more uproar.
I'm very confused by what you are stating here. Isn't every phone locked to the user until it's paid off?

You can do AT&T Next and upgrade after 18 months with this deal.

If you don't plan on switching carriers and you don't need to switch to a pricier plan to get the deal, then it makes sense for many to take advantage of carrier offers.

No historically ATT installment phones have been locked to the ATT network not the users account. The change is to lock it to the account so no one else can use the phone.

Yes but now the proposition is worse because the phone is basically worthless. Because you have to keep it for 36 months to get the bill credits. What do you think a 3 year old pixel fold will sell for? $400?

I mean honestly I've never had any desire to sell a phone I was still paying off.

Then just get Next and you can trade it in after 18 months and get a better foldable.

I don't see the value in phones if they don't last me at least 2 years or more. I upgrade every couple of generations, not every year lol

Well, there was the year the iPhone was rejecting all iPhone Upgrade Program users using the Apple Card on order day, which was worse.

Oh really? I've never encountered an issue with an iPhone upgrade but I guess they all have their flaws and oops moments.. lol

At first I was questioning myself if I didn't read something correctly or maybe they didn't give me enough credit for the phone but that wasn't the case...

From what I have seen and my experience is that people who have had iPhones a long time or even started using mobile devices using an iPhone tend to stick with iphone. They may try Android every so often but something always brings them back.

I have seen so many people "try" but never actually commit. Just in my humble opinion you need to give it a minimum of 6 months. In six months you will have figured out any blocks to using Android coming from iOS. You will have some experience with how everything works over time. At that point you can have a better idea.

I used Android phones since Android donut or 2. Something. I never even had an interest in iPhone. Then Android update support and fragmentation was awful. Android phones had kind of stalled. So I didn't want to spend top dollar on a phone that only got two years of updates and 3 of security patches. I felt like I was just throwing money away so I got an iPhone 11 Pro Max cheap after searching for a while.

I got rid of actually sold my Android phones and only used the iPhone and at first it was a learning curve. Eventually I got used to it. There were some things I didn't like and still big me to this day but overall I really enjoyed the new experience. The iphone 11 Pro Max was my only phone for a year. Then I got a promotional free Galaxy FE as a back up phone but rarely used it. I skipped the 12 and got the 13 Pro max after that. I used that for a year. Then after some issues with my locked phone, iOS 16, and super expensive and not much of an upgrade on the iPhone 14 Pro Max plus a loss of the sim card I decided to switch back to Android.

I think the problem a lot of people run into switching between mobile OS is they want to just dip their feet in the water and if it isn't exactly the right temperature they immediately jump back out. In order to really get a feel of the software and hardware you need to completely jump in and submerse yourself. Then after 6 months to a year you will really understand an OS. Then you can get an iPhone and use it as a back up phone or Primary. A lot of people like to use both OS. But I think at first you need to just use the new OS without distractions.

I think if you are coming from iOS it is best to try a Pixel to get used to Android as Pixel UI is the most similar to iOS. Also Pixel AI and cameras are the best so there are features that you didn't have in iOS with a Pixel.

If I were you I would keep that iPhone 13 Pro Max as long as you can. It was one of my all time favorite phones and I miss it. I am waiting to see what Apple delivers with the iPhone 15 but I am really upset how they have delineated the line and have two different chips. I might want to get a iPhone 15 max instead of Pro Max but they give it a year old chip, old design, poor camera's. And Pro Max is supposed to be 20% more this year. It was already very expensive with barely any good discounts or promotions. So I don't know.

The Google Pixel Fold looks really good. I like the design. I have a Pixel 7 Pro and it is really a great phone and UI.

I hope it is the one that does it for you. Just try to stop using your iPhone and give yourself a few months on the Pixel only. It is going to be a little difficult at first but eventually you figure everything out.

Of course there is nothing at all wrong with sticking with an iPhone. I don't care about OS wars and people picking and choosing only one side. I personally like both but tend to favor Android. But I will never stop completely using iPhones. I may take a break just like I did with Android but I will be back. Plus I have an iPad so I still sort of have iOS. Lol
Well said. I just very quickly and very chaotically tried to turn over completely from iOS to Android and despite using both for years, ditching one and going straight to the other is a different animal. And animal which quickly bit me in the butt during a very hectic time.

Moving along…looks like some folks are getting hints of movement on their orders? Let’s hope! I can’t wait for you all to get these phones in your eager hands!
