Think depends what you do With the device I guess. I’d you like using it on front display that’s where pixel is better but other uses cases with it open would be better on fold. Do like what Pixel has done with it for a first attempt.

I use both folded and unfolded plenty and close to evenly so definitely for me just enjoy it more than previous Fold 3...I don't need more than two apps while multitasking and Spen usage is not enough to sway me ..

I watched a YT clip on the Waveform podcast and it discusses this... Samsung's method versus Google. Whereas one encourages you to use the inner display and the other prefers you to stay on the outer display.

And one of the guys brought up an interesting question... why pay the premium for a foldable only to use the inner display sparingly? Wouldn't that then make Samsung's approach better? In additon to that, Google doesn't offer an option to have apps fill the entire screen.

Yeah that’s the thing, while I would like a wider display that main display is why you buy a foldable. The Samsung display and features is really unmatched on a foldable

I find the reach some people have to make the Samsung fold series seem better than the PF amusing. Just enjoy what you like 😅.
I don’t have a problem with those who choose Pixel Fold over the Z Fold. I’ve stated it before… I’m rooting for the Pixel Fold because it would bring better 3rd party support particular for tablet apps.

It’s the criticism people raise over the narrow outer display... which brings into question the motivation behind why Samsung chooses it. I didn’t bring up the discussion to determine which one is better, but the approach Samsung and Google has with their design choices.

Tbh I hated stretched apps like Instagram in my Samsung fold ...it just didn't look good IMO ...I like Google's approach though I'm not patient and I would like them to give users options till they are ready ...

I don’t understand why Instagram doesn’t just use their web design for Android tablet/iPadOS app. I’m sure with Meta’s resources they can do that within 3 to 6 months.

It’s the argument of the narrow display means people will open the phone which has a much better inner display for me that I find amusing.
It’s a reach in my opinion because when Samsung eventually get it right and it has a wider outer display everyone will realise it’s much better.

You only need to look at how many people have had Samsung foldables and returned them or moved on due to the outer display being a pain. I just don’t buy that it’s a conscious decision to promote usage of the inner display. There’s plenty of scenarios where an outer display is useful and not one at this size as just sending quick messages from it when I had a Fold 2 was a joke. Anyway, competition is good at the end of the day.

I always hear the argument if you use a foldable why do you use the front screen you might as well get a slab or why you use the flip phone when you have to open it all the time you might as well get a regular phone... No no one it's for portability and two having a great option to open up when you want in certain situations.. I feel like a lot of times people that never use foldables are the ones to say it... I'm not talking about us here obviously since we all have experienced all different phones

Don’t see the issue, just friendly discussing the two foldables which most people can buy

Pixel fold being released I think is the best thing that could happen to Samsungs foldables. No doubt the front display will be wide next year and pixel fold likely plays a factor in this

I tested my code from Google and it seems to work so that’s sorted. Now to just try and keep my volume key from popping out before trading in 😬. It keeps coming loose and you can bet they’ll knock the value down if I trade in with no button 🥲.

Yeah I hate that argument. I convinced three friends/coworkers to get a Z Fold4 and while they all loved the inner display they did not want to have to open the device every time they wanted to send a quick message or email. All of them ended up returning and going with a slab phone. I'm in the same line of thinking at this point. I love having the larger inside screen when I want or need to use it but to hammer out a quick email or text, quick browsing social media or internet, or taking a quick picture, I prefer the outer screen. Watching video, remoting to my pc, excel, viewing email attachments, multitasking, longer term internet browsing, editing docs, etc., I prefer the inside screen. I don't want to be forced to choose. I want the convenience to use whichever I want whenever I need.

And this is why you can't really go by SOT because today I've been on the phone and work related calls for maybe a little under 4 hours

One easy user case for those that need reading glasses, it's easier to open to the inner screen and squint than finding your glasses at times, where to read the front screen even on the GF is likely compulsory to put glasses on.

Part of the luxury of using the inner screen is the message preview pane, ie msg's on the left and preview on the right ala outlook style

Agree.. I had the GF (1st one) for about a month and sold it. I then wanted to try again and got the GF 3. It's lasted about a month and a half before it was sold. The cover display on them is unusable for just about everything and was the reason they were sold...

I have no interest in being in tablet mode most of the time and that is what the GF line forces you to do. I want tablet mode for multitasking, watching media or playing a game.

You have both phones in hand? I had the GF and the GF 3 and have to strongly disagree that the Pixel Fold feels like a Galaxy Fold 2. As a matter of fact, it's not even close. The PF destroys the GF 3 I had never mind the GF2 (never had)..

I'll go play with a GF5 once they are in store but I highly doubt it's going to be anywhere even close to what you just described.

Yes, I have both currently (got the fold 3 at launch and will be sending it as my trade in soon) and I had the Fold 2 for a year before I traded that in for the fold 3. The only thing better about the pixels build that is better than the galaxy is that it has no gap when folded and is thinner. Everything else (when it comes to build quality and fit and finish) is better on the galaxy.

So instead of just saying it's better please describe how it's better because I am not seeing this. Both have very good build quality and neither has a hand up in that department.

I played with a GF5 in Best Buy yesterday for about 20 minutes and I honestly don't understand your claim after having held both in hand. Sure my time with the GF5 was limited to about 20 minutes but that was enough time for me to decide.

Claiming that one has better fit, finish and build quality is an absolute head scratcher so please describe how you think this is factual... Thanks!

It's hard to describe because it is a "feel" thing but I'll try. The way the hinge springs it open and it snaps when you open it, the way it snaps when closed, the material on the inside bezel, the transition from the inside bezel to the inside screen is smoother while the pixels is sharp. The flat sides. When open the pixel has a little more of a flex while the galaxy is firm. The fact that the galaxy actually opens completely flat. The grade of the aluminum, the camera bar is soooo easily scratched. The crease is more visible because it doesnt open completely flat.

The Pixel isnt bad, I love the device, but the fit and finish is not on the same level as Samasung.

Odd.....

1. Snaps when open and closed? I didn't notice anything that stood out
2. Unless someone is allergic to bezels , it's a non point and the Pixel bezel actually proves useful when in tablet mode.
3. When open flex? Pixel has more flex and GF more firm? Sorry, not something I noticed.
4. My Pixel Fold opens flat so I am not sure what you are talking about here.
5. Crease more visible? On the Galaxy Fold 5 I played with? Yes it was slightly more noticeable on the Fold 5 .. But you are claiming the opposite.
6. I've had my PF since launch and run it caseless. Not a single scratch on the camera bump. Could it be an issue? Time will tell.

I have to go back to Best Buy today as the cable I went there to buy is to short so I need to exchange it for a longer one. I'll test your responses out even more while there..

I honestly didn't notice much of anything that you just posted. Smoother transition between bezels on the inner screen? Sure, I'll give you that. Not sure what you mean by the flat side though.

I agree. These are all issues that are foreign to me. Even the reviewers who didn't give overly positive reviews of the pixel fold mostly raved about the fit and finish and even said the crease was somewhat less noticeable than the ZF4. My Pixel opens flat too, I'm not sure where everyone is saying it doesn't. You might have to give it a little extra push, but it gets there and it is also solid in Flex Mode. Not a single scratch on my camera bump or the outer aluminum trim and I had my device on the beach for several days in Destin. The only legitimate area where the fit and finish is better is the bezels. I don't mind having them but they are kind of soft and the transition between bezel and screen isn't the best. These do scratch and dent easily when a piece of dirt gets closed inside as does the screen but that can happen on any "thin glass foldable" that folds completely flat.
