I've been dealing with a lot of tall phones, I find this perfect, I honestly don't think we need it any taller
That is the thing I think a lot of people on forums do not get to be honest. What is perfect for you...might not be perfect for me...and the other way around. Then this is the beauty of the Android space. There are companies that make different shapes and featured phones for the Android OS :)

1. With the Galaxy, the last couple of degrees when opening the device, it springs open and snaps into place, the pixel you have to push it the full way through.
2. Never said anything about the size of the bezels, I said the feel of the bezels. The plastic they used and the finish is harder and shinier than that of the galaxy. My galaxy fold is 2 years old and you can’t see any scratches, though I can feel them if I run my nail through it. The pixel also has a hard sharp edge between the bezel and screen.

3. Because the Pixel doesn’t open all the way, there is a little flex at the end, you can see in Jerry Rig Everything video where he tests the durability. It’s not wobbly or anything, but definitely not as sturdy as the galaxy.
4. See my pictures, it doesn’t open flat. You can even see like 90% of youtube videos mentioning this. Congrats if it’s something you don’t notice.

5. I said it’s more noticeable because it doesn’t fully open, again see my pictures.

6. Again, I’m not the only one talking about how scratch prone the aluminum finish is, plenty of YouTubers mention it too in their reviews. Again, congrats if you don’t see it.

And this is all comparing to my Galaxy Fold 3, I’ve only played with the 5 briefly at Best Buy. This is also the last time I will address this, I’m not going to sit here and argue about the fit and finish of the 1st gen pixel compared to that of a galaxy that is now on version 5. Plus I do love this device and I don’t want its negatives to be my main focus, but you are making it my focus. Congratulations to you that you don’t notice these flaws, but they do exist.

Edit: well crap, looks like I’ll be going to Verizon tomorrow, screen has a light bar running down it.

1. That's a design choice and NOT a build quality issue. Google wants the device to stay put in any location.
2. In your photos you actually make the case for the Pixel to be better. Your GF looks terrible in that image
3. You have a defective device if that is as flat as your PF folds out. Or you damaged it or it's intentionally set that way for photo op.
4. Same response as 3.
5. Same response as 3.
6. YouTubers? LOL
Edit: Sorry for the damage to you GF but there goes that whole stellar build quality argument out the window eh?

We've now reached the absurdly laughable point where people are claiming the Galaxy Fold 3 (never mind the 5) has better build quality and destroys the Pixel Fold.

I played with the GF 5 again in Best Buy against yesterday and I have the same response as my original thoughts. I don't see a single thing you are claiming.

I had the GF (1st one) and the GF 3 so I know how the build quality on them was. I never touched a GF4 but have now spent about 40 minutes with a GF5. I've had the PF since launch.

The claims that the GF destroys the PF in build quality are absolutely laughable.

But wait, now we've reached insanity with claims that a GF 3 is better...

I agree.. I like the PF size exactly as it is. As far as design I would not change a thing about.

Maybe thinner bezels when in tablet mode. They don't bother me, or most people who actually have the device but some people love to trash the device because of them.

Google needs to work on the Software front a bit and get developers onboard with making apps for foldables. Allow for pinning 2 apps together for easy access when multitasking and a few other software areas.

Overall I am very happy with the Pixel Fold. Having said that, I'd jump ship back to Samsung if they change the design next year to shorter and wider. I prefer Samsung UI over that of stock Google..

The part where the Pixel wins me is voice dictation and call screening and all those smart AI stuff lol If I could just mash it together with a Samsung phone haha

Those are nice features and I do use them. I also really like Magic Eraser and use that every so often as well. I've mainly been a Samsung user (S series and 3 different foldable/flip) and just prefer their UI over Google's stock UI.

In all honesty this is what makes the Pixel phones special. The Google Assistant integration sets this phone apart if you actually use it. The call screening. The phone dialer having Google search built in and pulling up businesses. Identifying and telling you on the lock screen what song is playing wherever you might be. To me the Pixel line puts the "smart" in smartphones. There's definitely better hardware on the Samsung side. The S23U still takes the top spot for me there. But I just really enjoy using the Pixel phones even with slightly less battery life and a SOC that is not up to par with the market leading Snapdragon or Apple chips. I'm going to try with all my might to resist the Pixel 8 Pro and upcoming S24 Ultra and stick with my Pixel Fold/S23U/14 PM lineup until the Pixel Fold 2 releases next year. Really happy with the Pixel Fold as my daily right now.

Yup understand...I have Google One so all those photo edits follow me on all the phones ... I've had Samsung phones back to the Note 2 ...and Google Nexus days...

S23U top dog IMO too ...I do miss that phone ...I'm always on work calls and heavy usage with AI stuff daily so can appreciate it with Pixel phones ...

Had to go to Verizon today for my parents and finally got to use the GPF and GF5 back to back. I love the build quality of the GPF and I think the cover screen size is nearly perfect. But I'm not a fan of the inner screen. I find it too short and the screen looks far less vibrant/bright compared to the GF5. I think a wider cover screen for a future GF would be the perfect foldable size.

Anytime you put a pixel phone next to a Samsung you will always see the brightness of the screen look different that's why I never do that lol

Not really one for this thread I guess, but no where else for it.
Just had an email from YouTube to say YT Premium is going up from £11.99 a month, to £12.99 from September. I’ve cancelled on the spot.
I’ve had YT Premium for years and always found £11.99 a push, especially when I don’t use YT Music. If I did, I think I’d stomach the cost and the increase but there’s absolutely no reason for them to put prices up. Google being greedy is just not it.

Yup I got an email from them on July 20th ..I'm currently paying $9.99..I think it's cheaper to pay yearly but I'm still not happy .

As a long-standing and valued member, you are currently paying a lower rate for Premium than the rate available to new subscribers. To show our appreciation for your loyalty, we're giving you at least three extra months at your current price before the price increase will impact your plan. Your price will not increase before your December billing date. Don’t worry, we’ll be sure to notify you again at least 30 days before the new price is effective.

I’ve moved to Apple Music as the quality is better than Spotify, plus it pays artists more (so I read?).
I dont love Apple Music, but it does the trick. I prefer Spotify’s interface and LOVE the year in review at the end of the year, which I will miss.

Anyway, back to Fold chat! Still not sure what to do, the phone isn’t ‘out’ until 22nd Aug here so I have time to decide and change my mind daily. ;)

Yeah, I can understand the sentiment but it’s a pretty good value in comparison to the competition considering you are getting a full music service AND the benefits of YouTube premium…if you use YouTube Music. Apple Music on it’s own costs £10.99. Definitely a tougher pill to swallow if you don’t use YT Music.

I actually pay the family plan price of $22.99—my wife and three kids use YouTube Music. I have Apple Music for myself (paid for by my employer) but I’d still pay for Premium even if we didn’t use YT Music as we all spend more time on YouTube than any other video streaming service. I could never handle YouTube with Ads (yes I know there are other ad blocking options) but the simplicity of the service is worth it.

There’s a price where it’ll be too expensive in my eyes…just haven’t gotten there yet. ;)

I know full well I will go crawling back :p. Techtember and Techtober are approaching after all, so there will be lots of YT content to watch and I will get frustrated with the ads!

I’ve tried YT Music but I just don’t love it. Like you say, it’s actually decent value if you do utilise that service too. Maybe I’ll try it vs Apple Music this week. It may have improved since I last gave it a shot.

Time to get yourself a VPN and find residence in Mumbai or Buenos Aires. Been paying between £1.80/£2 for the last 4 years for YTP.

In terms of YouTube Music-it’s a low key great service, if only for the ability to upload your own music.

I use it alongside Apple Music as I get lossless and the ATV integration. It’s a good pair imo.

I’ve only been having to endure ads for about 2 weeks but I’m losing my mind. All these stupid factor ads, I’ve made 7000 in the last three hours and what’s happening behind me in this building will change everything
