It's hard to tell from a picture, but the nicks look pretty small to me and if everything else is perfect (and it may take a few days or more to make that determination), I would keep it. If those are the only marks on your computer 3 years down the road, I don't think that will have any effect on resale. I understand your frustration with finding any flaw on your 4th computer however.

I'd say keep it! At least there's no scratches that you can see easily. You're allowed to change the specs for a replacement?

Thinking of ordering the moshi hard case as well, had it on my old MacBook and it kept it in pristine condition. I'm actually waiting for my replacement and my return was compeleted today. For some odd reason, it's showing ships in 1-2 weeks instead of 5-7 business days on the order page. I remember replacements are bumped up to the top, but let's hope it comes in earlier.

I think those are almost impossible to see and you should feel pretty good at this point. I hear you on the note about a potential resale, but really if everything else about the computer is in good shape I can't see a reasonable person making a big deal about that. You'll probably get bigger marks from putting it down on a table.
[doublepost=1484970788][/doublepost]

If you're within the return period it's an exchange for an upgraded model. I did it - just paid the difference between the two models.

thanks for your input guys.

if you guys dont think it would do much for resale them i may suck it up and keep it. i think i could prob find any blemish on any mass produced product, including apple , but i think the price of these macbooks is making me expect perfection for the cost....

at ronald: well basically i placed an entirely new order in order to do that. order was placed start of this month and its the 20th...so i guess it may have been prioritized?

also i found another nick.....LOL....well not really funny ...pic attached.

i considered....but feel reallybad for some reason, asking for a 4th replacement, and then when that arrives, if its bettr i keep it, if not, iil return the 4th replacement and keep the one i hve and suck it up lol

ugh...first world problems...but we pay for these

I Guys. I am struggling with this thread.

Either a fault in manufacturing or handling is systematic and it should be present in all / most systems delivered and there would be massive complaints or ...

It is a random fault in which the likelihood of it occurring in multiple deliveries is extremely low?

I would definitely keep this one, if I were you. Such minor and almost invisible nicks won't impact resale value in my opinion. The big scratches you had, that's a different story - but these ones I could definitely live with.

Man talk about abusing the return system. I have blemishes on my MacBook as well. You're being way too anal and unreasonable. Find another company.

You're trying to justify your constant swaps because you paid a certain amount. If you look hard enough, most manufactured products will have defects. You're taking it too far.

so no matter how many macbooks one goes through, theres always going to be some sort of nick like that?

No matter how many swaps you do you will always find something. Whether it's a loose hinge, uneven screen, rough edges on the aluminum, fine line scratches that only show in certain light, mushy keys, loud keys, whatever. If a person chooses to be anal and actively search for it like you're doing. You'll always find a problem.

Btw I spit my coffee out when you posted about the two nicks as I couldn't even see it. That's not a first world problem, that's a nonexistent problem.

got my replacement which has no scratch beneath the speaker grille.
But it has a ton of scratches above the touchbar. Like micro scratches, almost a brushed aluminum look.
Only visible in a certain light, so I'm not going to replace it again.

I had some thoughts of returning the MacBook Pro but it could be possible that I receive a new one that is worse. So I don't know what to do. I will send you a picture tomorrow!

I don't believe that to be the case. I've had plenty of Apple devices and electronics by other manufacturers and none came with nicks or scratches out of the box. Some people don't care about nicks and scratches and that's fine, but if you are bothered enough by nicks on your new computer to exchange it, that is your decision.

im thinking back and my 2 other macbook pro 2016 had some sort of nick...but never like this. that beinsg said no scratch is much prefered .

yeah thats what im thinking. i thought about asking for a 4th replacement and let that one come and comapre the 2 and pick which one im happy with. basically if the 4th one is a dud. then iil keep this one and move on.

Yes and I really wouldn't be happy with any nick or scratch on a new computer. I think after several exchanges though I might be willing to accept small nicks if everything else was ok (I'd have to see your computer in person to know if I could live with those nicks). I returned the first two computers I got because of uneven screens and kept the third. The computer I kept doesn't have a perfectly even screen but the problem is minimal and the screen is much better than the first two and I'm satisfied with it. My computer is perfect otherwise and looking at many threads on this forum I see there are a lot worse problems than a slightly uneven screen or small nick so I feel I am lucky to have the one I do. As I said before though, you are the only one who can decide if the nicks are going to bother you enough to go through the trouble of another exchange.

One thing you might consider if going for another try is to get silver instead of space gray. I think any small imperfection will show up much more on the dark space gray color and would be hardly noticeable if at all on the silver.

Fantastic! Apple and Fedex delivered my new 15" BTO MBP before Christmas. Glad to report this replacement has no scuff marks/scratches and retains a perfect finish. Now, I will test the Radeon 460 and battery life. I put an iBlason hardshell plastic case on it for protection.

I've tried the iBlason case, it is great, looks very nice, but it is TOO HEAVY, it will add another pound to the laptop, I think it is too much,I have to find something lighter

thanks for your detailed input my friend! much appreciated!

your prob right about the silver, the thing is ive been starring at silver macbooks for so many years, thats why i chose space grey.

i think the reason these nicks bother me is the price of the macbook. in canada, it was nearly 3900 dollars. i dont feel like i spent that much only cause i sold an older retina macbook for 2000, but still, for the price, i am basically expecting this to be perfect inside and out. im assuming thats why im bothered by it. either that or im just ****ed in the head lol

i got away with 2000 on the other macbook caus ei babied the crap out of that thing. it would look brand new when u take the case, palmguard, keyboard cover, and screen shield off.

my other concern is if a buyer would all me out on saying its mint condition when theres a couple nicks on the hinge, which albeit are small and tiny.

at the same time my other concern is as you say, there other plenty of other people with far worse problems then a couple nicks on here, so maybe i got the best i can get.

since i can keep this macbook and wait for a 4th replacement ( i ahvent called in yet tho) i may just ask to give it a shot one more time and see if it the 4th one is the perfect one. worse case if its worse, ill keep the one i have now, and send the 4th one back and call it a day for the next 3 years lol

Sounds like a plan. At best you'll get a perfect one and at worst you'll know you gave it your best shot and either way you'll have a great computer.

I just picked up my 13" tbMBP from the Apple Store and I made sure to open the box and do a visual inspection on the laptop before I left the store. The salesman completely understood the reasoning for my pickiness.

Yeah, mines is a BTO so I can't really exchange it in the store. I'm for sure not keeping this replacement, but I'm not sure if I should give it another shot (seems like the 15-inch BTO are coming from the same factory, so it's a high chance it'll have the same one) or just invest in getting the base model (currently have the 2.7/512/460).
update?

No nicks or chips, double checked on the light. Even used the iPhone flash light to check the scratch by the grill.

I'm thinking the clicking noise is a hardware issue inside that can't be fixed though.

Yeah, I seen that! How bad is it? I probably wouldn't even notice the different shade lol.

I got a very small blemish below the right side of the speaker grill. I did a pick up at the Apple Store and visually inspected the item but didn't notice it initially because it's really difficult to see. I think I'm just going to keep this but really disappointed with Apple on the QC.
