Hmm... Ordered mine an hour after they were released, it will be my first new computer in 5 years and my first mac ever, so as you might be able to tell I was very much ready to order by the time they came out :) Ordered the 2ghz white macbook, with stock specs from the Danish online Apple store. Mine says shipping by 14th november and expected delivery by 22-23rd november.

Am pretty envious of the people who got theirs to ship earlier can't wait for mine to come. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that computers with the Danish keyboard on them are put somewhat to the back of the queue, since the Danish market never has seen any great emphasis from Apple. Also one thing that kind of bugs me is that just because I added a DVI-to-VGA adapter (for using the projectors at university for presentations) it shows up as a custom configuration which could ultimately delay it? Anyway, as I said before adding the Danish keyboard might be considered a custom configuration anyway...

Also, the 22nd november is my 2 year anniversary with my gf, so if it comes that day I won't have any chance to try it out until the 23rd. Consider the pain of having it right there in your hands and screaming for you to unpack it and you just can't because of your stupid love life

Hey Stig, looks like our MB our going to be shipping buddies, because here's what mine says as well:

Nov 12, 2006 1:20 PM
Picked up
SUZHOU CN
Package received after FedEx cutoff

As you can tell from my info, I'm east coast Canada too. Mine initially had a shipping date of Nov. 13-15 and delivery date of Nov. 24-Dec 4. I'm hoping it gets here sometime this week though. I ordered mine last Wednesday pretty much as soon as the Apple Canada online store would let me. Got the 2GHz white upgraded with 2GB RAM. When did you order yours?

Apple store isn't really an option for Canadians unless they live in the Toronto or Montreal area. We have a few resellers here in town, but the two main ones won't give the edu discount, and the university store is always slow in getting the new stuff in. They're still selling the 1G nanos at the old prices.

I guess we are shipping buddies!! I live in Saint John, NB. So only a hour away from each other! I got a white MB, with 2gb ram and 160gb hd. I ordered my with a ed discount around the same time, as soon as I saw the store open on apple.ca I ordered mine! The university store is too slow and they mark up prices like crazy sometimes! I don't by anything from them other than books and maybe a pen or two (if I have to).

True love waits... so tell her to hold on a minute and go watch some tv while you open your Macbook! If she really loves you she'll WANT you to open the Macbook. If she doesn't love apple, then, I'm sorry my friend. Maybe it is time to move on. . .

Poor guy! How do you think the anniversary celebration will go? You know... a long sit down dinner, with your new system sitting in the corner screaming at you. How about this, ask her to marry you, if she says yes give her a big hug and kiss and tell her you really want to check out your new macbook. If she says no, tell her to get the **** out and enjoy your MB.

don't worry about the fedex stuff...

hey

for eveyone who has ordered a mb c2d...it's good if it's coming from china via fedex, believe me. I ordered a mb in september and upgraded the ram...well, it came from the usa and in canada with sameday right o way...well, i never got it. My g/f ordered one the next day and hers came from china via fedex and it was at her door 3 business days after she ordered it even with no expedited shipping...
...oh well, did me a favor really cuz i got my money back and get to have a c2d instead of cd now :)

:D Well, the GF is kind of the romantic type, so yes, candle lit dinner, quiet jazz playing on the stereo, gourmet food, good wine, I think a trip to go see a teater show etc.
All in all, I don't think she'd take too kindly to being told to go watch the telly  About loving Apple, well, I'm sold, ever since I was allowed to play with my friend's new Macbook for about an hour 2 months ago, but the only mac my gf has ever had any experience with was her mother's old Macintosh Performa, so I don't think I can demand love of Apple from her (yet ;) ). However she has been talking an awful lot about getting an iPod lately, perhaps that should be the big diversion, I could give her an iPod as an anniversary gift and then she'll be busy playing around with that and oh... I could tell her about how easy implemention of iPod is with my Macbook, that's the way to go!!

After all, asking her to marry me could have some serious implications on the rest of my life  :D

So these are definitely in stores now? Does anyone know whether they're in the UK stores yet. I went in on thursday and they said they were expecting some over the weekend. I'm intending on going and picking one up tomorrow you see. Is it worth the 1-2.0gb increase?

I'm in the western coast of Canada (BC), I ordered mine (white, 2GHz, 2GB RAM) on Wednesday and had the same ship and delivery time, but then I decided to upgrade my ram to 2GB so everything is pushed back. My shipping date is Nov. 14 - 16 and my delivery date is between Nov. 27 - Dec 5. I wish it would come faster so I could use it before the semester ended.

We only have resellers over here and they seem to mark certain items up and won't give educational discounts.

My new MacBook C2D

Hi,

I got my MacBook C2D this past Saturday, from an Apple store. It's a standard Black one, 2Ghz, 120GB hard drive. Anyways, someone earlier mentioned loud fans.... YES mine has the same issue. It idles at a temp of 60 C and has a small amount of fan noise, but, if I do anything that puts moderate load on the cpu, the fan gets pretty noisy (and temperatures hit about 80 C). In fact, I'd say that it is so noisy that it would attract attention in a quiet library, and is noticeable even 15-20 feet away. I also don't know if this is normal or not for MacBooks, and would like to hear other peoples' experiences, as it is loud enough to really bother me.... I have 12 more days to decide whether to return it or not!

Situations so far that kick in the fans loudly are:
* playing a video podcast (1.5mbits/sec encoding rate, pushed cpu to 66%)
* installing XCode
* importing about 50 pictures into iPhoto from my camera
* running CineBench or super_pi
To put load on your CPU, you can open up the command terminal (bash shell) and run these commands (2 of the same command because the C2D has 2 cpus):
yes > /dev/null&
yes > /dev/null&

I can say definitively that this is by far the loudest laptop computer I have ever used. I ran some heavy benchmarks on my Thinkpad T42 sitting right next to my Macbook and the fan was very quiet by comparison, even though the Thinkpad CPU was totally maxxed out. I also have used many other laptops in the past and fan noise has never been this loud.

By the way, I'm blogging about my experiences, you can read my review of the MacBook C2D at topicpoint.com

I have to say that I'm very concerned about the fan noise issues as I'll be using the macbook for audio recording.
My current laptop (HP) is veery quiet and cool, the fan rarely turns on and when it does it's barely noticeable. However, it's a lot larger so cooling is probably easier.
The reason I'm going to get rid of it is mostly because of the size and the fact that it has cracks on the screen so part of it is dead. Also, I'd like to get rid of Windows all together (I use linux for everything but recording).

The macbook seems pretty much perfect for my needs besides the fan noise.

Is there no way to throttle the CPU so that it doesn't peak that much? I could live without some speed in exchange for less noise.

The fans aren't a big deal. All you need is smcFanControl to set the fans at 3000RPM which is still pretty quiet and enough to keep your MB under control. I'd say the SuperDrive is louder than the fans and they are the only ones that can vibrate the whole computer.

Well, silly me, I've only been looking at the FedEx tracker and didn't realize the expected delivery date was in my shipping confirmation e-mail from Apple:

Shipment Date:
NOV 12, 2006

Delivers by:
NOV 16, 2006

I'm excited. Hopefully this gives me enough time to put a presentation together in Keynote rather than Powerpoint for one of my projects next Monday.

YES!!! Mine just shipped now, a day early! I really hope that I'll get it before the 22nd for the obvious reasons listed above. Now I'm just waiting for the shipment details to become available so that I can log in every 30 minutes to track the shipment progress :D

I just got mine today. I ordered it on Wednesday and it shipped on Friday from China. I got the 2.0Ghz white with stock 1GB RAM. I should have read up on it because I still thought that it was more expensive to buy the RAM upgrade from Apple. Oh well, I'll use it like it is for now.
I haven't had a chance to use it yet since I'm at work. This is my first Mac. I'm surprised at how small it is. The only other laptop I've owned is a 15" widescreen Dell Inspiron 6000 and the MacBook is noticably thinner and lighter.
I'm really excited to finally have my very first Mac in hand. I kept telling myself that as soon as they upgraded the MacBooks to the C2D I was going to buy one and I did.

Your fan issue is strange. Maybe a faulty heat sensor? Ive heard several reports of people getting the new c2d macbooks and they run silent.

I went into the apple store in london today and got myself a white 2.0ghz macbook. Not had any issues as of yet, loving it :D. No silly whine, no loud fans, just pure bliss! The dvd player wont play my written dvds though :S.

Got mine yesterday.

Hi all. This is my first post on this forum & also my first ever Mac !!!!

I have been waiting for 3 months for the arrival of the new version macbooks to arrive & as soon as I read about the update last Wednesday I wanted one straight away!

I visited my Local Apple store (Meadowhall, Sheffield,UK) & the sales guy said they had just recieved a shipment on Saturday night but there were no Blackbooks in the pallet. Much to my surprise thay were still selling the older & more expensive model macbooks to the people that didnt know about the revised editions! So I took a 2.0ghz C2D in white to match my ipod video :)

I have been a Windows guy for 8 years now & the jump to Mac OS was easier than I thought. The macbook itself runs like a dream ! No loud fan noises (cant even hear them).Applications open instantly. The keyboard is a joy to use. I dont know much about the OS so if anyone wants to ask me to check a certain spec on say the wireless card etc... then just direct me in the OS & ill post back details.

Cheers fellas.:D

From the other reports I would say you have a defective fan(s) and should call AppleCare to arrange for a repair.

I was a switcher back in 2001 when OSX was fairly new and got a G3 iBook (firewire). Currently own a 17" 1GHz iMac.

At any rate, click on the Apple in the menu bar then About This Mac, then More Info to open the system profiler. This is comparable to the Device Manager in PCs.

I ordered my white 2GHz C2D MacBook from MacMall (they had 6 months no payments) and it's on backorder for who knows how long. Could this be due to the new "N" wifi cards, or is it just poor inventory on Macmall's part???

Cheers,
Bryan

I'm worried about all these report of loud fans, I was just about ready to place my order before I heard this. Looks like I might be stretching to a base mbp now... unless anyone can convince me that it's not pot luck whether you get a silent one or a loud one?

Reads like pot luck. But you should be able to get a loud one fixed.
