Darn you MB owners and your screens that have even brightness.

I had two C2D MBPs before I bought this MB that had horrible backlighting issues. I finally said forget it and got the MB. I'm glad I went with the MB as I have a powerful desktop for anything processor hungry and I saved some money going with the MB as well.

New MB; Replace Hard Drive

I got the original MB and returned it -- it was extremely hot. A few days ago, I got the C2D, thinking I might have to return it. I find it is much better than the original one, and I will probably keep it. It seems to run much cooler -- I have 2 GIGS Ram, and the fans are almost never noticeable (my original MB used to moo all the time).

If you replace the Hard Drive, it is important to note that the Torx screws are of different sizes in the front and back -- unless you examine them carefully, they look the same, and if you put the bigger ones on the part of the drive that has to slide the farthest in, the drive won't fit unless you force it slightly.

I just saw on the Ifixit pics of the internal parts of the Macbook, and it seems that the cpu fan does not have and external air vent,
the small holes behind the macbook are blocked from inside by the aluminum cover from inside.
could that be why it gets soooo hot?

i'm realy intetested in buying this new C2D macbook, but i'm very concerned about so many issues (even before). cos i'm in Brazil, and to get my macbook replaced if it has any problem would take 30 to 60 days!
why has apple been so bad on quality control lately??

just got my black c2d macbook this morning (2gb ram/200gb HD) and everything seems fine and dandy = no mooin/no whirring noises/no peeling/firm track button/it's def. warm but not any hotter than my pb g4 ti. the screen colors are not as crisp as i remembered when first trying it out, but i will be hooking this up to my 23" ACD so it's not that big of a concern.

the one thing that always kills me is how much space the mac os/preinstalled software takes = already 40GB is being allocated and once i get all my programs (photoshop/indsesign/illustrator) and files (itunes/iphoto) on there, i will probably be left with just 60-70GB.

all in all really happy with the size (the battery is heavy as hell though) and the black finish. :p

Can anyone with a white Macbook C2D (maybe even someone who had previously owned a white macbook cd) comment on the plastic near the palmrests/ trackpad. I think its great that I am hearing much better reports on cooling/fans/mooing (for the most part) with the new C2Ds but what about the staining? I realize it may be a bit too early to tell, but does the plastic feel different? Perhaps, Apple wizened up a bit, and are using new plastic now? Any comments would be much appreciated. I am in the market... as it were...

I've been waiting for the C2D MacBook since August 7th, so I ran down to the local Apple Store the day they were released and bought a black MacBook, standard config (2GHz C2D, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, etc). I needed the extra disk space and now you're only paying $50 extra for the black enclosure, so I said what the hell. I've been using it almost a week now with no issues (knock on wood!).

So far, it has been great (more wood knocking!). I have no issues with overheating (my work IBM laptop gets hotter than this MB). I ran some load tests and got the fan spinning up, but it's no big deal. It's certainly not as loud as the old Toshiba Tecra I used at work. Maybe I didn't get it pumped up into Turbo mode, but I can't imagine it could get much louder than it was.

I'm using the OS straight out of the box and have connected 3 daisy-chained FireWire drives to it from my old G4 DP. No problems.

I've installed a few basic apps on it (and uninstalled the MS Office demo), but now I plan to back up the internal HD using SuperDuper before I proceed with anymore installations.

At this point, I'm totally happy with this computer. I brought it to work everyday, and I'm considering migrating my work IBM laptop's data to it (under Parallels... or VMWare, when that finally gets released).

Oh, I also bought some accessories:
- a Mighty Mouse because even though I'm a Mac fanboi, I gotta have a 2-button mouse
- InCase MacBook sleeve
- MarWare Protection Pack for MacBook (covers/protects the palmrests)
- Applecare, because it is a laptop afterall

If anything changes, I'll post it here. Damn, I hope nothing changes. :(

okay, so i am working w/ my new macbook at home now. maybe i'm not use to the new glossy screens (i have a pb g4 ti and 23" acd) but i think i might have this "back light" bleeding issue. my screen just looks over bright/colors seem faded have to position the screen almost flat/completely open to get a decent view of the screen. opinions on if this is the dreaded back light bleed? thanks:confused:

I just got my macbook 2 days ago. First Mac and i love this thing. Its really fast and responsive. Display is awesome. I do have a question to the new macbook owners though. When my "book" is closed it seems the top half is a little loose and slightly shifts side to side when pressure is applied at the corners. i noticed this while whiping some finger prints. is this normal? Anyone else noticing this?

I called FedEx about this. I guess when they say "MEMPHIS, TN" the second time they really mean, Toronto, Ontario. My macbook is on it's way from Toronto to Moncton. They said I should have my macbook on thrusday. Sweet.

I technically ordered it on the 8th, then changed my RAM from 1GB to 2GB on the 9th. My ship date was Nov. 14 - Nov. 16 (like yours). I was really bummed yesterday when it didn't ship, but today, it showed it shipped already and it's delivery date is Nov. 17 - Nov. 21 (bumped up from Nov. 27 - Dec. 5) and I chose the standard delivery. Maybe it'll come earlier since I'm in BC, Canada and I'm on the west coast.....

i noticed that a few people mentioned installing OSX upon opening the box. Does this mean that OSX does not come preinstalled or it does and these people are just reinstalling?
If the latter, can one give the pros of reinstalling and the steps to doing it?

I think I got you beat Stig. I just checked a few minutes ago to see my status before I headed off to class and it showed that it mine was in Fredericton as of 11:13am this morning. I then went to the bathroom to clean up before class, then the phone rang! FedEx at the door with my new MB! Too bad I have to run to class right now and TA a lab this afternoon! No time to play! Gotta run. More details probably later tonight.

Cheers,

I was wondering the same thing. Is it easy to uninstall then reinstall?

My MacBook came preinstalled with Mac OS X but I shoved in a 120GB Seagate HD. The installation was easy. I used the Disk Utility to create a HFS+ partition, then I installed Mac OS X and the good stuff that came with it. All that took about 30 minutes.

Some people just like to reinstall fresh themselves, others are putting in a bigger hard drive right away. To do a fresh install, just pop in the Install DVD, restart the computer, hold down the "C" key as soon as the screen goes black, let it boot to the disc, go through the installation process (choose language, continue, etc...), when it gets to where it asks you for where to install it, choose your HD icon, and there should be an Options button to the lower left. Click it, select Erase and Install, continue on, and it will...Erase and Install. :)

For the person with the kernal panics, if he doesn't have any external devices plugged in and no 3rd party RAM, I know you won't enjoy it, but Erase and Install would be the thing to try. Apple certainly will have you try that before sending the computer back in. If you migrated from a PowerPC Mac to this, I've seen cases where migrating like that caused some issues, especially with iLife stuff.

Aww, man, I'm about to get frustrated. My computer shipped 2½ days ago and it's really starting to bug me that there's no tracking details yet. For all I know it might still be standing in the postal room of Apple's Chinese plant

Well, actually that's not what really bugs me, the thing that's getting to me is that on the order status page it says "In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly", well, it said that 60 hours ago as well. For me "shortly" means a few hours, not 60 hours+ Anyway, just want to blow off some steam, since I'm waiting unpatiently for this thing and this makes me wonder whether someone, somewhere ****ed something up. Because it's either that or it's just plain poor service :(

Reading posts from people with experience with Apple in these matters I gather that it's probably the latter, but anyway...
