Seagate World HQ where much of the engineering is done is based where I live. So I'm trying to support local employment by wanting Seagate Hard Drives inside. :)

Added joking to original post.

I can see your point, but the last post that involved un-american just sounded a little harsh. You may have a point, from your view

Just ordered my 17 MBP!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first mac (other then the mini i bought two weeks ago for my house) and its a whopping 17 inch MBP!!! I went with the 160gb after a longgggg time of hesitation between that and the 7200 so i really hope its the perpendicular. anyways oh well im ridiculously happy as it is.

For all you others in the same boat as me...the lady who placed my order via phone said that 7-10 days was the absolute longest and that she could nearly guarentee me that it wont take that long. we all suspected but it was nice to get a confirmation...

Say's Who?

I edited my original post above to reflect not confirmed.

Actually, earlier on in this thread, the 120GB's appear to be Fujitsu. So maybe not the 160's! I'm hoping for the Seagate, as well. Though, both manufacturers are putting out 160GB perpendicular recording drives. Here's to hoping that Apple's using the quality drives :)

You mean like Seagate support local employment by having the bulk of their employees in factories in China and Singapore?

Apple use hard drives from different manufacturers in the same model lines and you can often not guarantee what make you'll end up with - you know that. Come on Multimedia, it's another excuse for you not to pull the trigger on a new Mac, that's all. When you get your Intel Core 8 Octo, designed and built in the USA, easy-access HD bay, Santa Rosa-Claus MacBook Nano-Pro you'll be happy ;)

Seagate drives have an unparalleled 5 year warranty.

No, not as OEM drives in Apple computers they don't. The warranty is honoured by Apple, not Seagate.

Exactly, always waiting for tomorrow; tomorrow never comes.

We all play the game though.

Just Got My Macbook!

My macbook just arrived!!!!! It was just shipped yesterday and already arrived in Minneapolis. I got mine early because my order was placed on Friday through an Applecare dispatch agent and they gave me express shipping. So far it is super nice (much better than the powerbook it is replacing). It's the base 2.16 model with no BTO options (I didn't have a choice...it was a free replacement computer though..i can't complain). I will try to post more information and maybe a mini review or something later. If anyone has something specific they want to know let me know.

It's true, I held off for three extra months (with a Dell that has more issues than my old Pentium-90 machine) to get this latest MBP...

Apple Store in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan -- a pretty damn big Apple Store, even -- didn't have the C2Ds. Oddly, they'd removed the price tag displays from all their MacBook Pros, and told me they didn't have any in stock, period. Which is very sad.

So I went to an electronics retailer where I have a point card (basically, you get 10% store credit on every item you buy); they're selling the MBP at the same price as the Apple Store; they already had the 15" and...the guy told me they'd "most likely" have the 17" in tomorrow.

Well, today is tomorrow!! So I might just have that 17" and be online at home with it in . . . four hours.

Yessssss

What store was that with the points card? I'll be in Japan this time next year (I hope). I'll have a new MBP by then though.

and how is houston treating you? :)

Actually I'm near Salt Lake. Other than all the missionaries coming by every week I seem to be doing fine. In a way I'm glad they come over.. it's nice to have company. Only have one real friend here, and only because I met him on MR! They'll never convert me though. Scary stuff.

Actually he lives in Santa Cruz and wants to support local industry. I think that's just fine. While I'd never buy anything from Santa Cruz if I could help it... too many pot-heads down there, I think there's nothing at all wrong with what he said. He just used the "Japanese" word to mean "outside of Santa Cruz" as opposed to Seagate's local plant.

Lighten up.

Hope you put checking to see if the GPU runs the same speed as the 2.33 Ghz model as a priority. Just check on page two of this thread. The top model is getting 418/450 I think.

Any of you guys realize the GPU ratio speed increase is 300/418, about a 39% increase in GPU speed over the previous model, similar to what Apple is using in it's advertisement? Coincidence maybe?

Run Handbrake Rip Tests Yourself At An Apple Store

MBP123 said:
no kidding...... fps?
Take a copy of Handbrake and some sample DVDs and/or DVD Images on a DVD to your Apple store and they will let you install it and run it. Find out for yourself because we all use different settings to rip with Handbrake you cannot expect someone else to run those tests for you.

I use Images all the time and hardly ever DVDs.

Brian, that is bs. real bull$&it. You can run windows and integrate into the office if you need to. or is there a security issue, or are others not allowed to bring them in.

I agree, but it is not just me...policy is no non-company assets.

Since I am in the IT Security dept...kinda hard to bend the rules.

Mine should ship soon

Apple just charged my VISA today for my MacBook Pro which usually means that it is going to ship very soon... I can't wait.

Darn. Pentagon city got a bunch in, all "pre-sold" which was never an option I was given to be put on a list. Plus they were 2.16ghz models only so it doesn't really matter.

Clarendon : 0 "We only get stuff in on tuesday, so call next week" Somehow I doubt that. Thats two people giving me answers there I don't think of as useful.

Tysons, no clue as they are not answering the phone.
