Anyone think it strange that I can play 3 h.264 encoded quicktime movies at the same time without the fans coming up full blast, but if on a webpage with lots of Flash animations (or viewing flash vids like YouTube) the fans kick in like crazy?

I didn't think Flash was that intensive... but I could be wrong.

Shipped!

Very excited and hoping to win the display lottery. Kinda sad that I have to hope the display I get is a good one on a $3000 laptop  This will be my primary workhorse, multiple virtual appliances (once VMWare is out), mostly software dev, but some photo, video and audio editing work too. Just glad to be coming back to the Mac fold.

As far as im aware, its more like "I hope I dont notice it" lottery or "I hope it doesnt bother me". Its on every MBP, but some people get more annoyed or dont notice it as much as others. I have only just noticed it when I heard about on on this forum, and it really doesnt bother me at all.

I've always hated flash for this reason. On my iMac G5 2.0GHz most flash sites brought it to a standstill (1.5GB RAM), so I installed a plugin that doesn't play flash animations unless you click on them.

Doesn't seem as much as a problem on my MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM, but it still is a poorly optimized piece of crap IMHO. JavaScript and QT can do anything flash can with the resources.

Allright, got me a 15incher from the store, it's the 2.16 version with 2Gb of ram. I seem to have no issues at all and am enjoying my first contacts with the macworld.:)

well... when you ordered your MBP if you didnt select the glossy option then you will get the matte display standard

LOL... I am not referencing the matte vs. glossy...

I keep hearing about "good" screens and "bad" screens..,, I ordered a matte screen.. but I guess apple is using different manufactures for their screens.. and the quality s different amongst these screens...

cheers

oh... sorry. I dont think there is anyway to know which display you will get then. I will say though that I have had no problems at all with my MBP display.

I will get a MBP soon :)

Hello to all!

My first post, been lurking here for a quite a while, but never got interested or time to register :D

I'm thinking to buy a new C2D MacBook Pro. Just need to wait for couple of weeks so my tax refunds will be paid, so I get the money for the machine :)

I'm thinkin to get this 2.16GHz version, with a 160gig HDD. After that I think I'll just buy a 1gig RAM from somewhere a lttle cheaper than apple is offering. That should be a dream machine after that.

I was also thinking to get the 2.33 version, but I don't think that I'll need the extra VRAM or CPU power. And of course, when living in Finland, we have to pay higher prices in Apple stores than in states/Canada, because our tax rates are much higher (god I hate this government ;)

The 2.16 version costs 1829euros with edu-discount so I think I'll end up to it :)

Please tell us how responsive your 4200rpm Toshiba 200GB PMR feels. What's the net size? 190 or less? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Found a thread on the subject click here. Looks good. MovieCutter successfully did HDV editing with it no problem.

I think the final size is 186GB or something, I don't have it in front of me now.

Performance seems great, but not having two machines to compare together, that doesn't mean anything really. I don't expect there to be any problem with movie editing or anything, unless you are real time editing HDTV or something :) in which case you should be using a Mac pro with striped RAID.

INF, Like you I was lurking until I registered on my new MBP C2D 17" 160GB, 5400 rpm, matte screen :D
It comes with 2GB RAM and I decided to stick with this for a while. I do light video editing and have gotten away with my PB Titanium with far less, so I'm curious if I have to max this one out. I'd wait before putting more RAM.
So far, it's stealthy quiet, everything working as it should, and if it were any sexier, it would be X-rated. Good luck.

Sorry to bring up the question again but how do I (once my 17" comes in) check the screen build? I want to see if it is 9C60 or w/e.

Made the switch!

Hello all!

Finally pulled the trigger yesterday, went and picked up a 15 (2.33) from the AppleCentre. Spent about 30 minutes in the store going over the machine (wanted to make sure the screen was perfect!) and am really happy with it.

Unfortunately I had dinner plans last night, so didn't get a chance to play  Oh well, that's what the weekend's for I guess!

Glad to be a switcher!

yay i finally got mine and 2 days before the expected delivery date. however i had one HUGE problem with the shipping. i was supposed to sign for it, but they guy just left it at my door. i have $2000 laptop sitting in front of my front door where everyone can see it. thats not acceptable, even though if he hadnt dropped it off, i would have had to drive to the fedex facility.

no problems so far!! its better than i expected!

fan control

Hi guys!

My new Mbp just arrived, it's 17" matte cd2 2gb 160gb hitachi 5400 rmp and seem to work fine. In fact, this is my first apple experience (wow) and I would like to ask you something: I noticed my machine gets quite hot on the battery and the back part of the base,, near the screen; it does this expecially when it charges. I donwloaded and installed the aplication fan control to check if everything is all right but I'm bot expert enough to judge. can anyone give any tip? thanks a lot!!!!

Apple replaced my vibrating MBP 15" 2.33 due to a faulty Hitachi 160 GB drive. Typing this on a perfect replacement.

You can't necessarily tell if it's bad just by the model #.

I believe the 17" LCD to be 9C62.
15" is 9C60.

dont come here and say that there's a new LCD out : 9C62!
