I can't wait to get my hands on my new 17" C2D MBP :D

Been waiting for it since August, ordered it the minute the store came online in Belgium ....
And now I have to wait for Apple to verify my wiretransfer payment ....

Banks are frelling slow here :(

Friend of mine bought one, wiretransfered it from the same bank company (= instant wiretransfer) and its expected delivery date is nov. 9th.

I'm kinda hoping having to wait for payment confitrmation won't delay mine....
I paid for the 17" MBP on the Tuesday evening (BST) and I checked my account yesterday and today but Apple still haven't come up on the online statement HOWEVER the available balance on my account suggests the money has been allocated and is just waiting to clear.
Given the delivery times people here are getting I'm reckoning my delivery date of the 15th is highly conservative and that the end of next week/beginning of the next is more likely! (Crossing fingers!)

Is Perpedicular Recording Good?

I order my MBP with a 160gig HD. I did see how some of the earlier drivers had failures but I hope this is resolved but what about Perpendicular Recording? Is that a good thing to have? Does it it to be faster?

Any idea whether the difference between a 128 MB and a 256 MB videocard would be noticable with Aperture (using 10 MP raw images, a 20" external screen plus the built-in 15" one)?

zadillo: call tysons and ask to be put "on the list" They haven't had any come in yet, but they are taking names.

BTW: I called PC, clarendon, tysons, bethesda 1 and bethesda 2 (yes, there are two)

I havent tried columbia yet, but I can't go there at the moment anyways.

Call Tysons? For what? Is there some kind of new chicken being released that I haven't heard about yet?

Given what I've seen and read, the new c2d gpus seems to be essentially the same as the previous mbps except it's clocked higher, though still lower than the standard.

There are numerous # of threads of people clocking their mbps up to around 400/400 and more w/o catching fire or overheating except fan issues. But I think that's due to either a mechanically sub par fan or fan speed management in xp is poor.

One reason why the GPU in the original mbp is underclocked is probably due to giving these new mbps the ability to have these higher clock speeds. It saves ATI and Apple money by using one chip rather than having two (manufacturing, drivers, r&d, etc).

Use AtiTool 0.25 beta 14, anything after that has issues reading or oc'ing the gpu.

Yep, it's awesome. They released a new chicken that causes you to release a pheremone designed to make strippers believe you are made of money, and that you really will pay them later.

Then they have a second version called tysons two (code name : galleria) that does the same thing, but for regular gold digging 30-50 year old women.

I talked to the people at Tysons earlier this morning, and they said nothing was in yet, but they expected them "soon". I tried to pin them down if anything would be available tomorrow or Saturday, but they couldn't tell me.

I stopped by the Towson, Maryland store tonight. They had one in stock but wasn't sure if it was matte or glossy. They said they've received a few a day.

Almost, but not quite, time to buy...

This almost looks like a great time to buy a new setup. A system I'd love to get now would be a macbook pro and a 30" cinema display for use at home. I understand there are some advantages to getting them at the same time, as far as that applecare protection, so I would want to treat it as one purchase if I were going to buy both.

There's just one holdup. Dell's 30" display, the 3007WFP, can be had for just $1279, compared with $1999 for the Apple. That's a $720 difference in price. What gives Apple?

The Dell is essentially the same display. The size is the same, the dot pitch and resolution are the same, the brightness is the same, the contrast is the same, the viewing angle is the same.

Unfortunately, I have some brand loyalty. I'd like it to say Apple, and I'd like the nice aluminum case Apple's display has. I would pay extra for that.

But not $720 extra. That is a ripoff I can't justify. $100 extra I would do.

Come on Apple, bring your pricing in line with the competition. If their 30" display were at a competitive price, I would buy the whole package today, brand new macbook pro and all. But since their price is so far from competitive, I'm not buying anything.

160GB drive make/model?

This has already been asked several times in this thread, but if anyone has the new MacBook Pro with 160GB drive please can they have a look in System Profiler (Apple menu -> About -> More info -> Serial-ATA) and post the model number here?

For what it's worth, I wouldn't trust a Fujitsu drive further than I could throw it - give me a Seagate every time! I'm speaking from experience.

Hi all, I've been lurking waiting for a MBP update for awhile now, but never posted before.

It seems to me that there are actually very few people that have the new C2D machines already (2 that I can see that have at least said anything yet) so I'm sure the benchmark tests are coming.:) Let Brian get home from work and watch, lets say, Grey's Anatomy.:p Especially questions asking about BTO specs like the 160 GB HD, I think it's safe to say those machines haven't made it to anyone just yet.

I'm still waiting for my Apple Store to call me (I put myself on the list 5 min after they opened on Tuesday for a 2.33GHz 15" 120GB Glossy). I called today (repeatedly) and they got some 15" in early this evening but no glossy screens.

Has anyone received a glossy screened C2D MBP yet?

Hey all, so glad I waited for C2D update. Anyway, I plan on purchasing a base MBP and I was wondering if i should do the $90 (under student discount) HD upgrade to 160GB or just buy it stock at the Apple store? What you guys think?

that damn quotation mark

Depends on where you're from. The British put punctuation marks outside the quotes or parenthesis, and I think this makes more sense than the way Americans do it.

Not that I think the British do much of anything right mind you, but I have adopted that. :)

yep, that and the American way was invented just for typsetting in the old print presses so that the little full stop would hold in the quotation mark. other than that, this point while funny is not even a grammatical issue
