That link says that it IS PMR. Am i reading it wrong?

From the Fujitsu site:

"The MHW2160BH (160GB) is applied Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology.
The MHW2080BH has PMR technology model and Longitudinal Magnetic Recording (LMR) technology model.
The other capacity products are applied LMR technology."

Since I do not have the 80 or 160, I assume it falls into the "other" category?

Does the LCD have that uneven cloudy quality when it first starts up?

The 15" Core Duo LCD is not as bad but both have uneven backlighting -- bright at center and darker at corners with a very limited viewing angle.

Thank you, bcavanau for sharing your experiences w/ the new MBP! and congrats on being probably one of the 1st ppl to get one!

Please let us know how the battery is after you've calibrated it properly. Although i have a feeling it's not going to be any different than the CoreDuo MBP.... but let know anyway! :)

thanks and congrats again!

I'd like to know if there is any sound emitted from the drive spinning up from sleep when you wake the machine. Sorry if that sounds weird :p

Sorry guys...I got distracted.

Was eating dinner, watching Lost, and playing with the MBP.

I am actively installing XP Pro now (50% of copying files)...so the wireless, and GPU questions will be confirmed soon...hang in there.

i thought it was something like three hours

but 2.5 in actuality

soo...maybe 4 hours? still pretty good, the macbook battery was decent (3-3 1/2)

They said UP TO 4.5 hours for the Core Duo MBP, and are now saying up to 5 hours for the Core 2 Duo MBP. These are both basically the maximum you'd expect to get, running with wireless off, no disk drive access, at the lowest brightness setting, etc.

With normal usage, you get closer to those kinds of real world numbers in the 3 hour range, but it seems like by bumping the maximum estimated time up, people might expect better battery life with this new model.

So why do the stores have them so far in advance of the online store?

You probably can't always predict shipping. I would guess that they already had some stuff shipped on the way to various physical Apple stores, so they'd be in stock sooner, but the shipping for a new order placed from the online store would at best start the day the MBP was publicly unveiled.

Well...

That didn't help much...

1. GPU - Not detected by the ATI tool...shows 0/0. I tried the latest beta build as well, and got core of 1314.56 and memory of 1399.37 so I am gonna say it is not functioning correctly (the tool)

2. Wireless - Is not detected by XP, nor does the bootcamp 1.1.1 drivers support the card, so I'm gonna say it is a new card/revision...N? not sure...

Any ideas on how to verify further?

Small update...

When running dxdiag, the Internal DAC on the x1600 shows (400MHz) is that what we are looking for?

Out of curiosity, could you run 3DMark05 and 3DMark06 (both available at http://www.futuremark.com) while in XP?

Sort of curious about that.

Might also be interesting to replace the bootcamp ATI drivers with the omega drivers from omegadrivers.net (supposed to boost performance, etc.).

That is pretty interesting that the current Boot Camp drivers don't support the wireless. It at least indicates its something newer than the previous MBP's. Have people with the new C2D iMacs had a similar problem (these are also reported to have a wireless-n card, that is seen in XP)?

I would say that's pretty nice if that is the case though, another unadvertised "perk" of these new models if that's the case.

Core voltage is .850

Memory clock is 450.00
Memory voltage is 1.80

I/O voltage is 1.80
