Is that more than the previous model?

Yes. The old one was something like 310 MHz core and 278 MHz memory according to some reports. I think that the iMacs with the X1600 were at 400/400.

Stock speed on the X1600 is something around 470/470.

So this would seem to be a significant improvement. Still underclocked, but not nearly so much.

Something I found just a little distracting, not terrible mind you, on the other macbook pros was the isight pin hole indicator. Is the isight pin hole indicator still there? Or does the light show through the metal casing? I only ask this because 1) I don't see the pin hole in the pictures you put up (but the image is taken far away) and 2) when looking on apples website under the store for the macbook pro C2D, under gallary, the isight doesn't have that pinhole either. Just curious.

Apple does care, which is why OSX identifies the new cards as 802.11g.

Exactly. If Apple didn't care, they would say "Now shipping with pre-N!!!!". As it is, they are basically keeping this under wraps (like with the C2D iMacs).... the only reason anyone even knows about it is because they discovered it while running in Windows.

This is in comparison to Dell, where they are really pushing pre-N cards on their laptops (to the point where I've seen at least a few config options where pre-N wireless cards are the only options).

What Apple Store?

bcavanau said:
I can tell you later tonight.

I just got back from the local Apple store.

I bought a 15 inch 2.16 last Friday, returned it this morning for the 15 inch 2.33 (both top 15 inch model.)

My boss won't let me bring it into the office :(, but I shall report back this evening....

FYI, the Apple store I was in today got 5-6 of the lower end 15 inch model, and I bought the "only" top end unit they got in.

I was standing at the counter, asking for a refund, (they were not expecting to get the new models until tomorrow) when one of the guys came out of the back with the new models right off the truck....I guess I lucked out...

Their "cheat sheet" says they will not get any 17 inch models until early next week.

Later,
Brian
Why did you not tell us which store where? Please?

I cannot speak for all stores, but that is what I observed at the Troy, Michigan (Somerset Mall) location.
You can put your city and state in your Sig or Profile so it appears with every post. Finally found your obscure post saying where you are.

So I figure everyone on here is going to bag on me for asking this question, but what the hell.... does anyone know if there will be a chance of the new Apple wireless cards being supported in Linux (Kubuntu)? I know that Apple's Airport cards/drivers were proprietary and therefore non-functional in Linux, instead requiring the use of a third party wireless card... it looks as if the new cards are not manufactured by Apple, so is there a chance? (note: I only use linux on my old 1.2 GHz iBook G4 because it is way faster)

He's correct, no pinhole for the LED ! wonder if they did away with it or there is some other indicator now ! mabie a green halo around it :D

Ordered mine yesterday morning, says it will ship by Nov 8th  has anyone else got late shipping times on the 17 inch model?

I think this will niceley replace my aging ti book 667 that i am using to type this. I wonder if i will notice a speed improvement?

YES on the late ship time for 17"!! Shipped by Nov 8, delivered by Nov 16...if the stores have them earlier I may have to cancel and go the instant gratification route!

camera

On the Apple homepage if you look at the pictures of the new laptops, theres one showing the camera. And its animated. They made a "green" light "appear" just to the right of the camera. Dunno if there really is a light, but Apple made it seemlight the silver will show the geen led light from behind it.

Two Finger right click

Sorry if this has been posted before. But is there the option to do two finger right click on the new C2D MBPs? Basically, you put two fingers on the trackpad and the click button becomes a right click. I know this feature was on the Macbooks. But doesn't seem to exist on the old MBPs. You may need to enable it in the System preferences.

Just curious. This is one of my requirements to upgrade to the MBP.

Thanks

Guess we'll have to wait and see when someone opens up the case, but the C2D MBP appears to have no internal revisions, so the GPU should be running at the same clock as before. I suppose they could have tweaked the firmware/software that monitors internal temps to run the fan sooner, such that a higher clock could work, but other than that, if there has been nothing doing internally, the GPU would be the same as before.

MacBook Pro owner notes on improved WoW performance using SMC Fan Control

see this page below for the two ATI utilities for setting/reading the GPU core/memory rates, varies from system to system what the reported values are:
