Mb = Megabit
MB = Megabyte

However, that doesn't mean the Fujitsu drive does 120 Megabytes a second. That is just a theoretical maximum (even high-end esktop drives don't do more than around 80MB/sec). The 540Mb/s (67,5MB/s) of the Hitachi drive sound more like a realistic value.

However, here's a real-world test of the drives (it's a review of the fujitsu 200gb drive but the other drives are listed in the results as well):

I figured (hoped) it was. I am trying to decide if I want to go by the Apple store tonight for the stock 2.33 or CTO with the 160GB drive. Just rcv'd a call they have one for me....This would have made it easy. Thanks for the reply.

Just got my new MBP C2D on saturday at the local Apple store. I called that day, they had a few left, I reserved one, picked it up a few hours later.

On the store there is a order status page that tracks the package for you. In fact you should have recieved an email to say it has been dispatched; there is a link in this email that takes you to the order status page. The info is pretty poor though, mine shipped 4 days early, still says delivery date of the 6th Nov though (I ordered mine on the day) which it has since I ordered it. Also it is shipping by UPS, I have a tracking number for the items I bought with my MBPro which doesn't work on the UPS site and the MBPro itself says Merge in Transit GB but no tracking number. So I presume my delivery date will be earlier, and the comp itself is winging its way from China or something and UPS haven't updated the info. You can also call apple to get tracking info I believe.

Glossy or Matte?

Not that I have the mental capacity to go back through all of the threads, but would be nice if we could determine what specs are taking the longest...

I ordered 15"/2.16/2GB/160GB/Matte last night and my estimated delivery is the 9th... (Estimated ship is the 2nd)

Seems like either the 2.33 or the Glossy is slowing it all down..

Logitech wireless in your photo?

Hey guys..

I just uploaded a side pic for your measument pleasure, as well as a couple shots of the rear vents...including one close enough to see some components inside..

Once again, glad to help.

First time poster so first I would like to extend thanks to not only you bcavanau but also to all contributers for so much information. This will be my first Mac and notebook purchase so this thread has been very helpful indeed.

My question is concerning the mouse in your photograph. Are you using Logitech wireless with your MBP? If so could you or anyone else explain the pros and cons of Mac's "Mighty Mouse bluetooth". I started to order this mouse with my MBP but now have reservations due in part to certain articles I've read.

Thanks

Is anyone on my Slow Boat from China?

Just out of curiosity, when did you place your order and what was the original Estimated Ship date?

This can't be good.. it hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm already anticipating something that isn't scheduled to be shipped for 2 more days.

15" vs 17" mouse area

I need to decide between a 15" and a 17" MBP, and I've heard that for some women the 17" area around the mouse can sometimes be uncomfortable (seems to be kind of far from the keyboard). Can anybody help me with this?

Is it worth spending the $300 some on the warranty?

I would also appreciate any other comments you may have on preferring on over the other.

Thank you.

My order date was Oct 26, 2006 at 08:16 AM PST -
It was originally scheduled to ship on October 31st with a delivery on November 7th.

Hi ya!

First of all: I'm Italian so please excuse my English :p

I'm completely new to Apple Macs, but as I was planning to migrate since very long, I finally found the money to buy myself a nice new MBP 17". You might think I'm crazy, I know, because the laptop I'm going to buy is a professional machine I don't really need (I'm a 22 years old common student ) but this has been a dream to me for so long and I now wish it to become true (I guess many of you will understand me).

Anyhow, I'm completely new to Mac Os also, so you will probably read me very often asking for help on these pages

I'm planing to buy the machine around the 13th of November, but I have tremendous doubts: I'm afraid it is too soon. Look, I've been reading a lot about noisy fans, hot processors, flashing keyboards and much else and for old MBPs I don't want to buy a machine I need to send for repair after two weeks I received it because as I told you I'm looking forward to forget about PC's

So please, can you tell me if someone already experienced small problems with their new core duo 2 base MBP? I already had bad experience with my present laptop: It brooked after a month and I had to send it back to the assistance, I haven't seen it for weeks... Now it still has a quite noisy fan and the wifi is very week.

Can you give me some infos? Thx!!!

please let me know! I'm a bit new to forums and I find it difficult to track the informations I'm looking for, especially because of the language. Is it maybe even to soon to talk about HW any defects by the new MBPs? Thx

Ok, I'm starting to get a little frustrated.

I figured since I had 2 Apple Stores very close by, it'd make sense to just wait till the computers hit the store and pick one (15"/2.33/2GB/120GB/glossy) up. I called 5 min after the announcement Tuesday to put one on hold and the best info I'm getting now is "hopefully sometime this week". Had I ordered it online at the same time I'd probably be very close to having it by now. I had heard the edu discount slowed things down on online orders...has anyone received theirs that placed it with the edu discount yet?

I'm starting to wonder if I should just place an order now online or continue waiting for the store...at least then I'd have a tracking number to give me an idea when to expect it. :(

I have a question that I've asked three times here and have still not recieved a good suggestion, so I'll ask one more time.

Does anyone know of any good links for comprehensive prepping of a new MBP for optimum performance for both windows and osx? I'm talking about things like partitioning, power conditioning, account setup, etc?

For instance, I learned recently something that I never knew, that you shouldn't use your administrator account for your primary account. I never knew this perviously.

Any good links for prepping a MPB for optimum long term performance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Wireless Mighty Mouse

My question is concerning the mouse in your photograph. Are you using Logitech wireless with your MBP? If so could you or anyone else explain the pros and cons of Mac's "Mighty Mouse bluetooth". I started to order this mouse with my MBP but now have reservations due in part to certain articles I've read.

I've got both a wireless MM and a wired version. I bought the wireless one with the MBP and thought I'd consign the wired one to the other lappie.

Couple of things you need to know. Firstly, the MM is quite Mac oriented. It's excellent once you set it up to the application switcher as the 'centre' button. I find it quite comfortable to use and I *really* like the track ball. I think it's even better than the MS wheel mice (which are about the best thing to come from MS).

The other feature on the wireless mouse - which is amazing - is the off switch/lens cover. Brilliant!

There are two down sides to the MM:
- The right-click is a PITA. It's just not reliable enough and I often find myself *still* having to use <ctl>+<click> to ensure I get a right click. IMHO it should have a right button - I know it's not art, but there you have it.
- The wireless mouse is less sensitive than the wired version. I find it's just not as accurate and the scroll isn't as good. This is why I've swiched back to using the wired version when in the office, and the wireless for on the road.

Put it this way; if you're buying the MBP, you'll need the mouse to look the part!

Wahoo!! Status Update

It made it Stateside!!

the reason you are not getting answers is because its off topic. i would suggest you start a new thread - you will definitely get more responses that way.

Why should you not use an admin account as your primary account? You have to sudo to get root privileges anyway by default.

I really don't think you need to really do anything special, just use the damn thing.

I've been told the system runs smoother if the admin account is used only for administrative and maintanence tasks and that you create a secondary account with maximum priviledges. Something to that effect.

Am I wrong?

I ordered mine on Tuesday with the education discount and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow. Since it's been sitting about an hour away since Saturday I'm sure the delivery estimate is correct.

For all those people worried about missing a delivery, why don't you just do the pre-sign thing that Apple offers in your order status? Just gotta print it, sign it, plop it on door and they'll leave it for ya.

I have the feeling that I'll get my Macbook way before November 21... we'll see though. Guess the 17" pros are the last to ship out.
