To summaries the different hard drives:

* Fujitsu MHW2120BH 120GB LMR
* Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00 120GB PMR
* Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00 160 GB PMR
* (Fujitsu MHV220BT 200GB LMR)
* Toshiba MK2035GSS 200GB PMR

Seems like the Hitachi 120GB is stock now, only the earliest ones had Fujitsu drives. And I cant seem to find anyone with a Fujitsu 200 GB hard drive, only mentions of Tostiba 200 GB.

Now, lets hope one of Leopard's secrets is a feature to take advantage of the new hybrid drives that is just around the corner.

Lose The Fujitsu 200 LMR Listing • Too Fat To Fit

I would say the Fujitsu 200 is not likely because it is fatter than 9.5mm and therefore probably doesn't fit in a MBP.

Toshiba MK2035GSS 200GB PMR is the bees' knees. :p

For the young: that's a reference to a phrase used in the 1920's to mean "The Bomb" or "Phat".

Hope you're right about the Fujitsu 120 LMR being already discontinued.

I really doubt Brian would have given him permission to lift all of the content like that. At least he didn't remove his name or e-mail address to pass it off as his own stuff, but still.

Ok..I went and read it again. The page says its "A Macbook Pro Review", not "My Macbook Pro Review" so I guess it's still honest.

First of all...glad to be here (first-time poster)! Made the jump today; picked up my very first Mac....this wonderful MacBook Pro 2.33 15", 120GB, matte screen. Just got it this afternoon at the Apple Store in Brea, CA. They didn't have any when I called this morning; they received a rather large shipment just a little later, so I decided to grab one of these beauties while the grabbin' was good...

Mine has the Fujitsu drive. Don't know how early of a model it is, frankly...but they did just receive these at the shop today.

It's all good, tho...I'm just astounded by the snappiness of this little beast. Very happy camper here!

dunno, i'm hoping it will be fixed in an os update. If not, oh well, i can put up with it :)

Apple will fix this in an upcoming update, you can count on it...

The AppleSupport/AppleGeniuses/AppleCare people will have had enough of people complaining about it soon that there will be an outcry for an update from the Apple staff :p

We can probably expect this update to come in a few weeks, they'll probably wait until a few more bugs show up, and nail them all at the same time.

Cheers!

I've been keeping up with this thread pretty well, but it seems that at some point the general consensus switched from "at 4200 RPM the 200gb will be slower" to "because it's PRM and higher density, it'll be faster/as fast as the 160." How did that happen? I've been leaning towards the 160 because I didn't want to see a slowdown, but if I won't I'd love to get the extra 40gb.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Are you sure they've switched to Hitachi PMR drives now at the 120GB level or Fujitsu is still the stock?.

Way back a 200GB Toshiba owner reported it's fast and captures DV with no drop outs. Read all about it here.

I found the report from Tat on Page 75 Post #1853:
There were some rumors that Apple uses those two 200GB HDDs so I didn't get surprised or confused.
maybe I'm lucky to have Toshiba's 200GB HDD without specifying it clearly.

I recommend this disk to those who want both capacity and long battery life. I guess the performance of this disk is OK as I captured and edited DV on my C2D MBP with no dropped frames so far.

Does this seem accurate to other people besides the one guy though? Are there any other reports? I currently have a 4200 RPM drive in my 1.25 G4 PB, so I guess whatever I get will be faster anyway.

Do you see the effects of RPM differences mostly when accessing big files, or larger numbers of small files?

ETA: I posted before you edited, Multimedia. Thanks for finding that original post for me, it's appreciated.

I noticed he's deleting all the 'unfavorable' comments left by people from here telling everyone he's a thieving fake.

Guess i'll have keep leaving comments then... :rolleyes:

my order says -- Shipped on Nov 4, 2006 via FEDERAL EXPRESS --
guess who's gonna get his mbpro soon :D

What did you order, and when did you order it?

I placed an order for a stock 17" MBP at 9:40am PDT on release day (Oct 24). If yours has shipped and you ordered anything near what I did near when mine did, then there's still hope yet.

All I know is my apple rep got an email from me this morning, hopefully he can sort things out.

Ive seen people post that they have gotten 3GB machine but not with the 160HD, and Ive seen people post the 160HD but not 3GB so maybe its the combo, I really have no clue. The fact that they charged me for the Applecare so I cant cancel now and buy locally if I wanted really irks me as well.

Smueboy have you gotten any notification like this? you were also an edu purchase.

I just got the same exact email - ship date went from Nov 3. to Nov 29... This is BS, I'm calling apple to see what is going on.
