According of the log report, the AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext is not loaded (active).
Reset the SMC and PRAM, and check again. Maybe, the old cache was the problem now.

Hi all

I've been having kernel panics on my mid-2010 MBP for some time now. I took it in to a repair shop to get fixed (twice). The first time they changed the GPU and that seemed to solve the problem for a few weeks, then it returned. I took it back and they reballed the VRAM which solved the problem again for only a few weeks until the problem returned. I initially told them about reports it's the tantalum capacitor after watching Lousi Rossman's video and they said this model doesn't use tantalum capacitors???

So now they've ordered new VRAM modules to install as they think that will likely be the problem as there is nothing else that could really be causing it, but I'm not convinced. I'm wondering if there are any workshops in London that might be able to help. I don't feel comfortable attempting to do any component work myself as others have done here but would like to know if any reputable workshops do.

Also, I don't really want to mess around with Kext editors as I'd rather just try and get the hardware fixed.

Cheers

D

Hello guys, sorry to bothering you, but still a lot of kernel panics

Done reset SMC and PRAM/NVRAM, same result, kernel panic again, I attach a file with the report.

So, system profile say that the kext is loaded, (see pict)
SIP is disable according to terminal;
$ csrutil status
System Integrity Protection status: disabled.

is there any other way to confirm that it is active?

Thanks in advance

And most strange, even with SIP enable ( seems that is reenable by default after NVRAM reset) the kext is reported as loaded in system profiler:

Thank You Everybody specially Roberto, Bruno and others contributors.

Maybe you can try to find students : i read in this topic someone who reached an electronic's school and they did the job for free. A friend of me did it tonight with a simple solder iron, nothing really difficult, and my Mac is working fine even with an external display.Good luck and do not desesperate....
When i called genius or apple specialist they said "Nobody will do that".

Well, I have to chime here.
As I missed the replace program, I ended up with a 820-2850 board using gfx and intel only.
After a year struggling to boot it and change the gpu to intel, a week ago I could not eve boot anymore.
So.. what to do? Why not to change the crap C9560?
Found an old thinkpad board, got the 330 micro cap, opened space on my logic board and voilla!
It werks again!!! Using the nvidia gpu!!

Awesome stuff!

I struggled a lot to get to the Terminal app in Recovery mode because of that stupid "Language chooser" bug.
Had it both when booting in Recovery or from a Sierra USB stick, but after around 10 attempts I could finally launch Terminal and disable CSR.
Patching the kext was then easy as I do that a lot on my Hackintosh :)

My wife doesn't really need much GPU power so the software fix is sufficient for now. Hopefully it lasts long enough so I don't have to change the cap.

I ran the Cinebench benchmark again (before patching, it failed) and it completed at 10.5 and 11 fps this time.

Talking about replacing the cap, how hard is it to desolder/solder an SMC cap with a standard soldering iron?
I have not issue soldering classic stuff but never attempted the operation on SMCs.

Cheers

Is not if you make a solder on a audio jack or something like that...the cap is 4mm....it's small and you have to know exactly WHAT you are doing about the heat of your solder iron. The friend who repaired my MPB use to make electronics very often...Try to find somebody a little bit crazy about electronics for this job and he will say to you that's just "bricolage"...personnally, I'd never have tested to do this exercise by myself. It is f****** small.

Interesting.
Something's very wrong in your system. :(
Look this (your report above): The AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext is not loaded. This is the KP problem.

loaded kexts:
com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch 92
com.apple.driver.AudioAUUC 1.70
com.apple.driver.AppleHWSensor 1.9.5d0
com.apple.driver.AGPM 110.23.14

com.apple.driver.AppleMikeyHIDDriver 127
com.apple.driver.AppleMikeyDriver 278.56
com.apple.driver.pmtelemetry 1

Thunderbolt Bus:

Just wondering, It is this "com.apple.driver.AGPM 110.23.14" the ID corresponding to the appleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext ?

still trying!

    это не проблема с исправлением.
    Можно удалить с: в багажнике одного пользователя, введите следующую команду: RM -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext
    после того, как тип: выход

    У меня так же SOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Sorry, i'm confused.
I'll try help you, or, I think.

If your capacitor replacement did not work... the capacitor is wrong, or a bad soldering... and, make a good clean in the soldering point and around.

And, if you're using the edited kext after replaced the cap, remove it. Read post 95, there has de command (requeriment is the SIP disabled).

Reset the SMC, this is important.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Hi
I have disabled the SIP, put the kext modified by FabioRoberto and reset the SMc, but my MAC still reboot and this is the logfile. What can I do?
ps. If someone know someone to change the CAP in Rome please tell me.

Fabioberto, confused about this, isn't "com.apple.driver.AGPM 110.23.7" the identifier for the AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext?, it is present on Paolo's list as well as mines.

How we can verify that the kext is or not loaded?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, i'm confused.
I'll try help you, or, I think.

If your capacitor replacement did not work... the capacitor is wrong, or a bad soldering... and, make a good clean in the soldering point and around.

And, if you're using the edited kext after replaced the cap, remove it. Read post 95, there has de command (requeriment is the SIP disabled).

Reset the SMC, this is important.

yes, is the identifier, but, the binary can control other things, like the internal gpu. If the panic happened like above, the binary is not controlling the throttling state of the discrete gpu. So, the problem is it. Simple. This macbook model has a problem with the pp1v framebuffer voltage regulator when the cap is bad, the lower voltage (1.05v) working great btw 3 to 2 g-states, if g-state jump to 1 or 0 the AGPM is not blocking this states. If not blocking, the values loaded is not working. And always, always, if the values is wrong or incomatibles the SMC will do the work..KP happen.
Or, as I said, the kext will not work when the external monitor is connected, also.
Remember, the option automatic graphics switching selected always.

Replaced C9560 with EEFCX0D331R on my 820-2850A and the panic has been solved.
I used soldering iron to replace it, since my cheap hot air gun damaged in the middle of the work.
Can someone recommend affordable hot air gun for SMD reflow which can be trusted?

I replaced the capacitor really do not know what.It worked for 5 minutes and turned off. Writes an error to the CPU .kext was Installed the drive with Mac OS 10.6 but in the middle it is discarded. I was told that either the drive, the Mac OS is damaged or the drive PDM

why have I only just found this thread! please can someone help me with my MacBook I think this is the problem... :(

Hi,

Well, after years i found a solution. I have the famous MacBook Pro 6,2 with GT330m (
0x0a29 model).

I discovered that this problem happens every time that g-state change between 2 to 0.

G-States go from 0 to 3, are related to the thresholds inside AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext, like this:

G-state 0 (maximum speed) and G-state 3 (lowest speed).

I solved the problem by keeping it always at G-State 2 (medium speed).

And the performance? Exemple: Cinebench, default (G-state 0) i've about 15fps, with g-state 2 (medium speed): 10fps.). Not bad.

If you want to try, these are the values changed in the info.plist:

<key>MacBookPro6,2</key>

<dict>

<key>LogControl</key>

<integer>1</integer>

<key>Vendor10deDevice0a29</key>

<dict>

<key>BoostPState</key>

<array>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

</array>

<key>BoostTime</key>

<array>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

<integer>2</integer>

</array>

<key>Heuristic</key>

<dict>

<key>ID</key>

<integer>0</integer>

<key>IdleInterval</key>

<integer>10</integer>

<key>SensorOption</key>

<integer>1</integer>

<key>SensorSampleRate</key>

<integer>10000</integer>

<key>TargetCount</key>

<integer>1</integer>

<key>Threshold_High</key>

<array>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>100</integer>

<integer>200</integer>

</array>

<key>Threshold_High_v</key>

<array>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>98</integer>

<integer>200</integer>

</array>

<key>Threshold_Low</key>

<array>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>200</integer>

</array>

<key>Threshold_Low_v</key>

<array>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>0</integer>

<integer>4</integer>

<integer>200</integer>

</array>

</dict>

<key>control-id</key>

<integer>17</integer>

</dict>

Perfect values? I do not know, but it is working for me.

Step by step:

1 - Verify that the file is the original and this loaded:

  • ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext (IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext)
  • AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext

2 - Disable SIP (boot into recovery mode, terminal: csrutil disable)
Avaliable only in OS X El Capitan or later. Previous OS X versions, jump to next step.

3 - Open Extensions folder (System/Library/Extensions), copy AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext to desktop (or other folder), open the info.plist into editor (I used the PlistEdit Pro.app), and change the values like writing up.

Attention: verify if your model is 0x0a29 really.

4 - Save info.plist, quit editor.

5 - Use Kext Drop.app to instal this kext, but before, delete the AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext into extensions folder.

6 - (This is important step) Leave the automatic graphics switching select (System Preferences - Energy Saver), if you are using gfxCardStatus.app, same thing!.

After, reboot normally.

Remember, the option automatic graphics switching selected always.

7 - Open Console.app, type into search: gfx0 and check if g-state changes if working!

Good luck. I hope this helps you
(sorry my bad english)

I'm using Fabioroberto's modified kext for 10.10.5.

Edit - got it to load eventually, and it works! Thank you fabioroberto and others! Will be replacing that capacitor also.

I will eventually replace the capacitor in question. Does anybody have a source in Europe to buy it?
(same size as original)
Thanks in advance.
