I used the Panasonic EEFLT0D331R.

Hmm, that's an aluminum polymer... should be good... I only ask because I did mine with a ceramic capacitor (twice actually) and both times the kernel panics returned within two weeks. Then I used an aluminum and now it's good.

Hi, thank you to all for the forum.
Help me: I have a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010 with 8Gb Ram and SSD 525Gb, installed High Sierra 10.13.1.
I can't install upgrade High Sierra 10.13.2 because after install new version of MacOs I have 7-8 Kernel Panic on startup with final Panic Medic Boot related to AppleGraphicsPowerManagment.kext. I haven't this problem with 10.13.1. I think Apple, in 10.13.2 insert in new SO any control to kext of third part developer. I try to add, in System Preference "Security & Privacy" autorizathion for the AppleGPManag kext but nothing, to next startup I have the same problem of kernel panic.
Do you have solution for my problem.
Thanks to all.

Hi,

check the SIP status : in Terminal, enter : csrutil status
Then hit Enter.

What is the answer ?

Yes, you are right. The status was ENABLED. It's strange because I disable SIP protection month ago. But You think was this my problem?
Now I can try to upgrade the system without kernel panics?
Thank you for the help

The SIP must be disabled otherwise the edited kext can't be loaded. This was your problem.

Disable the SIP : boot from the Recovery partition (Cmd + r on boot)
Menu bar / Utilities / Terminal : type in : csrutil disable, hit Enter
Reboot.

The edited kext will be loaded normally.

When you upgrade the OS the SIP will likely be enabled again, so you will need to disable it again.

No way. I tried after disabling the SIP to reinstall 10.13.2 but already in the installation phase (with the progress and the apple) I had several kernel panics. Then once the installation of "Panic Media Boot" message ended and although it enabled the extensions listed as unrecognized at the next restart again kernel panic at boot. The only way for me to have no errors is to go back to version 10.13.1

Hi, I've been following this thread without registering for a while now to see what the outcomes for people are. I've only signed up for this fault. I'm not a mac expert atall so am not too sure on what I'm doing but I am more then capable of carrying out software fixes etc.

The problem I have been getting is that I mainly use my macbook to DJ and when I finish and try to close traktor, it crashes. Also had the issue when I've go onto a browser and site that has video ads. I've got gfx installed and use that but the fault has progressively got worse.

So two things before I go for a capacitor I am willing to try a software fix.......will I need to do a backup before doing the fix in this thread?

Also if the problem is really hardware based and the patch is only temporary........is there anyone in the UK who can carryout the capacitor fix? Preferably near London.

Thanks for the help!

In my tests, it's working.

I do not understand what my problem may be then. I tried both the Mbpmid2010GPU-Fix patch, and using Kext-Drop to enable the modified kext. Every time I update the system from 10.13.1 to 10.13.2 already during the update installation, the system gives me some kernel-panic. The problem is just the patch because trying to eliminate it and installing the system so the problem does not happen.

(It should be noted that I used the GPU Fix utility program to solve my machine)
Because it's a hardware problem. The voltage that floats and the capacitor with problem does not work properly. The kext will be invoked only after the "wake up" hardware.
The Panic happens most frequently after a longer sleep time, because the tantalum capacitor is cold. If "wake up" when the board is still hot, the probability of the Panic happening decreases.

SOLVED!
Eventually the kext that was causing problems on my system startup was a kext of "Lilu", which was deleted from the System/Library/Extensions folder and everything was back to normal. Thank you all for the support

After helping myself with gfxCardStatus for a while and nearing the point of shelving my Macbook, I applied fabioroberto / Julian Poidevins' fix (https://github.com/julian-poidevin/MBPMid2010_GPUFix/releases/latest) and it has been working like a charm. Not a single panic since, even though my cinema display is hooked up 80% of the time. I did learn you have to re-apply the fix even after minor OS updates but currently on High Sierra 10.13.2 and no issues.

I'll stick with this instead of opening the hood. It won't be long before Apple will tell us no more OS updates for your old workhorse, when that moment comes I think I'll invest in a new Macbook (hopefully we'll see some truly great ones again in the near future).

I just did the kext fix. My computer's macOS works without the fix, but sometimes it goes through the panic reboot. I stopped using the Mac side and installed windows 10. I never had an issue, but I missed using my Mac side. After all, it is a MacBook. It came with mountain lion and that OS worked fine with a very limited amount of panics. Then, I upgraded to Sierra. Even when I downgraded back to mountain lion, I still had the issues Sierra brought forth, and I couldn't use any new apps because my OS was too old. Anyway, my point is to provide additional information and to show that an alternative is using bootcamp as a temporary solution since it has 0 issues, for me at least.

Also, I would like to know why I never have any issues using bootcamp windows 10? And one additional piece of information. I just never let my computer sleep to avoid wake up issue.
