I replaced the capacitor when my machine was running Sierra with no video artifacts after replacement.

To test for any problems, I ran the Cinebench OpegGL test as follows:

  1. installed a fresh copy of Sierra;
  2. upgraded to High Sierra from Sierra; and
  3. clean install of High Sierra.
There was no problem with Cinebench and I don't recall any video artifacts when switching from Intel to nVidia and back to Intel.

Thank you :)

Ok, if you did a clean install too, maybe it isn't an high sierra issue.
Now I just need to test if it isn't the switchresx and the custom resolution, to consider change the capacitor again

Hi,

I edited my post to make it a bit clearer.

You removed the software? Did you try testing with the Cinebench r15 OpenGL test?

I haven't uninstalled it yet. My macbook dropped to the floor and it hides half of top bar without custom resolution.
I didn't make stress tests because I don't want to lost this laptop now (waiting for 2018 models).

That test shows the problems?

If you can successfully run Cinebench r15 OpenGL test without the software patch, that's a good sign.

Runs well

The problem isn't artifacts. Just a soft blink sometimes, maybe it's normal and some people don't see

Well, the Cinebench runs, but with very low fps. Maybe just because it's an old mac.

It's an old laptop, maybe that blinking is normal :(

I asked to @stewy if he soldered well and used good solder.

I'll be waiting for 10.13.1 too

I don't have the 2010 MBP anymore because a friend bought it from me. The FPS without the replacement capacitor and with the software patch was about 10. Without the patch, Sierra, and new capacitor, Cinebench score was about 15-16.

Hi, lapinus

i'll try explain just a little bit better

I believe that you are using the latest combo 10.11.6, ok? If not, please install last combo (10.11.6). Why this? Because you said that you do not have good knowledge to edit system files. And.. so we are sure that the system is ok.

After, please, boot into Recovery Mode. How? Simple:

1 Reboot your Mac into Recovery Mode by restarting your computer and holding down Command+R until the Apple logo appears on your screen.

2 Click Utilities > Terminal.

3 In the Terminal window, type in: csrutil disable and press Enter.

4 Restart your Mac.

Ok, now you are into OSX again.

Please, if possible, search and download a app called: Kext Drop. (this is not marketing, okay?) Only to facilitate the process.

Download my AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext (already edited) here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35721057/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext.zip

Open Kext Drop and drag .kext inside. Press install.

Attention, this .kext only works if the system is upgraded to 10.11.6.

(But the “hack” manual in .plist can be done in other versions of OSX)

Reboot.

To check, open Console app (type in the spotlight), and search for: GFX0

Like this:

Test if this ok and free GPU Panic.

Hi there i have recently started having this issue and i realize i slightly behind on the post date but oh well. any ways i have 10.12.6 and wanted to try your fix but the dropbox no longer exists. any help??

?

What model is your mac exactly ?

/About this Mac
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Macintosh HD
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

i know mine is 2012 not 2010 but with the updates that shouldn't matter right?

The first thing the app does is to check that your Macbook is a Mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro (model 6,2).

If it's not the app quits, as expected.

The fabioroberto kext is suited for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphic chip, and nothing else.

damn. K do you know any that work with the mid 2012?

I repaired my 2010 MacBook 15" kernal panic GPU issue by replacing a 330uf capacitor. The same problem may exist on 2009 models as well.

Pessoal do Brasil, alguém poderia indicar-me um modelo de máquina de solda para comprar (mercado livre ou afins ?) levamos em dois lugares e não quiseram fazer a “raspagem” e vamos fazer em casa mesmo !

Personal from Brazil, could someone please tell me a model of welding machine to buy (free market or the like?) We took in two places and did not want to do the "scraping" and we will do at home even!

Vou te enviar uma MP.

Does anyone know where I can have the capacitor replaced in the UK (preferably Yorkshire area) my electronics skills are somewhat lacking. This problem has been frustrating me for about 2 years, gfxcard status didn't help, I'm going to try the patch for now and see how I get on.

I don't do anything to intensive on the laptop these days as it's just my machine for watching netflix on whilst I'm working on the the imac but I'd love to keep it running for a while longer.

Thanks
Scott
