I noticed the screen on my first 11" iPad Pro 512 GB seemed fuzzy, but I couldn't place it specifically. I blamed True Tone - coming from a 2018 iPP that's all I could reference. Now that this thread is here maybe it was similar. However, I was far more concerned with the large and weird swirl/squiggle stain on the back of the device from either a cleaning product or something in the finishing process. I was not keeping that so I just came back from exchanging. I absolutely notice a difference in the screen on the one I have now - a much crisper display.

I spent a long time with the nano display in my local Apple Store. The text was noticeably less crisp, the colours more muted and the blacks slightly washed out. However… i think a huge contributing factor to people’s perception of the nano-display (and any display for that mattter) is to do with perception. We all see slightly different things I guess.

For sure. To me, it’s absolutely perfect. I hate the glare that is on their iPads and MacBooks and to me it’s absolutely wonderful to be able to block it with a screen like this that looks so wonderful.

My 11” has it. I’ll bet it can be fixed via a software update like the HDR issue.

I have the Nano display and even it’s not the slightest bit grainy. I don’t know why anyone would want anything other than the Nano display, its spectacular.

I've got a nano on order. I love my nano ASD, and don't see the loss of sharpness compared to the non-nano ASD. I mean if I stare at it back and forth I can convince myself there's a difference, but at normal viewing distances I don't see anything.

The washed out blacks and desaturated colors shouldn't be an issue in a dark room, I'd expect. I think they'll both look equally contrasty with no ambient light. It's just a difference in how they handle reflections off the screen-- one is diffuse, one is specular.

I was going to wait to see them in store to compare, but then thinking about the above decided that in store with bright lights and often a lot of window light only shows one environment-- you can see how it handles the ambient light, but not a darker room.

After seeing it on the iPad I desperately wish I would have gotten the Nano display on my Pro Display XDR. It would have been worth the additional cost.

Just got my 11” and it’s not grainy at all. It’s fantastic in every respect that I can tell.

The true blacks are amazing. It’s just what I wanted to watch cartoons on 😆

Get in a dark room, enable dark mode, set brightness around 40%, then open up battery in settings and see if you can notice it with the graphs, etc.

Not seeing anything resembling graininess doing that…

no, I haven’t seen any. I am also using 11“.

How’d you pull off getting that Nano display? I thought they weren’t going to be available for a couple months?

Haven’t had any display issues. I did have issues pairing Apple Pencil Pro, though. Would go through the animation, then wouldn’t wrk in action. Did some toggling ad after 15 minutes started working.

Sounds like there are kinks to be worked out!

I’m have this too- hard to unsee once you see it. Everything looks a bit “noisy”, especially darker background colors. I have the 13 inch, regular display (not nano texture). You could see the grain remain stable in the background as you scroll, very strange phenomenon.

Saw on a reddit thread about this that it’s called Mura and it could be a common issue with OLED displays. A bit frustrating though that only some of these iPads seem to have this issue…

I’m guessing they are all the same just some of us can’t see it as easily as others or don’t know what to look for. Hopefully some can compare 2 side by side.

OP may I ask if you have tried looking at your iPad in lighting as strong as it was in the Apple Store? Probably even under bright daylight. I suspect the rather bright lighting in the retail stores “helped” showing this issue where a normal indoor environment of which the iPads are usually used in are typically much dimmer.

I’ve tried all kinds of lighting and light vs dark mode up close etc I just don’t see it. I’m not even certain what I thought I saw in the Apple Store was the same issue. Could have been my imagination. Take this all with a grain of salt.

Thank you.

At least now we can be certain your unit exhibits absolutely no such issue even after you looking for it.
