When family members that use Android and I text each other pictures they all come through just fine on either end. The only thing that doesn’t are videos.
I didn't say they don't come through. The files lose quality. The maximum file size for SMS attachments is 3 MB. Most of the photos I send are higher than this. So I can't send or receive the original quality image with anyone on Android if they're using SMS. Videos are almost impossible to send. It's definitely an issue unless they're using a third-party app.

As someone who was a victim of blue bubble/FaceTime bullying by a family member. It makes my dislike for Apple even stronger and possibly not want another Apple product again. (Even though I own an iPad.) Saying "Grow up and get an iPhone" says more about YOU than me. Why should I cave to someones demands? It's MY choice, not YOURS!
If you really want me to get an iPhone, then YOU should buy it for me, just for the color of a text bubble! LOL!
Thankfully, her partner forced her to download WhatsApp and we communicate on there fine!

Ah ok, ours come though at what seems like the original quality so I doubt we are sending anything over 3mb to begin with.

The experience of Android users on iMessages is annoying because Apple built it this way on purpose. It is absolutely possible to have enhanced features parity for Android users, and this would also greatly improve the experience of iPhone users having to deal with them. This is something that many users on this forum don't want to understand: improving the communication between Android and iPhones is not only a win for Android users.

Fact is, Android is not going away, and it's ludicrous to blame the end user for a terrible messaging experience that is entirely controlled by Google and Apple. Google wants to play ball, and Apple ignores the calls for now. Apple is wrong on this one. I would never move to Android, but I still have a messaging app that s*cks whenever I'm talking to a green bubble (which is quite often in my case).

I don't defend Google at all. I defend my own iPhone user experience. Downvote this comment as you want.

Time to grow up and get an iPhone. The majority of Americans use iPhones, and I will not participate in certain group texts and such with friends and family if there is someone in it using Android because the experience is just too annoying, or I'll start a new group without the Android user.

I assume you're just trolling and not being serious lol

Apple really needs to implement RCS.

Don’t use Apple if you don’t trust them. I don’t use google maps or search. I never text SSN or any confidential information. It goes in an encrypted password protected file in secured email. And ofcourse file and email has to be deleted. It’s careless to text SSN, I don’t care what device, what encryption is used.
So you don't trust Apple either then.

I don't trust Google as well, but I use their services, giving them as little info as possible while still being able to use those services.

And I do that on an iPhone.

Who cares? It should be a standard that everyone uses.
Give me a reason. Just because isn't really a compelling argument. Apple is wildly successful, people love iMessage, and non-apple users are jealous for not having blue bubbles. Why specifically should apple embrace that standard. What's in it for apple?

Give me a compelling reason why they shouldn't other than having some kind of strange defense of Apple.

I absolutely hate green bubbles.

If you are international and outside of the US, sure. I get it. Android is a solid OS. Some of the hardware is great. Android can definitely do some things the iPhone can't. And the majority of users outside of the US don't use Apple so the blue bubble argument doesn't matter.

But if you are in the US, come on now.

Tired of your friends ragging on you for green bubbles? Lack of getting dates because women prefer blue bubbles? Are you tired of getting low quality videos in group texts? Not being able to participate with certain functionalities with your friends?

Anyone else? Or do you disagree with me? I am open to feedback.
only on MR this seems to be a problem ... never had an issue, but then again I've been married happily for 25+ years so. not into dating ;)

These discussions come up often enough and I always find it fascinating that people seem to be ok with proprietary systems (at least when it comes to Apple) instead of pushing for open standards. It seems pretty shortsighted to me.

As far as what’s in it for Apple to implement RCS, that is the next step in SMS/MMS and is even encrypted, just like iMessage. It would offer a better experience for their users when communicating with Android users.

Apple claims they care about privacy and security but still defaults to SMS/MMS for non-iOS devices. I don’t know if the average user truly understands the difference between iMessage or SMS/MMS, but instead just sees some messages as blue and some as green. Not necessarily Apple’s problem that the user doesn’t understand that but they’ve done a lot to improve security/privacy on their products so RCS would just be the next thing to do towards that.

I flat out refuse to use any social media owned messaging systems, so it's iMessage and SMS for my android friends. Meh. Not a huge deal.

If google hadn't blown messaging, they might have a real alternative, but that's on them, not Apple to fix. Until then, SMS is just fine for text messaging (and no, I don't care about all the extra fancy features). The only exception is anything sensitive, with is iMessage only for moderate things, or Signal for anything more important.

True.
In a perfect world, however, said service should be 3rd party - and a trusted one this should be. Open Source it should be, ideally decentralized.
Neither Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, X/Twitter, you name it, should be involved, at all.

I know. Just dreaming

The RCS that google is marketing isn't the RCS standard. Zero chance (or reason) for Apple to implement all Google's proprietary extensions.

The way to force RCS support is for it to be mandated by the FCC, and then forced by the carriers. But the big carriers don't want that because its a big cost to implement for no revenue gain for them (and of course, they lose the ability to monitor and monetize the SMS messages).

Yes, but it’s owned my Meta, so it’s worthless hot garbage compared to Signal in terms of privacy. Just look at the difference between the two apps in the “Data Linked To You” sections.
Oh yeah I won't touch it with a 100 foot pole

That’s actually unfair. All the group members need to adjust because of one person is being selfish. You should just tell him to get iPhone. Give him deadline and after that move to chat to iMessage.
Are you arrogating to yourselves the right to tell (that is, issue an instruction, a command, an order,) to someone dictating what phone they should buy, to demand of someone that they purchase a phone that you insist they must obtain, threatening them with exclusion from social groups if they fail to comply?

Setting such conditions on continued access to social communication groups?

What arrant nonsense, utter arrogance and ridiculous presumption.

If such an ultimatum were put to me, I would embrace it, - refuse to purchase such a phone, needless to say - and seek exclusion and expulsion (at warp speed) from the sheer insanity of such demands, thanking the gods whose existence I doubt for the fortune that allowed me such a lucky escape.

So the whole group should compromise their privacy and use, say, WhatsApp, because one guy just doesn’t like Apple?

Group privacy versus the individual agency of the Android owner.

Interesting conundrum. I guess we know where you and your group stands though. I trust you will surrender your own agency so willingly if it is ever required of you.
