Still says the same with/without spaces & quotation marks & different variations. I also tried without a space before cd & without a space. Aslo a without the capital C,
[doublepost=1518828118][/doublepost]Looked at the temp flash folder & it has the space so maybe I should change it
[doublepost=1518828269][/doublepost]No, that didn't work either.

Okay, hang in there!

I re-read your post and I see you made the folder on your desktop. Drag the folder from your desktop to the C: drive in File Explorer. (Open File Explorer, click on "This PC" and you should see C: drive on the right. Drag the folder onto that.)

Something like this:

Well, I did that..........SURPRISE-----SURPRISE-----SURPRISE. It worked. Boot screen & all. Thanks AM, you don't know how much I appreciate your help. I have fought with this for 3-4 days trying to figure out what was wrong. Only took you a few minutes. You & all the tech guys on here are super. I very seldom if ever use Windows, in fact, the Windows for Dummies book was probably dedicated to me.
Again, Thank You Very Much for your time, patience, & expertise.
Cheers

Soo I just tried this, using Mangos instructions on page 4 and the linked files in those instructions and now I seem to be dead in the water (hopefully only temporarily). I reboot and dont get any signal out of any of the ports. Black screen. Cant get into windows or osx. Any ideas? What would be the best way of flashing back to my backup rom?

My specs
Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008)
Windows Pro 7 with sp1 via bootcamp
EVGA 04G-P4-3687-KR (FTW)

Thanks!

Ok false alarm. A bit strange but after about half a dozen reboots i decided to pull the card and put my old card back in. Booted up still not happy... Weird. Ok whatever, put the 680 back in and viola! Boot screens! Not sure why but pulling the card and putting it back in seemed to remedy the problem.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question (I’ve been through the forums but couldn’t find an answer)

Has anyone successfully managed to flash a Palit gtx 680 4gb jetstrem card? I’ve tried florians rom which ended up with jumbled display from boot screens and in sierra + windows 10... put back original rom and all working.

Appreciate any help :) thank you

After scouring the web I located a modded rom file for the 4GB version of the card. It’s obviously the rom from the 2GB Mac card, same one that’s been posted here on Mac Rumors. Version number and date are identical. However it’s been modified to work with the 4GB card. So I flashed my cards, one at a time to be safe, and low and behold I have my beautiful EFI boot screens back. Didn’t really know how much I missed them but so glad to have them back.

At this point there’s only one issue. My stock speeds of 1085MHz GPU & 1150MHz Boost have now dropped to 1006MHz GPU & 1059MHz Boost. These are the stock 2GB reference card values. Boooo….

I spent several hours combing through the hex of the rom in an attempt to locate the errant bits. Although familiar with hacking hex it’s a process that is tedious and can make your head hurt and eyes cross after a few hours. So I took a break and turned to scouring the web again for Nvidia Rom Hacking information. I found on a German web site a wonderful win utility with GUI for editing the clock speeds and several other parameters of the BIOS imbedded in the rom. Kepler BIOS Tweaker v1.25.exe

Here’s what I didn’t know. Will both the BIOS section and EFI section of the rom need edits to restore my clock speeds? I figure probably yes. This was a Windows utility to edit the BIOS so I thought at best I’d have my clock speeds restored in Windows but still have the slower clocks when in OS X.

I did the edit to both cards restoring my clocks to 1085MHz & 1150MHz and wrote the roms back to the cards. Rebooting to windows showed my clocks back to normal. Now booting to OS X was the surprise. The clocks are now back to the higher speeds in OS X as well! So the EFI needs no edit only the BIOS.

These cards are working awesome, full boot screens, full clock speeds & PCI-E 2.0. Just as if you walked in an Apple Store and pulled them off the shelf. (If you could…)

Good Stuff..... Enjoy ! ROM and utilities attached below for the adventurous.

The rom is just as I found it with reference card speeds. But you can tweak it with the included utilities.

Did you use the links posted by Actionable Mango on pg 4 of this thread?

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ll-clock-rates-pci-e-2-0-5gt-s.1603260/page-4

I used Florians ROM for a 4gb card and all four of my ports work, Displayport, HDMI and 2 DVIs. I believe the first release from Dr Stealth had the issue with the DVIs, but the revised version (at least the Florian one) linked by Actionable Mango have been modded further to enable all ports. Good luck

Hello All.... I only stop by this thread every few months. Actionable Mango has taken the bull by the horns and has been doing a wonderful job helping others here. He's obviously a super nice, patient, and helpful person and many of you owe him big thanks.

I'll add, I did not create the ROM I posted I only found it and put together the original instructions and utilities to do the flash and posted them here. I never imagined how many people would benefit from the info and it really blows me away that after 5+ years this thread is still quite active.

Anyway, it's really great to see Actionable Mango and others helping others in this thread. That's what this forum is all about and it's really nice to see it working.

Dave....

As promised, here's the Zotac ROM. Same EFI as before (so all ports working, but no injection in OS X), just built around the stock Zotac ROM file.

hello thank you for share the great work, but i've questions:
what is the difference between "normal 4g version" and "zotac 4g version" please? becaus i flashed my gigabyte and the zotac 4gb card, but only normal version works, tha zotac version did work, after start up with logo, then go black screen before users, on all 4 ports video, what should i do? the flash procedure was perfect finished, but with stealth's feed version, my zotac worked with one dvi lost, that's why i'm here looking for upgraded version. thank you so much.

ActionableMango could probably explain better than I as he has a much better grasp of this whole procedure but "Zotac" is a version of this card. 3rd party vendors like Zotac release these cards with their own tweaks or adjustments. The "normal 4gb version" is referring to the official Nvidia release of the card. There are a bunch of different versions of this card. You might want to search your specific model number on this site to see if anyone else has used it with success or problems. When I bought my card I made sure I bought the exact model number ActionableMango used and mine works perfectly. Your card might not be supported, hopefully that is not the case.

Another thing you can try is booting up your computer and just let it sit with a black screen for a few mins. I remember when I was first reading this thread that some users reported this happening. The screen would go black for a few mins then everything would function properly. Worth a try.

Also, when I flashed my card it did not work properly at first (no boot screen, no users, nothing, just black screen). I pulled the card out put my old one back in (HD5770) then booted up, it too did not work right which was strange. Then I shut it down and put the gtx680 back in and it worked. I dont know why but it worked after I did all that.

Hopefully you can get it resolved with the ROMs that are available as I kind of doubt anyone is still working on this project, it being fairly dated hardware. Good luck

I appreciate the kind comments, but Florian is basically the only one here who really knows his stuff. Well, Netkas too, but he doesn't participate here very much.

what is the difference between "normal 4g version" and "zotac 4g version" please?

The "normal" 4GB version was provided by Florian and it is for most 4GB cards.

The "Zotac" 4GB version was provided by Florian for someone flashing an unusual and specific Zotac card that didn't work with "normal" ROM. I don't know the details, but I included it in the instructions in case some other person with a Zotac card needed it. If it doesn't work with your Gigabyte card, well, that's 100% expected behavior since it isn't a Zotac card.

but only normal version works...what should i do?

Use the normal version.

thank you for your explanation, in fact, I did not flash my gigabyte with Zotac version, I said I've flashed both cards, but with different version rom, so only the Zotac version doesn't work on Zotac carte, but both worked under normal version. but your idea is good to mention the Zotac version is for some special version not all of Zotac 4go, anyway thank you for your great work, even years after we've still benefited from it. that's a knowledge cant get from school.

btw, do we have a way to modify the subvendor name please? if we could modify it on worked rom, that's will be perfect. thank you

I'm just going to remove the link altogether.
  1. That ROM was really only meant for whatever that specific card was, and the person never mentioned which Zotac model he had.
  2. Zotac makes a lot of weird models.
  3. People should just pick confirmed cards or do unconfirmed cards at their own risk. I don't want to imply that there's a good Zotac ROM.

I bought a PC VideoCard (Asus GTX 680 Direct CU II - 4Go). I flashed it using the instructions on page 4. Everything is fine and I can boot with the boot menu. But in High Sierra I don't have any acceleration. I tried with the Web Driver and without the web Driver !

I have a MacPro 3.1.

Does anybody can help me ?

Has anyone been flashing an EVGA GTX 680 while booted under Windows 10? In particular, this video on YouTube...

implies that it is critical that the display driver for the card be disabled before attempting the flash in order to avoid failures. I am puzzled that this step doesn't seem to be mentioned in the current step by step instructions posted here.

Considering a EVGA GTX 680 4GB.
Will this work with Mac Pro 4.1->5.1 and Mojave?

Will I need to solder a new chip?

Which ROM is the most recent?

Somewhere in this thread (earlier posts I think) someone stated that it stopped working with newer versions of OS X?...

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ens-full-clock-rates-pci-e-2-0-5gt-s.1603260/

is a thread claiming to have usable ROM images modified for the 4GB GTX 680 cards. Later in the thread are explicit instructions for flashing. The ROM chips on those are all of the same size apparently so that isn't an issue. Also, the GTX 680 are the go to cards for running patched Mojave on unsupported MacPros since the stock drivers work fine in both High Sierra and Mojave.
