Coming from an avatarless member who has nevertheless been around a while...

Just be patient and make good posts. In time, it will eventually come. I finally got my 'Tar, and I might be the MR record-holder for "Longest Regular before finally cracking 500":

Yup, 4 years, 6 months (and a coupla days).

Well, I for one am happy that your patience has finally paid off! Congrats and nice avatar!

Wow! Look at that member number!

Like golf scores, the lower the number, the more impressive it is, and you are member 1937.

Where do you find a member's member #? Never seen that before, not that I've ever bothered to look... ;)

Hover over your screen name and you will see a number. Mine says 3249

open up a person's profile page, in the URL, the last digits are the member's number.

What does that number mean actually, is that in order of when you sign up or is it a random number.

So Blakespot is the first member listed and the number is 10. So what happened to 1-9

Member numbers are assigned sequentially by the forum software. They are rarely deleted, although a few did end up deleted when these forums were first created. Member numbers are never reused.

I am to blame for a particularly dopey thread about member numbers.

Avatars for Dummies

I think that was a great and well screenshot explanation for how to post your avatar. And not having reached 500 posts I had no reason to look into yet so I had no idea about the pixel and size limitations. But everything else seems pretty straightforward.

So then it naturally begs the question, if you have enough posts to have one, but can't figure out how to use the User CP and edit your own data, do you really deserve to have one. How'd you get online in the first place. Tell me these n00bs know what an ethernet cable is.

And there was I prepared to give you the benefit of doubt... perhaps those two ladies were right after all.

I just received my copy of Photoshop and was playing around with it, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to scale a picture down to 75x75 pixels, or if that's even possible. I did a search on how to make an avatar and just came up with threads about people bitching that they can't get an avatar, which is full of people bitching about people who bitch about not being able to use an avatar. If someone knows anything or can direct me, I would greatly appreciate it.

In photoshop, go to the image drop down menu and select image size. Put 75 in the first field and make sure that you have the constrain proportions option set (should be a toggle button).

That should give you what you need. And if you need to crop it before you resize it, try image->canvas size or the crop tool.

Good luck,

D

Thank you very much...that did the trick. :D 3 hours with this software and I couldn't even figure that out...

You should get a book and spend some time going through it - you'll be surprised what you'll be able to do.

Good luck,

D

W00t! W00t! Just noticed that I just passed the 500 post mark. Time to figure out what I want my 'tar to be. (And wait for it to get enabled.)

Oh, dear... Did I really just type 'W00t'?

I'm at about 2.5 years of membership with just over 200 posts. I'll easily beat your record at my current glacial pace! :p
