repeat the process. I did it originally in 10.13.4 and had to repeat it when I updated to 10.13.5. I assume I will be doing the same when I try 10.13.6

I repeated the process but it doesnt work, even worse all my normal audio output have disapeared

Yes it is.
[doublepost=1531386374][/doublepost]Figured out what I did wrong - all good now!

Could you tell what was wrong - I am willing to upgrade my system soon as well, and do not want to loose HDMI audio option.

I just didn't follow the steps correctly and put the wrong file on my desktop. All works as it should if you follow those steps in 10.13.6

I've got a mid 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 with an RX 560, running 10.13.6. I install HDMIaudio 1.1 as per the OP instructions and it works after one restart, but breaks if I restart again. How do I get it to stay on?

It's really annoying. In most cases DP Audio works on GTX cards, but HDMI doesn't work or work after several display reconnects.

Mine is working on 10.13.6 with Radeon 7970.

I should note that it does not show up on cold start, but only after a warm reboot.

so I had to check this when I got home. I could have sworn I had to remove and reinstall the extension on 10.13.6.....well looks like I did. I will have to check after my next restart/shut down after getting it up and running again. But yes, I too can report that for some reason the extension/audio controller does not seem to be staying installed. This is at least the 3rd time I have had to do it. This issue was not happening on previous OS versions.

Does anyone have any insight or similar experiences?

Has anybody progressed any further with this in Mojave?
I agree with @h9826790 you should file a bug report via the Mojave beta program.

I sadly do not expect Apple to do anything about this but perhaps if enough people do so they might change their mind. (I have been doing this myself via the beta program for each new generation i.e. Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra and so on.)

My only hope at the moment is that when the new Mac Pro 2019 ships if it uses PCI video cards perhaps then Apple will be forced to properly support HDMI audio via PCI cards and this might then benefit classic Mac Pros as well.

Better wait until official release, and at the mean time, keep submitting bug report to Apple and tell them the HDMI / DP audio is not working on our GPU.
Ok, cool. It comes out tomorrow????? So hopefully we'll start getting some feedback.

iOS 12 is expected to be launched tomorrow along with the new iPhones but it is not certain Mojave will be launched at the same time.

Found this interesting from the official Apple forums,(posted by a John Lockwood - a level 6).......
Apple claim Mojave support for Macs "along with 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards." Nowhere have I seen Apple list their 'recommended' Metal-capable cards. As mentioned even a universally agreed best choice of a Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition card was being blocked by Apple in the App store if not in the installer itself. I think this 'effort' by Apple is summed up nicely as below.

It should be noted even once you have installed Mojave Apple are still artificially disabling both HDMI Audio Support and 30-bit aka Deep Color support on the Mac Pro. Both features work in Windows 10 via Boot Camp!

Anyone tried HDMI audio with Mojave?

It's working.

So when I try to update with my 1070 it says it needs a firmware update (updating the firmware does nothing) and when I put my stock card it says metal is not supported. What should I do?

Do NOT update to Mojave with GTX1070. There is no driver for it yet.
