Any word on Graphics acceleration for the GMA X3100? I managed to install Mavericks on my MacBook4,1 (Early 2008) and everything works accept graphics acceleration and sleep. It runs great otherwise. If someone could get graphics acceleration working it would be perfect.

How did you managed to install it? I really need to install mavericks..

You could be up for a (very) long wait, it's only been a tad over 1 year so far...

I'd go back to Lion or MLPF'ed Mountain Lion if I were you.

Yup I am still waiting for x1600 support lol. In the mean time I'm stuck on MLPF

I have the same model MacBook you have and would like to install Mavericks on it. What exactly does graphics acceleration help with, 3D graphics mainly? This model MacBook has problems with overheating and high fan speed, so I removed Flash and have the doc using 2D mode anyway. That has solved the over heating. If I do not need graphics acceleration anyway, I would like to try Mavericks for the 1) memory compression, 2) laptop battery improvements, 3) for the fun of it.

Since ML, OS X increasingly relies on GPU for basic display functions, notwithstanding calls to more advanced OpenGL/OpenCL routines that are not supported by obsolete GPUs such as the GMA950, GMA X3100 or X1600.

As such, running ML and/or Mavericks without graphics acceleration is simply totally useless and something one will quickly abandon; you can trust anyone on that matter. You'd have graphics artefacts all over, like in Safari as soon as you browse a page with some little graphics and you'd never be able to wake your computer from sleep without obtaining a garbled screen and need to reboot. Just forget it.

Graphics acceleration is not just for handling 3D.

Thanks. So, it is really more about graphics period, then graphics acceleration. That is a shame, since those new features of Mavericks I mentioned would be nice to have. Maybe they will get it figured out, but it sounds daunting.

I've posted this aswell but I really need help I'm like despo . I used sfott method to get mavericks on my mac min 2,1 now due to really low memory and slowness I desperately want to downgrade to lion but I don't know how to for instance if I try and restore it says I've got the highest os and I don't think the AppStore will let me download it again but this is how I got mavericks and sfott on my mac I partitioned my drive into to parts one with my os and then sfott and I now can't remove sfott off the partition using disk utility because It would let me I don't know if it would if I went into recovery ?? And I have the original leopard discs but I really don't want to downgrade that low is there anything I can do ??PLEASE HELP :"(

SFOTT does not boot

I've just downloaded 10.9.4 from Apple Store on a supported system, running ML, transferred the whole Install OS X Mavericks.app to the same /Applications location on MacBook4,1 running 10.7.5.

SFOTT successfully completed its task but resulting USB key (also tried 8G disk partition) does not boot. Selecting it after pressing alt/option results in 10.7.5 being booted.

I've read the SFOTT page and it says:

If you download the [10.9.4] Combo from Apple website or via Appstore.

you’ll have to follow the 10.9.2 procedure to repatch the boot.efi

I may be new to all this tricks and even after reading the page many times I haven't been able to figure out what needs to be done and if my case is applicable at all.

SFOTT troubleshooting section says to use internal partition if USB key does not boot but I already tried it.

Any other options?

Hi there! Since many people are saying they have been able to get ML 10.8.5 running on X3100 systems with full graphics acceleration, could anyone please share the 64bit kexts that seem to work well for ML 10.8.5 on x3100.. I'd be really greateful!!
Thanks

It seems that something went wrong while creating the USB-Drive. SFOTT works also with the Installer of 10.9.4 downloaded from Apples App-Store (tested right now). Use a USB-Drive with GUID-Partition and try SFOTT again with the step-by-step mode on the target Mac. SFOTT makes basically the same as the manual steps described in the Guide.txt in the linked "Mac-Pro-Xserve.7z" from Post #914.

I followed manual steps in GUIDE.txt - same result.
Interestingly, the workaround to allow 10.9.x download from Apple Store is not working. Don't know if related to failed boot.

I think you're mistaken (and in the wrong thread). I can't say I've seen "many" claims from people about having achieved 64bit support for that obsolete chip (none in fact). If you want ML with graphics acceleration on X3100 GPU, you need MLPF to run ML in 32bit mode with DP1 kernel and a mix of DP1/10.7.5 kexts and graphics frameworks. The original ML-related MLPF thread remains active in OS X 10.8 forum subsection.

I understand that MLforAll may have achieved 64bit support in MacPostFactor but until it's eventually published, you're limited to 32bit MLPF.

Regarding the 64bit kexts, Google will easily provide you links...

@RV-ABZ: Thanks a lot for the details! There have actually been quite a few people who claimed to have ML10.8 with graphics on GMA series cards running both on this & other threads.. Only now I understand all of them meant ML on PF.. Sadly I'm still running 10.5.8 so to run ML I'd have to buy Lion, & then ML & THEN download Yosemite/Mavericks if in future something comes up with 64bit kexts.. so that's why I was asking around.. Thanks for the reply though!!

i'm sorry, but can you give me a link how to install Mac os Mavericks to my Macbook air 1.1 (early 2008) ?

Installing 10.9 Mavericks on MacBook2,1 MB21.00A5.B07

Hi, hackerwayne.:)

Is it possible to install and use with my macbook so useful mavericks, my board is the Intel GMA 950 integrated "graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory". Because I read that it will not be possible.

I hope, you can help me.

Installing 10.9 Mavericks on MacBook2,1 MB21.00A5.B07:apple:

We'll be downloading it first hand and get it tested out :p - From HackerWayne & MLForAll (MLPostFactor)

What we know so far.

- Won't work with anything that doesn't run Mountain Lion.
- EFI64 only, just like 10.8.
- 64-bit support for older Macs (that currently runs MLPFv0.3) is not going to be easy as many things has changed.

SUCCESS!!! Maverick on old 2006 iMac!! Pics up later.

Got it working on X3100 based MacBooks too. Tons of issues. Bugs and glitches everywhere and graphics doesn't quite work yet. Its gonna be like how MLPF started at first. So be patient. :)
