Again, very useful information.

My burst of questions was sparked by the successful install of Mavericks on my MP1,1. If there's another thread, I'll gladly move over to it. I made a tongue and cheek reference to "as it relates to Mavericks" to hopefully not ignite moderators intervening which I do understand needs to happen at times.

In the mean time, I agree about defying the odds by keeping this solidly built Mac in operation. It's set up to support how I work.

Although getting a MP3 would be an option, it's more $ purchase, and the RAM.

At this point, the plan is to keep the MP1,1 running, and to consider a future Mini or iMac.

All set now.

Cheers!!!

1) Make a backup using Time Machine
2) Boot from a Snow Leopard DVD or USB
3) Wipe the drive with one GUID HFS+ partition using Disk Utility from the Extras menu
4) Install Snow Leopard
5) Restore from Time Machine
6) Run system updates

Happy days again!

Thanks.
There's quite of bit of information in those threads. The challenge for me was to distill the relevant bits to formulate a procedure that worked.

Cheers

The problem is you were given to little information to go by and had to make do yourself.

Instead there is a script that will help you install Mavericks on our vintage Mac Pros.

Its called SFOTT http://oemden.com/?page_id=585

Simple and easy and as Vanilla as possible.

What about the iMac's?

Hi,

There seem to be a lot of good stuff for the MacPro's but no love for our older iMac's.

Any ideas on how to install Mavericks on them as the MacPostfactor seems to be dead?

Thanks in advance to point into the right direction!

You should try SFOTT as noted above, it should work regardless of what Mac your running as the developer originally made it for his Mac Mini.

10.9.4?

How about 10.9.4 on 1,1s? (currently running 10.9.3 + the script that checks/copies boot.efi at startup) Can I install it directly from the App Store?

10.9.4 update anyone?

Ok, 10.9.4 is here - did anyone try to update the current install? Does it require a new boot.efi?

Yes, you have to replace the boot.efi (but only if u use the combo).
Btw, check the creators Twitter feed, we are gonna get the MCPF soon :)

No, I currently run 10.9.3 and was hoping to do the normal update via app store. Does that replace the boot.efi?

Somewhere I read, upgrading 10.9.3 does not replace that, but be prepared, I'm not sure.

lol, not quite actually; more of a call to anyone who could help them fix the windows server crashes...

Well, if someone figures that out, it'll be out soon. I'm gonna have a discussion with MLforAll on the weekend to see what we can do about this.
Got the same results as them, so if we share our experiences, we might find a solution.

Hi All,

Before I go trawling through all the previous posts, does anybody know if it's possible to successfully install mavericks successfully on an early 2008 white macbook?

If so, is there anything that doesn't actually work?

I started to read through because the posts said "Guide" as it's title, but then the first post didn't appear to be a guide after all so I read the first few pages and still didn't see a guide so thought it best to ask.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Celtic.

I've working with multiple Macbook early 2008 (X3100) for Mavericks and Yosemite. I don't want to post a full guide here but I can email you instructions.

That would be hugely appreciated.

I'll PM you my email address now.

Many thanks :)

Hi there, about the OS X 10.9/10.10 on X3100 card based systems, were you able to get the system up & running with graphics acceleration?? I have a vanilla proof of concept install with me, everything except graphics acceleration works.. the only 64bit kexts available for X3100 are officially compatible only with Snow Leopard 10.6.. user: RV-ABZ has been continuously saying it might not be possible to get these older gen cards (GMA 950, 965, X3100 etc) up & running on 64bit since newer OS has shifted to OpenGL framework..
MLforALL's been struggling himself to get it run stable.. could you please send me the 4 graphics kexts if you have it up & running with graphics acceleration.. Thanks!!
