My installation also seems to hang at this message:

"considerRebuild0fPrelinkedKernel com.apple.nke.webcontentfilter triggered rebuild"

Any suggestions?

way out in the sticks
How do I get a legit copy of OSX 10.8 for my MacPro 1,1 since I can't DL it from the AppStore?

If you can use a friend's newer mac that can download 10.8 from the app store, you can sign in and purchase it under your account then use firewire, wireless, or usb stick to transfer the installer file to your mac pro.

So far the only thing that won't work, I receive the following;
Sender;
com.apple.launchd.peruser.501
Message;
([0x0-0xb70b7].com.apple.DVDPlayer[887]) Exited with code: 1

And......
Unable to load the Interface Builder file DockMenu.nib because the object archive is missing. Valid nib files must contain either keyedobjects.nib, objects.nib, or data.nib. Full path: /Applications/DVD Player.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/DockMenu.nib

Actually, a little more info. It works when a real DVD is loaded into the drive and quits when it's ejected.
Ideas anybody?

Trying & will report back

I'm guessing if this works, we'll have a major breakthrough, therefore, a new procedure. As I know it, if we can drop a 32 bit kernel into this OS, (like there was in the Developer Previews), then a great deal of the issues with compatibility with old MacBooks (or other 32 bit Macs) like mine will be solved.

Man, Apple could have A LOT of egg on their faces....

There would still be the lack of OpenGL 4. This is a hardware issue that cannot be fixed.

Need of the second partition

Hi,

Just a quick question (and I apologize if this has been asked before, I couldn't find an answer): is the partition with Lion really necessary? From the guide I understand that its only use is to copy some files to the ML partition before restarting into it. I guess the same can be done from the terminal (i.e., pressing Command+S during the boot) or using a Linux Live CD. Am I right? If so, could I update my Lion installation instead of doing a completely new installation?

Thanks,

José

As some times mentioned before, you shouldn't use this installation of mountain lion as your productive environment. Some things doesn't work and if something goes wrong, you don't have a working system. Also, a new installation of Mountain Lion needs less time than an update of lion (20 mins here from an usb pendrive).
But if you really want to do it, I think it's possible if you're familiar with all the needed terminal commands. Linux Live CD won't work because (as far as i know) you can't mount HFS+ partitions or DMG-images.

I've installed ML on my Macbook2,1 with the Kext files from 10.6.2
I did not get iMessage working but for the most things it works.

I got the following Console message regarding FaceTime;
H2SO4.macpro.private imagent[2870]: [Warning] *** Listener ID: com.apple.FaceTime does not have capability: (Status), not allowing request
..and Messages;
H2SO4.macpro.private imagent[2870]: [Warning] *** Listener ID: com.apple.dock.extra does not have capability: (Chats), not allowing request

...and a few other bits about NSRun Loop, CFRUN Loop etc etc

Just found this too, (must be why Messages and Facetime are having trouble................

<string>2</string>

<key>DefaultButtonLabel</key>
<string>OK</string>

<key>Body</key>
<string>This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account.</string>

<key>ErrorID</key>
<string>ICLOUD_UNSUPPORTED_DEVICE</string>

<key>DialogType</key>
<string>GenericDialog</string>

<key>AlternateButtonLink</key>

Also looking at boot.efi with a text editor, (System/Library/Core Services/boot.efi). Seems it has a list of Macs that are not supported. I wonder if removing the references to our machines would make a difference?

What procedure did you when thru to instal ML on MacPro 1.1 with new gfx card ? Thanks....

I bought the graphics card whilst still running Snow Leopard. Plugged it in, no set up necessary at all.
As for installing ML, the one in post 22 on the first page of this entire thread.

After restoring BaseSystem.dmg to your flash drive, re-hide hidden files using Terminal. You can then attempt to replace the 'Packages' folder as well as merge the respective CoreServices and i386 folders.

Trying & will report back

Looking forward to hearing how this goes.

I gave it a go on my macpro2,1 w/16GB RAM and was able to get beyond the previous kernel panic I reported earlier in this thread. Ended up running into another kernel panic further along in the boot process indicating the appropriate driver could not be located for my system.

Defiantly some fresh hope for users like myself with more than 4GB of ram with a 32bit kernel.

cheers-

Hi, I'm new to all this - so sorry for any misunderstanding. Thanks to the excellent instructions in post #22, I managed to install ML on my MacBook Air Rev A (2008), running an Intel GMA X3100. I can confirm the issues with iWork not running etc. (post # 583).

Now, if I get this right, there are new X3100 drivers for Windows 64-bit around that allow to run Open GL 4: http://is.gd/jgzxo3, http://is.gd/fIJmH4.

Is there any way this can be ported to the Mac platform? (I'm not a geek or a hacker, just a user, so forgive my possibly silly question).

Cheers, Schwarzleser
