Hi folx.

I tried the 2 patched boot.efi from Post #22 on my MacPro 1,1. All works (the sound too ... without any Patch). But not the Gfx-Card. :( I have a flashed HD4890 which works with the Exotic-Gfx-Driver normally.

I can´t see the desktop. My 2 Screens are grey. It detects the 2nd Monitor well ... but no Desktop. Any advice?

I don´t have the problems if I boot with Chameleon.
4890 doesnt support OpenGL 4 for starters.
PartyDolo, I'm not sure, but i think remember that 32 bit efi support remained until the GM was released, so we'll see. Maybe the OP can weigh in, and we'll know. DVD's still dont work in DP 1. Not sure whats up there. Something about not being able to find a valid video device. Launchpad works almost like in Lion on a good system. Youtube doesn't work, however. So we'll have to look into that. So I'll test everything out later.

Just a afterthought, because I'm still learning about the guts of OS X, but is it possible to pull out the features we want from ML, and drop them into Lion. I don't know if this is against the MacRumors policy, but its a thought i've been having.

I have to go work with second graders now. Yay. Ya'll take care.

Apple pulled 32bit support from DP2.

In dp1 wasn´t QE/CI with x3100- so it makes no difference to use GM or dp1-stay with GM.

Did you mean to say that QE and CI don't work on a x3100 machine in DP1? Are you sure about this, because in DP1 the x3100 is still using the complete 32-bit drivers which should support QE while in GM/retail we're stuck using incomplete 64-bit drivers which have limited acceleration capabilities.

3100 works with old drives, but..

If you read my earlier posts, what I did with ML final from app store on the x3100 is to keep the 2 .kext files from 10.6.2 which have the 64 bit requirement, but for the driver and the 2 bundles I took the latest once from 10.7.4
At first I expected a kernel panic, but was surprised to discover that all worked well. So either Apple did not make any changes since 10.6.2, or I successfully managed to use the new 32 bit Lion drivers under 64 bit support.
In short everything in general works ok, but no brightness regulation, sleep is broken, Launchpad works fine just a bit slow. Everything that requires Open GL 4 logically does not work. Flash works in Safari but the computer gets hot really fast. Further more I successfully payed some 1080p videos I had in my drive in .mov format.
So here you go. I doubt however we will get further improvements at this stage. So we managed to reach a lot, but it is not enough to have those MacBooks running all day long on ML. Unfortunately the user experience in Lion at this point is better. That disappointed me quite a bit and I have archived the entire endeavor for future times if at all.

Well Ive done all that I can, so I'll wait it out until we have a workaround, but seriously, folks, what would it take to take Dictation, Notification Center, Notes, and Messages (heck, we can use the beta dmg for that!) and transplant them into Lion? I think it can be done.

That's a shame. Its possible someone will roll around a fix for the brightness/sleep issues, but that still leaves the lofty (impossible?) task of getting the hardware to play nice with OpenGL 4 features. Thanks everyone for your efforts though, but it looks like we're stuck with Lion for everyday use. I just HOPE that Apple doesn't abandon us with their updates until at least next year.

Finally got it done with Chameleon. Stupid question time now.

Is it possible to hack the ML so we don;t use chameleon to boot or is it to late to add any hacks once ML is installed?

eg "Bring up Finder, open Mountain Lion drive and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices and replace PlatformSupport.plist with the one in MountainLionHack folder."

Guys, help me!

I've just installed ML final release. Everything was OK.
After reboot, I've placed hacked PlatformSupport.plist.

Reboot.
Got Desktop and all applications on the Dock are with crossed circle.
When I run any application it says: "You have OS X 10.6. The {Application} needs OS X 10.8".

And one more thing: You all here have "About OS" windows with menu, image of computer, but I have the window like in real 10.6 OS X.

My previous system, where I created usb stick was really 10.6.8. Could any files been written on stick from it?

Help, cuz I have no more working system!
Thanks!

Navigate in Finder to /System/Library/CoreServices and open SystemVersion.plist and change anywhere where it says 10.6.8 to 10.8.

Hope it helped. :apple:

THIS would be interesting! I imagine that some of that functionality is very integrated across the OS but don't see why, for example, apps like Notes should be restricted to macs with advanced graphics cards. Or the ability to save files to iCloud.

Maybe there'll be a 10.7 update with some additional iCloud functions (although I guess maybe not: it's a good way to persuade people to drop perfectly usable macs for an updated model).

32-bit kernel

Anyone has tried the 32bits kernel from here: http://netkas.org/?p=1187 ?

Has anyone gotten this kernel to work? when i do the kernel my system shuts down on me in the boot process. I even tried putting arch=i386 in com.apple.boot.plist and it still panics. I wonder if hackerwayne is having this problem and that is why he hasn't posted recently?

My Macbook 2008 doesn't recognise my USB thumb drive :-(

:D

8. Reboot your Mac and hold down "Option" while booting. Select the thumb drive and hit enter. Once you're at the installation screen, click next till you reach the destination drive, click show all drives and select the 20GB partition you made for Mountain Lion, hit next to install. Once installation is completed system will restart, DO NOT try to boot into Mountain Lion. While restarting, hold down "Option" and boot back into Lion 10.7. Bring up Finder, open Mountain Lion drive and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices and replace PlatformSupport.plist with the one in MountainLionHack folder.

I reboted my Macbook and pressed "option". And my Macbook doesn't recognise my USB thumb drive. :-(
And I rebooted again and pressed "C" and it doesn't recognise my USB thumb drive and started Lion 10.7. :-(

Make sure the drive is formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled)

Also try opening System Preferences and going to Startup Disk and selecting it that way.
