iCloud still an issue

Hi, I have a MacMini (Mid 2007) with GMA950 video. ML is up and running, a little slow in places, but running. I have read every post in this topic relating to iCloud issues. I've tried every fix, but I'm not having any luck. I just keep getting the "This is a valid Apple ID, but not related to an iCloud account" message.

I'm wondering if my problem is Migration Assistant (or not knowing how Migration Assistant works). I have never used it before so I was expecting to be able to check "iCloud Settings" and be done with it. But I soon found out that isn't the case. Is there a particular section I need to migrate to get the iCloud settings transferred? Or is it all or nothing with this?

Thanks in advance

Change your HD to other machine to run this ML , and Jion to iCloud , then back to your MacMini,it's work and can keep iCloud to my Macbook2,1

But iMessage and FaceTime use same , in other machine can login , when back to older MacBook2,1 , Still can't work :( :confused:

Nope sorry, no mach_kernel anywhere.

Apologies for hounding you. But as you are being so helpful, I'm going to try and take advantage of you, (assuming you don't mind the Terminal);

1. The mach_kernel might only show up if you enable hidden files with the below command. Is there one now?
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
Killall Finder
Use this command to hide those files again.
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Killall Finder

2. Do me a very quick favour.
Test DVD Player.app with a virtual disk, (not a real DVD), and see if it works please.

Tks.

I have, this is how I get it back to the initial setup. The problem is in Migration Assistant there is no way to know where the iCloud settings are. I have migrated the user settings, other files & documents, etc. But I can't migrate applications because it's so huge (I only have 40GB for the ML install).

Thanks, I'll give this a shot. The weird thing is I found a Mountain Lion VMWare file yesterday and after installing that it let's me login to iCloud just fine.

Hi Wayne, (or anybody really), while you're on the subject. Can you tell me if mach_kernel exists at /System/Library/CoreServices in your install pls?
....and whether you have two boot.efi files, one in /System/Library/CoreServices, and the other in /usr/standalone/i386?

1. mach_kernel is in the root directory... It has always been as far as I know:
Code:
$ ls -l /mach_kernel
-rw-r--r--@ 1 root  wheel  8192160 25 Ago 09:49 /mach_kernel
2. Yes, there are two boot.efi files in those 2 directories. I think they should be the same files, I can't check now since I am in the hacked ML.

Anyone has upgraded to 10.8.2 on unsupported macs? I would like to know if someone can write a step by step guide about installing it. When I tried to do it (via Apple Store), it show me a stop sign.

Anyone that used Pacifist had done it?

Sorry for my english...

Thanks Mike. The only reason I ask is because of a failed Paralells install that said;

Hey guys, I did some testing today with 10.8.2 and had no luck. It didn't boot after updating from the App Store nor by using the combo update (with or without pacifist). I also tried replacing the platformsupport.plist Incase that got replaced in the update. Still no luck.

I did this on a cloned drive though, so I'm still sitting fine on 10.8.1.

Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there, I would not recommend trying to update to 10.8.2 yet!

Did you get any installer log messages?

Ty, it work on my 2007 macbook!

I would like to know how to remove the Lion partition once the Mountain Lion his installed?:confused:

Keep getting "can't unmount this disk".:eek::mad:

Nevermind, I boot on the Key, and removed it!

Now let's find why BootCamp don't work anymore :)

If you read few posts above you'll see that you must patch the boot.efi again... Also the AppleHDA kext for the audio. Go to post #22, there should be the full instructions.

Hi all,
is there a faster way to instal ML on a 1,1 Mac Pro (running a supported video card; i.e. an ATI 5870)?

I've downloaded and installed ML 10.8.1 from App store on my (late 2008) MacBook after creating an USB thumb drive and I'm wondering to install ML on my Pro from that thumb maybe working on the .plist file to modifiy 1,1 Mac Pro compatibility. Is that possible?

Actually, I just tried again with pacifist and it updated perfectly. No patching or manual moving of files necessary. (Except the audio kext)

10.8.2 works great!

Did Pacifist appear to hang on the same two files during install?

It never hung on any files either time I tried... It just went through pretty seamlessly.

However I've noticed a bug in 10.8.2 after I installed the audio kext from post 22... Audio works, but it's only ever 100% volume or off completely. If the volume is anywhere between 1% and 100%, it plays like it's at 100%. If it's at 0% though it does actually mute the volume. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hmm, I left Pacifist doing its thing and when I came back about an hour later I found the Mac had gone to sleep. It seemed to pick up where it had left off before tho. Soon see anyway, well actually it had been slow since the start. In total Pacifist has been installing for the last 4 hours.

Another funny thing. Even before finishing the install, if I click About this Mac... it says 10.8.2!

Everything appeared to work under 10.8.1

10.8.2 killed it.

Ran 10.8.2 software update, restarted the machine and got the circle with a slash though it.

Tried replacing first the boot.efi files in the CoreServices then the one in the i386 folder. Also tried replacing the PlatformSupport.plist (even though it was not modified by the update)

Still the same circle with a slash through it. Any ideas?

Running on a mac pro 1,1 with an apple 8800gt and 4 gb ram.

Mine didn't exactly go according to plan either. Had to boot from a clone and fix things that way.

I can boot to a different dive and try to repair this ML install, but not sure what i would do to fix it.

What I think I'm going to do though is download the latest version of ML from the app store and make another USB Booter.
I'll modify that as before and install to a spare drive/partition, use migration Assistant to bring the new install up to date and then reclone back to my SSD. Then I'll have 10.8.2 running as a fresh install instead of running the upgrade route. A lot of hassle for maybe not much gain.
