Guys, could you tell me if X3100 supports QE/CI on ML? The first post says it does, but I saw messages in this topic that it doesn't. Who's right?
- Mac Minis with X3100 > Perfect
...
- MacBooks with X3100 > Works, display brightness & sleep issue
- MacBookAir with X3100 > Works, display brightness & sleep issue

Do me a very quick favour.

Tks.

Not feeling the love...

Hmmm, no love here for me on my MacPro 1,1. I have the Radeon 6870, which should work, and I've removed memory so I'm at 8gb. I've performed the process now three entire times, double-and-triple-checking the steps on my MacPro, but every time, when finally booting from the the Mountain Lion installation, I get to a grey screen, there is some further disk activity, and then my system reboots itself. With the 6870 I don't get a boot screen through most of the process, so that doesn't help me trouble-shoot.

However, if I safe-boot, I can get to the desktop and login. I've tried repairing permissions etc.

I feel fairly confident I'm doing the process properly (first time through I did it on an old MacBook and that worked perfectly. Well, as well as can be expected considering the integrated graphics).

Any thoughts? I'm doing the process following the step-by-step guide, and installing to a fresh partition so there is no danger of old stuff screwing up the process.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dead thread?

So, is this thread kinda dead? Should I be looking elsewhere for help resolving issues getting a working copy of ML on a MacPro 1,1? Anyone still working on this project or did it turn out to be more trouble that it's worth? Thanks!

Wow good work, but I think my Mac 1,1 will hit the brick wall at 10.7....as this gives the ultimate excuse to upgrade.

I have stuck on the step 7, please help

Can anybody please help me? I have stuck on the step 7, which says I should: "Open up both ZIP files. You should get a folder called MountainLionHack, and it contains 2 folder, which is CoreServices and i386. On the pen drive, navigate to /System/Library and delete the 3 files shown on the picture above, which are"

The problem is in that I don't have have these files (below) on my pendrive! I did everything mentioned in the guide, but I stuck on this step, so I can't continue. What do I do wrong?

"$boot.efi
$com.apple.recovery.boot
$InstallableMachines.plist
$PlatformSupport.plist"

What am I doing wrong?! :(

Hi all,

I am also missing a file: InstallableMachines.plist

Tried to add it anyway, booth from usb --> prohibited sign
Tried without adding the file, rebooth --> Apple logo followed by prohibited sign

Also can't find the EFI32 file anywhere. Not only is it missing on the usb stick I'm using, I also can't find the file within this forum to download.
My Mac does have EFI64 right now, so it might be unneccesary anyway.

However, I did tried to add the file (found it elsewhere with a google search) and put it in the folder on my usb stick.
The Mac accepted the booth this time, but unfortunately didn't show me a ML install screen and just boothed back into Lion.

Besides these 2 files I have noticed I have a lot more files in my ML CoreServices folder then is shown in the examples.
There's for instance another install file called "Installer.app". Does anyone know what it does??

My Mac:
White Macbook 2008
MacBook4,1
2,1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Intel GMA X3100 144 MB
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
FYI: Board-ID is in all the files

Hope someone can help me with this. I've been trying for 2 days now. :(:(

Great guide! :)

Fact is that ML runs noticeably faster than Lion. I've even got an Atom(!) netbook hackintosh running 10.8.1 without any issues at all and it's pretty snappy. It just goes to prove that hardware limitations are just Apple commercial politics which is lame...

Thanks, will add this to Post#1 and Post#22.

Hi Wayne, (or anybody really), while you're on the subject. Can you tell me if mach_kernel exists at /System/Library/CoreServices in your install pls?
....and whether you have two boot.efi files, one in /System/Library/CoreServices, and the other in /usr/standalone/i386?

I installed the installer on a flash drive using Disk Utility, and rebooted from the flash. The install proceeded and after that I rebooted back to Lion so that I could copy the included PlatformSupport.plist to the new10.8.
After that you use the supplied kext installer to copy the graphics and sound files and you're finished.

I followed exactly the steps on post 1/22 to install ML on my Macbook 3.1 (GMA X3100) and here is what I observed so far, which seems to be what other people with the same Mac have observed too, so it is just a confirmation :
- Brightness can't be modified
- Launchpad is very long to load
- The new screensavers don't work
- The computer don't wake up once gone to sleep.
- Mission control works, but the thumbnails of the spaces are "pixellised".
- In finder, in Cover flow mode, the names of the files are on black.
- In iTunes, Cover flow don't work.
- In the notification center, when twitter is double clicked, you end up with a great rectangle and can't see what you type.
- in iPhoto, when you "open" a picture, it's just black.
- iWork apps don't open.
- Youtube videos are not working.
- Flash sites have troubles.
- There is only sound, no video, in VLC when lauching 1080p mkv files.
- find my mac is not working

----------

I installed using iUTAMacinhackV10b2.dmg and had no problems on my Macbook 3.1.
Do you mean none of the problems I just mentioned apply to you ?
