Hmm, I left Pacifist doing its thing and when I came back about an hour later I found the Mac had gone to sleep. It seemed to pick up where it had left off before tho. Soon see anyway, well actually it had been slow since the start. In total Pacifist has been installing for the last 4 hours.

Another funny thing. Even before finishing the install, if I click About this Mac... it says 10.8.2!

It only took me about 30 minutes to update with Pacifist, but that was me holding the enter button to make sure that it "updates" and "replaces" all the files it prompts what to do with.

My guess is when you clicked on about this Mac, Pacifist had already replaced the OS file that states what version you're on.

Everything appeared to work under 10.8.1

10.8.2 killed it.

Ran 10.8.2 software update, restarted the machine and got the circle with a slash though it.

Tried replacing first the boot.efi files in the CoreServices then the one in the i386 folder. Also tried replacing the PlatformSupport.plist (even though it was not modified by the update)

Still the same circle with a slash through it. Any ideas?

Running on a mac pro 1,1 with an apple 8800gt and 4 gb ram.

I can boot to a different dive and try to repair this ML install, but not sure what i would do to fix it.

DonutHands your issue was using software update. I did the same exact thing and got the same results... we're just going to have to make sure to use Pacifist instead in the future. Never use software update.

Download the combo update and install through pacifist.

As for fixing your current drive, I personally just did an install of 10.8.0 over the borked 10.8.2 install using the drive I originally made last month following this guide and it worked perfectly. Kept all my files/applications intact. Then I just used Pacifist to update to 10.8.1, then 10.8.2.

Gonna a give it another go as soon as I've done another clone......

Nope. Dunno what it is. Pacifist doesn't give logs and 60% into the install was 5 hours later!!!

24 hours and counting

Hello,

i have a Macbook White Late 2007, and i am at this moment installing
the 10.8.2 update through Pacifist. I do not know why, but it's taking
more than 24 hours
.

Any similar case?

Hopefully, the computer will restart without problems...

I read it, but i expected similar times, not so a eternity...

Still installing...
That's because after it sat at the same point for three hours I stopped it.
Is yours done yet?

Tell me, do you have the ability to change the start up disk?

It's not done yet. It's still installing IntlLanguages, according to Pacifist.

In Pacifist, I selected the "Open Packet" Button, because the "Open Apple
Installation Packet" Button, didn't work with the 10.8.2 .dmg

About the start up disk, i'll post you an answer as soon as it ends.

How many percent would you say has completed? Can you detect any actual progress?

Here you have a Screen Capture of the progress.

I started the process two days ago. It was so slooooow, that i though i was
doing something wrong. So i stopped it yesterday at 12 a.m., only to find
that it wasn't my fault. Then, i restarted the update, till now. 32 hours...

But it's curious than the 1.8.1 update only took 15 minutes or so...

I have a 2007 Macbook White. Just wanting to hear from others how ML performs on it. Are there currently any big issues?

Succeed

Ok, the updating finished after almost 36 hours.

All new functions are available, but still the same problems with Lightness,
Wake-up recovery, and QC Acceleration. And Safari is not so fluent as i'd like.

Here are some screenshots:

But 36 hours. I don't think I could go that long without using it right now. Thanks for the info.
Oh, is that the combo update?
(Strange that the Delta is bigger than the combo isn't it, 665.39MB vs 665.48MB).

How did you install 10.8.2 via Pacifist? Just open the ComboUpdate in Pacifist and "install"? Didn't it overwrite essential files like modified boot.efi or patches for running ML on unsupported macs? Thanks in advice!

It's not the combo. But yes, it's bigger than the combo [ Perhaps due to the
update of the Apple Remote Desktop, which is included in the package ].

36 hours is quite serious. I was able to use some programs, i.e. Chrome, but
nothing more... Not Mail, Safari, Quicktime, etc...

Exactly. It'll ask you to overwrite the files. When i installed the ML, i used the
guide at the top of this forum. But for the updates [ first 10.8.1, then 10.8.2 ],
the was no problem. I downloaded the files from Apple - Downloads website,
and installed through Pacifist.

The 10.8.1 only took 15 minutes to update. This update, many more hours.
Why? No idea... Perhaps it's a problem in my computer, but i doubt it.

Why the limitation?

"Mac Pros with upgraded graphics > Perfect (RAM limitation = 8GB)"

Why does this RAM limitation exist? I have 21GB of RAM...so I guess I better stick with Lion for now huh?

It's a limitation of the tweaks necessary to boot using EFI32. You might want to use the Chameleon boot, which has no such limitation (although your Mac Pro would, in fact, be a Hackintosh).

Question for you guys that have been having issues with 10.8.2 taking extremely long times to install in Pacifist... have you been checking the boxes that say "don't ask again for this installation" when it first asks you about updating/replacing files?

Because I have not. I instead hold the enter key down to get through all of that, and it's only taking me like 20-30 minutes. This was the case for two Macs now... so maybe try doing it how I have, see if it helps cut the time down.

Yes, i checked it at the start point. It would be an awkward solution, but always
better than two days waiting

Actually, I just tried again with pacifist and it updated perfectly. No patching or manual moving of files necessary. (Except the audio kext)

10.8.2 works great!

Then it could be because Pacifist doesn't run the post install scripts. Personally I'd rather install the real stuff and repatch it at the end. Right now I am updating using the App Store (my 10.8.2 was the one for developers, which I am allowed to get - long story). I wanna see how it works! RIght now it is downloading, no platform check for it.

BTW no news for REAL GMA 950 kexts? Are they really so hard to develop??

No iMessages and Facetime

Is anybody looking into a solution for iMessages and FaceTime? If so, I thought this screenshot might be of use to a genius in the community.

I did my install over Firewire from a capable Macbook Pro onto a Mac Pro. The Migration Assistant solution worked for getting iCloud running, but still no iMessages and FaceTime. There are a few quick Hackintosh solutions w/ networking prefs, but those have not worked.

I booted to my MacPro install as external Firewire from capable Mac in hopes of something working for those. I guess I was hoping the capable Mac would trigger some kind of permanent bypass, and I was able to log in to both services w/ no problem.

As soon as I booted directly from MacPro drive, iMessages prompted me for login. Right when that happened, Little Snitch showed this connection attempt, and then iMessage functionality was lost for good once the connection was allowed.

So it looks like this process is what tells the Apple server that you are on an unsupported Mac.

Is it the model number? Or a serial number I have read on Hackintosh forums?

Hah, not 20 minutes straight, I got up to do things and then came back to holding it. But yea, I wasn't 100% positive what it meant by that ignore message... if it would skip them or not instead of doing the same replace/update operation. So I just held the enter ket.

I had three failures with 10.8.2, so I'm going to do more investigating before I try again.
