I like making experiments, too....but.....be serious....I'm sure 10.5 on a G3 makes no sense for serious work since Leopard is already slow on a G4....I myself have an iBook G4 1,2 Ghz 768 MB RAM and it's really slow....pretty much unusable.... you can't even watch 360p YouTube vids without using Mactubes or something like that.....

Unlike 10.8 on C2D-Mac(Book)s, it runs much smoother than the officialy supported Leopard on a G4 with upgraded RAM (have both here :D)....

regards

Leopard does not work on a G3, but it does run on a Powerbook G3, i my case a Pismo, with a Daystar 550mhz G4 upgrade. Its somewhat usable.

we talk about my own experience..... I don't said it's slow..... I meant for example animations, the general speed of system apps and such things don't work anymore like in Tiger..... You just feel it became an outdated machine....

It IS usable for simple apps, a bit surfing and mail checking but not for much more.....

regards

edit: i don't own a G3 and i wasn't sure if it works on a G3 from the beginning....but I watched the WWDC 2007 and Steve Jobs said G3s will get supported but apparently they saw it would be too slow and the processor is too outdated to still support the newest OS.....

Oh, please. Kicked it? That "bug" is stupidly easy to bypass.

Are you talking about running Lion on core duo? Sounds like the software side of it isn't bad, but unless I've missed something it doesn't actually run on that hardware, don't you need to swap the CPU for core2 duo or similar? I wouldn't call that stupidly easy.

I forgot the fact that it was a DP version, not retail. But yeah, it was Lion.

DVD Player

Gents, (and ladies of course). Am I the only one with a problem with DVD Player.app?
It works fine with real DVDs, but ask it to play a VIDEO_TS folder or a virtual disk and it quits without warning.

Console tells me that it exited with code 1. I have no idea where this points.
Launching from DVD Player/Contents/MacOS with a virtual disk mounted gives the following message, 'Error getting a reference to /options'.
Google mentions some things about AppleSMBIOS.kext, but not sure what to try.

Any takers?

The above link is not what the poster says it is.

I have found an already patched os x 10.8..... check this out

Im guessing updates will break this. Otherwise great stuff

Well I'll give it a try (just for testing, I bought my ML)... I'll post here my experience with it on my Early 2008-MB....

What does this actually mean? What do I need QE/CI for?

So basically: What can I not do if I don't have QE/CI?

Quartz Extreme and core image.... you don't have accelerated graphics -> launchpad, notification center and such things don't work well...

Hello.
I have a macbook 3,1 with GMA X3100 graphics. I installed ML, updated it to 10.8.1 with Pacifist and installed X3100 drivers from post 22, but still have no QE/CI. "About this mac" shows graphics as Intel GMA X3100 144Mb, but still no hardware acceleration.
Please help.

Which is the reason why I ended up just wiping ML off of my MacBook. Unless somebody ports a driver over to be 64bit for us there is never going to be hardware acceleration for us since Apple chose to not make a complete driver in the end. I will wait to use ML when I upgrade to a Mac Mini hopefully early next year. Lion runs perfectly fine on my MacBook. I just installed ML to try out some of the new features and really was not all that impressed after the novelty wore off. Everybody wants to try the latest and greatest features so to speak, but I am over it and am staying with stability for the time being. Best of luck to the rest of you. Cheers.

. In fact i'm surprised at just how well it runs. Just don't expect to be using any high graphics capable apps on it! Which most people wouldn't. In fact most people who use XServes don't even plug monitors into them!

Thanks for the heads up. Server runs seemingly perfectly.

----------

Should be hack able, just open up the package file and change some plist file I guess

Might be me, but I thought I'd make an installer from the latest version of ML from the AppStore, so I d'lded 10.8.1 and deleted 10.8 only to find that things have changed.
All I get now when navigating step 5 is the symbol for the alias of a generic document where 'Packages' should be.

When clicked the message tells me the alias could not be resolved????

HAve APPL 'fixed' it?

Strange things happened to me with 10.8.2 12C35 combo. First of all i checked with pacifist if there is a new boot.efi- but nothing in coreservices folder. So i installed it over my 10,8,2 12C31. You can imagine what happened. ML c35 didn´t boot. So i started Lion and found in the ML 10.8.2 a new boot.efi file. But i couldn´t delete it with root rights. Cocktail was able to delete this boot.efi file and i replaced it with the one in 10,8,2 12C31. Next boot was ok. so i have C35 on my MB 3.1.

Has any body come up on the below text either.....?
Kernel file /mach_kernel does not contain requested arch: i386

...and if so, are you running a non Apple SSD?

Thanks.

People have forgotten that it's more than just a driver issue.

Your hardware needs to support OpenGL 3.2. This is required for a bunch of things in Mountain Lion, as well as for anyone making anything with GLKit.

It's never going to work.

You have the same problem that everyone. No graphic acceleration for GMA950. Following the steps on pos #22 you can install ML, but is unusable (there ara some troubles). I recommend you install it on a partition to test.
