Boot Cache problems

Did you install MLPostFactor on the ML drive after the install completed?

Yep, I did. I'm trying the install again after re-partitioning and formatting and re-installing Lion on the main partition. I also have INSTALL and ML partitions.

Hi I installed this and it worked perfectly but after rebooting, setting up users, etc. The dock is transparent. I tried "killall Dock", creating new user, etc. Nothings working. Anybody have an idea?

Pic is here: http://imgur.com/agngoqE

Yes, are you using GMA 950?

If yes, disable Mirror will solve it. Open Terminal and type

defaults write com.apple.dock hide-mirror -bool yes
killall Dock

----------

Thanks! :)

----------

Before MLPostFactor was released, I installed 10.8.2 with MLHack10.8.2.zip and X1600Fix.zip according to the guide posted on the page 1.

I don't know which version of IOHIDFamily.kext was used then? Can you remember that, wayne?

With that method, my MacBookPro 2,2 can sleep normally, num lock LED is normal, iSight is normal. I didn't test blue tooth because I don't use any blue tooth devices on my laptop.

Can I get back only the effected kext and fix them?

Thats because before MLPostFactor you we're running it in 64-bit. See the architecture chart to understand what im saying.

----------

BTW, AFP sorta works if /System/Library/Filesystems/Appleshare/ has contents replaced by those from Lion. The DP1 versions are still 64bit only. This will allow you to see AFP shares in finder, but once authenticated and try to access contents, it will give an error. Same with SMB. Also a few FS kext in S/L/E that are 64bit only in DP1. No indication on client side's logs (MacBook) that there is a problem and it thinks it's connected from what I can tell. Server side seems it may be seeing multiple connects/reconnects so ignores it. SSH session via terminal fails after 3rd attempt at entering password with "Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive)". I should try making a public key and see if it will connect to narrow down to whats transmitted as clear text, I know this was issue with older NAS and other servers connecting in early ML releases, but wouldn't expect it to effect so many sharing protocols. VNC/Screen Share which works fine has totally different set of extensions and frameworks. If remaining issue is not with the FS stuff, I would guess it's with the authentication, IDK, just guessing ATM or it would already be fixed :)
Win 7 and Win 8 64bit both support GPT, it's just Win installer sucks and will throw an error no matter what...Even on reformed drive (done by Win Installer) have to disconnect every other HD completely from my PC before it not give that same error. Not issue specific to this modified ML setup, so can look at any Apple Bootcamp support forums for any other workaround.

MLForAll tried replacing the kexts only which resulted in a KP. Just now when i try to replace the whole folder & some kexts in Extensions to Lion i manage to get it connect for a few seconds then it KPed on me. Issue was with Authentication Agent used in AFP.

----------

Yeah, I also applied all of my custom kexts that I used on my Lion install. I'd rather install this "hybrid" version of ML because QE/CI is pretty important to me.

I would like to talk to you more about this, if you could possibly help. I tried to PM you, but I couldn't find that option on your account. Not trying to hijack a thread here (sorry hackerwayne).

I am very interested in the hackintosh thingy, i will create a separate thread over at InsanelyMac to talk about it. I have the same screen name - HackerWayne. Have you tried using Chameleon from DP1? I think it should work.

----------

Your right on the GPU limitation, but it's not because of no 64bit GPU kext that old macs cannot run ML, it's because: 32bit EFI so can't even boot, then no SMBIOS to change model info so it knows platform is unsupported, fixable things, but different set of challenges that go beyond just GPU kext. MLPostFactor, besides having the 32bit DP1 kernel and extensions available with it, has zero of the other things you'll need (fakesmc, nullcpupowermanagement for install, DSDT if you want native PM) I can go on. ML can be made to run on your Hack no problem, and you can still install regular ML since no 32bit EFI, just won't have graphics acceleration and need GE=No at boot. Swap kernel and extensions, open CL/GL from that point, along with add back fakesmc and any other patched kext u need for hardware. So you may find it useful as a post install tool, but not of any use in helping with initial installation, QE/CI are of no benefit during the 10 mins your in the installer, which can even be ran in safe mode with all GPU kexts disabled if need be. Feel free to post at InsaleyMac with any thoughts or help questions as I'm sure there are others with similar hardware that would be interested in results and offer to help.

I might actually work on that one. It maybe a very easy fix, because the kernel we're using here is actually DP1 but sightly modified, you should theoretically use the DP1 version of Chameleon Loader. It should work out of the box. Everything else remains stock. As in, you will need to add SMBios, FakeSMC, etc etc. Once im not so busy ill write a guide over at InsanelyMac.

No PM since here I am "noob". Also apologies to hackerwayne. I am admin at InsanelyMac, can PM me there.

Why apologies to me? You help a lot! And this ain't off topic (Its not like you were discussing shytdows.. lol.) Letting the general public know the method we use to create this tool is also a good thing.

Awesome, I'm glad you are interested in helping us hackintosh guys.

I'm trying the tool again except changing a few things. I will report back success/failure later today.

Also, are all of the modified kexts you use in the "hack" folder on the installer partition?

Thanks.

Hi, well I admit I was very sceptical about this when I read about DP1 kernel and whole DP1 /S/L/E; but I was wrong : it works!

I've tried this on 4 different Dell Latitude Hackintoshes:
  • D620 with GMA950@1280x800
  • D620 with nVidia Quadro NVS 110M@1440x900
  • D630 with GMA X3100@1280x800
  • D630 with GMA X3100@1440x900
Damn, it worked on all 4! :D

The D620 nVidia was difficult to do in terms of ML installation, but I got there eventually.

Well done guys, ML is such an improvement for display, especially on high res models. We're testing this for a wee while now, to verify stability.

Wow! This is great news.

Can you briefly describe how you did it? Also, can you post the version of Chameleon you used? Did you format using MBR?

A small guide would be great!

It's based on our documented OSXL vanilla OS X installation procedure (myHack/retail OS X + OSXL bootpack + EDP). We're working on adapting it to integrate MLForAll & HackerWayne's work (and give them the credits they deserve).

We're assessing the stability of the hack and need to test other systems too (eg: D430 (maybe?), D830, etc...).

Once we're happy it's sustainable, we'll publish a guide on OSXL.

Could you post a link? I'm unfamiliar with these websites.

I have a Lenovo T61 with X3100 and am willing to test. I just can't get it to boot into the partition after I install. I'm using MLPostFactor v0.2.2

Hey guys. I'm probably missing something here and I can't follow your guide past installing MLPF. I did install it successfully on a 8GB USB stick (more convenient for me) but I can't boot from it. The boot selector simply doesn't give it as an option and I'm dwelling on the fact that you don't instruct us to restore ML's DMG into the Install partition (or anywhere for that matter). Do I need to do it or do I have to use an internal partition?

Oh, btw, I'm on a MacBook 3,1 (X3100).

You probably didnt format the USB as GUID partition table & Mac OS X Extended Journaled. MLPostFactor will restore the DMG for you.

Can't boot into INSTALL

I am still having an issue. I deleted everything, and re downloaded Mountain Lion, and MLPostFactor. I have both files in my Application folder.

I have set up to drives, one INSTALL (8GB) and one MOUNTAIN LION (20GB).

I click on MLPostFactor from the application folder, and pick my INSTALL drive from the drop down list. It prompts me for a password and then runs, I then get a successful message.

When I look in my INSTALL drive I now see the following - HACK, LIBRARY, MACH_KERNAL, TMP.

I shutdown, and then restart holding the option key, and I only see my main drive and recovery drive.

I have Mountain Lion 10.8.3, and MLPostFactor 0.2.2.

Any help would be appreciated, and from reading I don't seem to be the only one having this issue.

Thanks again for all your work on this.

Well, something isn't working right then. I did format the USB as GUID partition table and HFS+ Journaled as you can see below, but MLPostFactor won't restore the DMG. All I get there, and on an internal partition which I meanwhile created, are the files and folders derickjsmith mentioned in his post. I've attached a screenshot where you can see that as well.

I'm downloading MLPostFactor again and I will try again after deleting all the system preferences associated to it.

UPDATE: I've attached a screenshot of what I get on the USB drive now. Not even all the files I get on the internal partition.

try recheck:

update :I see , Because You have same name Install partition name,Change the one of Built-in hard disk Install partition name , This Work

otherwise:

1、 4.XXGB Mountain Lion.app is REQUIRED to be in the Applications Folder.(ISO/DMG useless)

2、copy it (4.XXGB Mountain Lion.app)to your Applications folder.

3、Make sure system language is English(I'm a Taiwanese Chinese,When I first time in Chinese language mode, doesn't work.

Thats not right at all. Many files should be copied into the partition. The 8GB partition would left less then 3GB

This is what it should look like

Can't boot into INSTALL

I'm not sure if I understand.

I have my main partition - OSX (100), and then my INSTALL (8), and Mountain Lion (20) partition.

I also have the actual app in my application fold. It is not a dmg or iso, it is the app file. It is called - Install OS X Mountain Lion. When I get info on it, kind is Application (Intel)

My language is English.

Thanks for the help.

If I had to guess, I would say that my INSTALL partition (8GB) is not a bootable. When I go into System Preferences, Startup Disk, I can only see 1 partition, my main OSX. I can't see the INSTALL partition. So when I reboot, it just doesn't see it as an option.

1. Use Disk Utility to format your 8GB Install partition as Mac OSX Extended Journaled.
2. The App "Install OS X Mountain Lion" must be 4.xx GB
3. If 1 and 2 is correct, you'll create a 8GB Installation Partition that is almost full.
4. Use Startup Disk App to reboot into Install partition.

Then that is where the problem is, my MLPostFactor isn't coping the files over. I get no errors, here is what I see.

Thank you for the reply.

Dear hackerwayne:

I think if possible can you upload 2 finished dmg files to 『internet hard disk』,Share and to hope some people

1 of 10.8.2
2 of 10.8.3

^_^

and thanks for your hardy work, My MacBook2,1 now very well

My format for the INSTALL (8GB) drive is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
When I get info on my install OS X Mountain Lion from my application folder, it is only showing 24.1MB in size. (the dmg file that I downloaded is 4.44).

Inside my dmg I have Install OS X Mountain lion app, Library, Packages, System FOLDERS.

I don't think all the files from my install DMG are being copied over to my Application folder, just the app is.
