Gents, I have a really weird problem: 3-finger look up stopped working on magic trackpad after a while in ML. It was working yesterday when I installed ML using this method but it is not working now.

What I have tried:
1. Checked options of trackpad (look up is on).
2. Yes, I tap once (not twice) and by tapping I actually mean tapping (not clicking).
3. I tried to restart couple of time + boot in safe mode.
4. I tried to delete paring with trackpad and pair it again.
5. I disabled and re-enabled look up option.
6. I have no any special software installed related to mouse movement.
7. Tried killall for dock — no luck.

Looks like it simply ignores 3-finger tap and treats it like a 1-finger tap. Ideas? All other multifinger gestures work like a charm (only look up via trackpad isn't working; ctrl+cmd+D still works). Thanks.

Quick question for all you guys brave enough to go down this road, (I am waiting for the last .x update of ml to do so myself), do you think it makes for a better overall system more akin to snow leopard (sweet, sweet snow leopard) than the flop that was lion? If that's indeed the case I might join you soon.

Hello, welcome to the forum!

So, It's kinda about personal taste to some extent. Do you use FaceBook/Twitter/iMessage a lot? Then this is a great upgrade. Compatibility is a plus (SL is starting to be left in the dust), and many people here are reporting more speed and stability than their Lion installs. I certainly am.

I personally have been running it as my only OS(!) for over a month now, and have had zero issues. Install is simple, 0.3 is releasing within a day or two, and the community is more than willing to help with anything you might have questions about.

I'd say give it ago! Who doesn't like to once in a while give Apple the metaphorical finger and say "I CAN do it!"

I'd recommend:
Dual-booting until you're sure you like it
Then either reinstalling and migrating, or just using it until further MLPF development.

Hope I've helped!

You 've helped a lot Noah, thanks so much!

edit: lol, yeah that metaphorical finder sure feels good, that's true. In terms of fb, twitter, imessage, I hardly use them, but overall system speed and compatibility is what I am after. Again, thanks for your help.

OS 10.8 on Mac Pro 1,1

Ahoy! Has anyone upgrading their 1,1 Mac Pros to ML successfully installed a Kepler-based GPU afterwards? My only interest in ML is wrought at the thought of upgrading to the latest and greatest GPU down the road.

Thanks and comments

I´m just register to thanks Wayne and MLxAll for their efforts.... this method open great opportunities for older macs.

Currently running 10.8.3 on a MACBOOK early 2008 without problems.

Minors bugs (0.22) are:

a. Airdrop didn't see the machines (i swap the wireless card) was working on LION
b. Facetime didn't work (although the cam works with Photo Booth and Skype)
c. SAMBA didn't work yet (but AFP/Bonjour works)
d. iWorks didn't save documents. Possibly some incompatibilities with DP1 codebase
About this last bug, maybe is related with the inability to show the dialog box for save the documents or to choose iCloud or local (the documents are indeed saved without as untitled on iCloud. The same behavior i saw it on textedit

All in all this machine now works faster than before.

(4gb. Ram - SSD HD)

Waiting version .3 or maybe waiting for 64bit for x3100 graphic system.

As a side note. I understand why the OP wants to do a .4 64bit and this will be really good for x3100 people using 64bit drivers.

Are these files not for X1600.

I am using Macbook 4,1 with X3100. This machine is running 10.8.0 with 64-bit Kernel.

@hackerwayne & MLforALL

in case you could not figure out to solve sleep issues on MLPF 64 bit, (Don't know which machines are affected.) here is how I did the trick:
I made Onyx rebuild my Spotlight and Help indexes. For me this worked on a freshly installed System as well as on one with migrated files.

I hope this can help even though I don't know the command being executed.
Maybe this: sudo mdutil -E [path to volume to be applied to, e.g. /]

What do you suggest now?

I am running Macbook 4,1 X3100 on 10.8.0 with Intel (64-bit) kernel. Also to use MLPF would I need to re-install Lion? My OS is 10.8.0 and according to guide you must have Lion installed.

Other option is to wait for your 64bit release for X3100.

These files are for X1600

SAMBA a.k.a WINDOWS SHARES / PRINTERS

My MB 4.1 (Macbook Early 2008) is working perfect with the MLxFacto the only thing that prevents me to use it as fully is the problem with samba and windows shares. We have a lot of printers connected to PCs.

Wayne or someone else... Do we have a fix for that issue? I can live without FaceTime and Airdrop but SAMBA is a must.

Thanks

The fix for the shares will be in .3 I am told. If you read farther back in this thread, someone posted how to make it work now. Lots of files are needed from 10.7.5 and ML DP1.

I did the hotfix for AFP/Bonjour already. I was referring to SAMBA/Windows Shares that are different from AFP

Meanwhile if you need access to SMB/CIFS you can use muCommander you can google it...

This option didn't provide access to printers connected to PCs

Maybe wayne will post on the SMB shares. I thought those might be fixed also in .3. Lets see what Wayne says.

READ READ READ

Heres whats implemented/fixed (Final)

- Sharing/AFP fix has been implemented.
- WinShare/SMB has been fixed and implemented.
- Disk Permissions issues has been resolved.
- Preliminary 10.8.4 Support (Beta 12E30 to 12E36 only)

* Mac Pro (Any Graphics Card except X1300, X1900XT & 7300GT)
* Xserve ( Any Graphics Card except X1300)
- Support any upgraded graphics (as long as its compatible with Lion & SL)

To keep the thread clean, do not report all these issues listed below, they are known problems.

Expected Issues (64-bit MLPF)

- No iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime on this version! (Might or might not work)
- Start-up is expected to be very slow
- Unable to set Start-Up Drive in Mountain Lion.

Expected Issues (32-bit MLPF)

- No iSight.
- NumLock Key will always be on
- Little Snitch and other kernel based apps does not work!
- Graphical Glitches on 10.8.3 and 10.8.4 (Unconfirmed)

Great work Wayne.

Btw, I read in the comments on the release of 10.8.4 12E47 (here on Macrumors) that people also were experiencing glitches on their "normal" Mac's with 10.8.3. So it might be that it's a OSX related issue, and not a MLPF related issue.

I've yet to try 12E47 yet. Still finalizing MLPF for release ;)

I did not experience it in any of my Macs (Supported and Unsupported) the only sign of "glitch" is flashing Facebook Nav bar when scrolling.

Success indeed!

I had poked around on this thread when ML first came out, but decided the process was a little too tricky to try on my Late 2007 MacBook. When I saw recently that an automated installer had been created, I thought I would give it a shot again.

So far it seems to be working great. With the exception of some graphics flashes in Facebook, and the built-in iSight being super-slow (both of which are known issues), everything seems to be working really smoothly. Way to go, Wayne...keep up the amazing work!!:D

MacBookAir has a 64 bit efi and processor. will it work with 64 bit MLPostFactor 0.3? Any hint about that?
Thank you in advance.

@hackerwayne:

Will it be possible to use MLPF 32-bit on a MacPro1,1 with ATI HD4870? Because "very slow start-up" and no iCloud would make upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion totally pointless for me. (I don't keep my MacPro always on like I do it with my ML-compatible MBA with which I would also like to share iWork documents stored in iCloud)
I could live with graphical glitches and 32-bit mode only if it was for the sake of faster boot and iCloud support...

There was a user, who reported that his MacPro 1,1 system with upgraded ATI graphics card was fully working under 10.8.3, which he achieved using your earlier (pre-MLFP) method. Maybe if you could repost the last pre-MLPF guide, I could try to get it working with more confidence.... I'd be soooo grateful if you'd do that!

Anyway - thank your for you amazing job on this project!!

MacbookAir1,1 uses an X3100 GPU, so like the other X3100 machines, 64-bit is probably not usable in 0.3, if I'm reading correctly.
