Yes, I am aware of the ovulation bit. There has been many rumors about a full on non-rectal thermometer coming to the AW. That's what I'm looking for. I don't think shoving your watch up there is going to go down well. Or, rather — up...

Yes. I mentioned it because it seemed that without a remote invasive implant, it can be a challenge to measure some things.

Using non-invasive Apple Watch sensors, temperature of the body could be guesstimated. Blood sugar could be guesstimated.

Gurman few weeks ago: No big updates, just new chip and color... those leaks are just joke at this point. Just wait few days more and see what Apple have to offer. Few months back, made more sense, since the event was still far away and was interesting to hear stuff, but now - no.

Conflicting info on daily basis.
I want my chip to be space gray or that cool green. And the watch case I’d like a complimentary Hermes colour.

I realize I would never see the chip because it’s inside the watch but I just think it would be cool if it was green

I want a goddamn thermometer!!!
Yes.

An actual body temperature sensor would be nice. I know accuracy can be a problem, which is why they just did trends last time (but left out fever detection for whatever reason). Perhaps it's an insurmountable hurtle. Maybe they need to consider a new sensor in AirPods instead for accurate temperatures.

It is not just about UI, it is about functionality. Apple Watches have offered Cellular/LTE data since Series 3. This is a huge safety advantage (as one can use it even without having service). My Ultra gives me two days of battery life including doing several miles of workouts every day with a bright always on display. Not as long as a Garmin, but more than sufficient.

Yes.

I have an ultra and it’s been great.

How come nobody wishing for satellite emergency tracking and satellite texting for ultra 2?

Actually - there’s your temp sensor possibility !

Put a IR temperature sensor in the AirPods.

Ear measurement can be accurate - no joke

But it is a watch on your wrist. Do you want sensor on your other wrist and one ankle so you can have ECG V1 V2 and V3? Would everyone want that. haha.

I would disagree about "more sensors" for this reason.

You do not need to do that. You can have more contact points on the watch, just like how the Kardiamobile 6L does it. It's not difficult.

I'm talking about body temperature.
AirPods could accurately measure body temp from the ear and report it to your Apple Watch etc.

That’s likely coming. So discussion of it is productive after all.

Now I feel better not having to berate everyone with dumb comments - yours was good :)

Apple's inability to increase the processor speed on the Watch has also hamstrung their ability to make the OS heavier weight and run worse on older models. For that reason it's actually been a pretty good time to buy and keep a Watch, which Apple obviously hates. Prepare for your older models to feel much slower in the coming two years, folks.

Neet. Maybe it’s coming eventually or my guess is it would be a tricky risky legal reason to delay it. kardiamobile 6L is a one trick gizmo?

Apple is best, I’d argue, but yah I hope they copycat any and all other devices with such advanced features.

I may actually end up upgrading my Series 5 as the battery is starting to struggle to get through the day so it's either new battery or new watch. It sounds like this may actually be worth the upgrade and hopefully last another 4 years.

Is that it, I want a brighter display, the u1 is already fine no one has ever said it’s not good

What does one have to do with the other? I doubt there was a meeting that went "Should we go with the brighter display, or use the U2 chip? Show of hands? Ok, U2 chip it is."

A CPU upgrade can be used multiple ways: either using same amount of power to be faster, or keeping it at the same speed while using less power.

Most people seem to be OK with the battery life as-is (given how popular the AW is), since you need to sleep sometime. There's not much reason to have it last more than 24 hours, except maybe in some special cases.

For running, etc. AW Ultra is the answer to that, so I don't expect they will be focusing on increasing battery life significantly.

This is fishy to me. No way that there are so much improvements when the redesign the 10th anniversary is shy one year away. Something is off, if true. Probably Change the parameter of the HR Sensor with an (a) revision and only truly change hardwaregen with the 10th anniversary. In other words using rebranded sensors not new improved tech.

It's the opposite. This design is getting old, so the only way to get people to buy is to add more upgrades. If they do a redesign for the 10th, that's the only thing they would need to change since people will buy it for that alone.

It sounds like you'll be able to get a great deal on a series 8 or Ultra 1 after release and not be missing out on much. Unless the new processors significantly improve battery life, this doesn't offer significant value over the outgoing models. Coming from a series 4, the series 8 is still a hell of an upgrade.
I'm still sporting a Series 5, and my one hesitation with upgrading to a Series 8 would be software support. Given that the Series 8 is still sporting essentially the same internals as the Series 6 (which was released in 2020) and the chip in the Series 6-8 is based on the A13 that was released in 2019 I wouldn't put it past Apple to drop software support for all these watches in a couple years. If you tend to keep your Apple Watches for several years the chip upgrade may be worth the extra money.

I’m both excited and not excited at the same time.

New Watch colors is always fun, but there’s nothing here I either haven’t seen or want.

Great news! Looking forward to getting the Series 9. I tried out the Ultra and I have small wrists so couldn't do it but it seems like an amazing device for others.
Funny. I actually bought one and feel the same way. Too big for me. ‘Downgrading’ to a SS AW9.

See? Too big even with the sport band.

Anyone know what trade-in values will be like for the AWU1?
Go to apple's website, mock up an order for a different watch and put in your current one for trade in.

Post-even values will be that or less.

Far better off selling privately via swappa or elsewhere than selling to Apple's third party wholesaler.

Well crap, I was planning on buying a S8 or Ultra when they went on sale. May as well buy the newer version now.
