Yes. It also averages 90 FPS on a DVD source (and this was with Decomb on), up from around 80 from the 32 bit version. There is a noticeable difference, not to mention the i7 is a beast to begin with.

I'm curious, does Handbrake max out your i7?

I have a 2009 8 core Mac Pro and Handbrake is still only utilizes about 50% processing power (120fps with Decomb on).

If only Apple's Video Encoding apps were 64 bit.;) Handbrake has always been ahead of the curve.

I use Compressor more often than Handbrake for the simple fact that I can max out my system and encode BluRay movies in about 1 hour. Handbrake only utilizes about 50% of my processing power at any given time, for me it's too slow.

It uses about 70%. My 2.8 core2extreme was always fully used, this one was not.

It took some digging around to find 64-bit VLC as well. It was on the Handbrake forums so I managed to find it too.

64-bit Handbrake is worth the boost you get. I like those extra frames.

ok....

Pros...

It is faster. Used to get 25-35 FPS, now i get about 35-45.

Cons...

Took away console presets. Their website says the normal setting will work for xbox 360 and PS3. I don't have a PS3, but my Xbox 360 wont play either of the movies i encoded with the normal setting.

You need to rip the DVD to your HD first in order to fully use all your CPUs in a Mac Pro. The optical drive is the bottleneck here.

I always rip everything to the HD. The 64bit version dose improve on the prior version, but it's barely noticeable on the pro. If Handbrake were to utilize 100% of my computer processing power, I would probably be able to encode a DVD in about 10 minutes at 250fps lol.

I dont get it, why lose the avi setting? Thats the format I use all the time....

I think they explained quite well why they are tossing it: It's an obsolete format and the encoder wasn't well supported anyway. It looks like the HB devs are steering it to mainly be an H.264 encoder, with Matroska support on the side. Those two formats should cover most people's needs anyway. What are you using AVI for?

Ah ok I saw the notes now... But my ps3 only plays avi file, thats why I still use it...

What is the VLC 1.0.2 64-bit and what do I do with it? Running a quad-core processor with Win 7/64 Pro. Right now getting about 64FPS when ripping DVDs.

On OS X, it is required for de-CSS with the 64bit Handbrake.*
This isn't supported in the first place on Windows, so don't worry about it. For that matter, there doesn't even seem to be a 64bit Handbrake for Windows.

*More technical version: Handbrake uses a library called libdvdcss to decode the CSS protection on the DVD. On OS X, it borrows VLC's copy from /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/lib. This needs to be 64bit as well to work with 64bit Handbrake, and it is only 64bit if the copy of VLC is 64bit. For one reason or another, there is no precompiled 64bit binary of VLC 1.0.3, so to de-CSS with 64bit Handbrake, you must have a 64bit copy of VLC, which means the older 1.0.2 version.

The issue with Meta-X has been traced to the "Large File Size" option which gets checked automatically when you use the Apple TV preset. Just go into Meta-X and check the same thing under preferences and it should fix any issues.

I am really liking this HandBrake update. It really is faster, takes up less RAM and is overall better. I use HandBrake all the time and this just makes it better.
