64 bit handbrake

Hi guys,
Do you have to enable 64 bit mode? Or does HB do it automatically? and as i understand, the newer version of VLC 1.03 does NOT have 64 bit mode? i would have to downgrade to VLC 1.02? is that maybe why is hasn't been ripping faster on my macbook?

Also, i've had trouble playing ripped videos on my iphone. Sometimes after they've ripped, they won't transfer to my iphone. I then have to go into itunes and have itunes convert it to play on my iphone. any ideas why this is happening?

As long as you have downloaded the 64 bit version, then you will have it by default. You should see the "64 bit badge" on the icon when you start HandBrake

You will not see the blindest bit of difference in ripping speed if you have 64 bit software at all, and if you are encoding directly from the disc you probabaly won't see that much difference between the 32 & 64 bit builds anyway. You may want to rip the disc to your HDD with another tool first and encode from there, you will probabaly see the biggest gains in encoding time although you have to outweigh that with the time it took to rip the disc in the first place :p

Don't get fooled that just because something is 64 bit everything is going to run 50 times faster than before, in reality and in everyday tasks (like encoding :D) you are going to see marginal gains. The biggest gains in 64 bit is probably in the pro arena, such as video editing, etc.

Your encodes are probabaly out of the the specifications the iPhone can handle. Open one that doesn't work in Quicktime, show Movie Inspector and post the info. What preset are you using in HandBrake to create your encodes?

I used the Apple Universal preset. And this problem only seems to happen when I rip a TV series (batman: the animated series disc 1 season 1 in this case). When i rip movies from dvd's, it transfers to my iphone perfectly. I thought the presets are supposed to set the specs of the movie, so why would there be a problem?

What is movie inspector? Is that a separate program, or is it part of Quicktime?

Thanks for your help

The universal preset should be OK. Movie Inspector is part of Quicktime - Command-I, or select "Show Movie Inspector" from the Window menu when Quicktime is open.

I'm confused with my Intel iMac 2.8 Core 2 Duo i get an average of 15 fps with Apple TV Preset. The only thing I have changed is I have added the subtitles

Hearing of 27 and 40 fps I am thinking something is wrong with my Mac:mad:

I just realized that the ripped vids won't play in Quicktime, they only play thru iTunes.

I've seen 5 to 10% increase in encoding speed between 32 bit and 64 bit (using VLC 1.0.2, obviously). Small, but it's there.
