I have a MacPro 3,1 and its really easy. No kext hack just plug that into the spot where your wifi card was, attach the antennas and call it a day. That was one of the easier mods I've done

----------

They work together just fine and don't interfere with each other. No extra steps needed.

Its pretty awesome that people can just run the application now and not worry about modifying kexts on their own. Ive been beta testing it for a couple days and was going to explode if I couldn't tell people about it soon haha

For me who has aggravation for a profession fixing these bloody things easy is really, really good. When I see it's still working fine after 10.10.1 it'll be offered out to the clients though friends and fellow engineers got an email earlier - had to be done!

Thanks for the umpteenth time again.

Update on my Handoff Issue

So, as some of you may have read some of my posts, I did the handoff hack that @UncleSchnitty was so gracious to provide.

So, after I did the hack, I was able to do handoff from iOS to Macbook and Macbook to iOS. However, whenever I restarted the computer, my computer would only do Macbook air to iOS but not iOS to Macbook.

So, I reset all settings on my iPhone and redid the hack from scratch and etc. Unfortunately, none of this fixed the problem. So, I just decided to not restart my macbook air and just keep it on (this works). If I do not restart the computer, then I have to start the hack from step 24. Sucks, but until there is some kind of identification as to what the problem is, then I am stuck with this process.

Problem using Automatic Updater

I've tried using the Automatic Handoff Updater provided by dokterdok. Everything seems to work until I get the attached screenshot. So I do as it says and reboot and re-run the script. The same thing happens. Repeat.

I've done it about 6 or so times and nothing changes. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

And apparently no matter what, I can only airdrop from macbook air to iOS but not iOS to macbook. This is really stupid!

Why don't you give the handoff enabler application a try? Maybe it will iron out whatever is causing your issue?

Thanks for the feedback. I've just posted an updated version which should fix this bug. Please re-download it and let me know if it works.

I'm happy to publish the first version of the OS X Continuity Activation Tool.

I wanted to give my thanks as well! I've been following this thread and the original thread for a few weeks and appreciate everyone's work for random people out there like me. I'll be trying it this weekend and promptly donating :)

Hello Bassaxoharp, I haven't read your previous posts so I'm not sure this is relevant to your case. I've however experienced these symptoms before in my tests. From my understanding it was because something went wrong during the handshake between the iOS device and OSX. These steps after the hack, -straight from Apple- and a bit of patience (the handshake could take up to 20 min to happen) fixed it for me:

Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
  • Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
  • Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
  • Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.

Check the following settings on your Mac:

  • Go to the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
  • Make sure your Mac and iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iOS device and compare the name of the network with the Wi-Fi network on your Mac.
  • Go to the Bluetooth icon at the top of your screen and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
  • In System Preferences > General, select “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.” If you don't see this setting, your Mac may not support Handoff.
  • Open the FaceTime app, go to FaceTime > Preferences and turn on “iPhone Cellular Calls.”
  • Go to System Preferences, and sign out and then sign in again to your iCloud account.

If you're still running into issues, make a diagnostic with the Continuity Activation Tool and post your results here.

Think you lot should kick off a fresh continuity tool thread chaps!

The point of this thread is to roundup all information found on handoff so that sort of encompasses that, I did change the title though to showcase the tool.

I agree - but you guys have took an extra step by making an app. Just offering an opinion I am happy enough as it is!

I did update the title so that should help get the tool/mod to more people. Also here it has the breakdown of what each system needs and believe me that question gets old real quick hah

Hi used your tool thank you. But after I restart my computer: same issue. It appears that I need to sign out of my iCloud on my mac each time that I restart the computer. Not sure I should have to do this. I have tried all the troubleshooting. But once I sign out of iCloud and back in on the mac, everything works.

Now, the one thing that I can't get to work is making or accepting calls on my macbook constantly gives me a fail. As I understand it, it has nothing to do with handoff. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Awesome!

I'm happy to publish the first version of the OS X Continuity Activation Tool.
Beautiful work! That's some nice, readable bash scripting (even commented nicely!!)

Even better, it means I don't have to do anything else :p

That's good enough - enjoy the blitzkrieg you are no doubt going to get when news of this tool spreads. Here's hoping the donations more than cover your time spent! :D

You shouldn't have to do that. It's so weird you are running into this issue.

No, sms relay, calls, and instant hotspot are run off continuity not handoff ( it gets confusing because handoff is part of continuity but they are not the same). I would log off FaceTime and messages while you are at it and log back in. That should help with that. You'll know it worked if you get an email saying "your iCloud is being used by another computer" or something to that effect.

Give that a shot. I'm trying to help, sorry yours seems to be difficult

Not my speciality but how about signing out of icloud, facetime, messages, the lot then deleting all the iCloud keychains out of keychain access? When you sign back in with the card installed be patient and I think iCloud will put all those key-chains back in fresh - supporting the goodies.

Or tell me to go away cos you don't know what you're talking about :D
