You would need a new wifi card in the unibody MacBooks and since its held in the screen hinge I don't know if the newer cards will physically fit. Since they are much trickier and size is unknown I have not added it to the list.Any idea how to get this to work on a Late 2008 Macbook (aluminum; unibody)?
Yosemite runs fine
If you have the 15inch you should be able to upgrade. Ill look into it some more but it would probably take the CAX card.
Very helpful, thanks!
I do have the 15" of the Late 2008 MacBook Pro. I will look into the CAX card.
I completed the steps above, and ran the tool again. Still no Handoff option in Preferences.
The only thing I changed was running the following command in the terminal prior to running the continuity tool.
Code:sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
Continuity Tool Output
System Preferences
Modified Kexts

The CAX card uses that connector.
Just checked into it:
My wireless card is the following:

Any my Bluetooth card is this one:

Any idea if I can do anything with this?
Me too!What card do i need for my iMac Late 2009 27" 2.7 i7?

The only iMac that I am 100% sure on is an 08imac can use the card and adapter that the 08 Mac pro uses. I tested it myself and it works. Any other models I can guess what you need but I really don't know for sure. The issue is if the mpcie slot the wifi card goes into also sends a usb signal. In the 08s I know it does with later models I don't, like in the 08 Macpros it ran usb but in later years you had to wire it too.Me too!
Looks like we have separate WiFi and Bluetooth cards in this machine.

Before you do whats your mac model id? go to ->about this mac-> system report. and let me know it should say something like Macbook pro 4,1
Tried it once more.
Used Kext Drop to replace the modified Kexts with the originals.
I ran
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
and then
sudo kextcache -system-caches
Repaired permissions and rebooted.
Re-ran the tool, and still no luck.
Not sure what I am doing wrong here, seems pretty straightforward.
Unfortunately thats the model where its in the hinge so the updated cards will fit. SorryThe model is: MacBookPro5,1
Thanks!

So, as some of you may have read some of my posts, I did the handoff hack that @UncleSchnitty was so gracious to provide.
So, after I did the hack, I was able to do handoff from iOS to Macbook and Macbook to iOS. However, whenever I restarted the computer, my computer would only do Macbook air to iOS but not iOS to Macbook.
So, I reset all settings on my iPhone and redid the hack from scratch and etc. Unfortunately, none of this fixed the problem. So, I just decided to not restart my macbook air and just keep it on (this works). If I do not restart the computer, then I have to start the hack from step 24. Sucks, but until there is some kind of identification as to what the problem is, then I am stuck with this process.
Where do I purchase the Macbook Pro Late-2011 card?
I am having the same issue with my MacBook Air 2011. All the Handoff functions work, as does AirDrop to iPhone 6, but not AirDrop to MBA.
To clarify the issue for a Late 2009 iMac: It uses two cards. To make this solution work you need to replace the two separate cards (WiFi and Bluetooth) with one card. That single card would need to go into the slot where the current WiFi card lives. That card slot is called a MPCIE (micro or mini PCI Express). The only iMac that I am 100% sure on is an 08imac can use the card and adapter that the 08 Mac pro uses. I tested it myself and it works. Yes, the new card/adapter has both wifi/bt and would bypass the bluetooth card if you left it in(or you can take it out). The 08 much like the 08 pro does not need to have an additional cable run to it because it supplies usb. I do not know if later models provide that.To clarify the issue for a Late 2009 iMac: It uses two cards. The unknown is the USB signal. The system talks to the new Bluetooth and / or WiFi via USB. If there is USB circuitry there then chances are good it might work. If there's not another hardware mod would be necessary.
Do I understand this correctly?
Great job. My MBA 2011 now does Handoff!
Am I correct in assuming I'll have to do this again when Apple puts out a Yosemite update? Will you update any changes needed at that time.
