Same for me, the new tool worked perfectly!
I was gonna skip it if I had to do it manually, but this tool did the trick
Awesome

Doing it manually is definitely not a beginners task, thankfully you saw it realized it was a little tough and you were patient. I see a lot of people on here that saw that it was tough and attempted it anyway and ran into a lot of issues. Props to you for being patient hah

It wasn't something I HAD to have
My 2013 rMBP 15" is my primary machine
And my 2011 MBA 13" is my secondary/travel machine
Its a 'nice to have' but I wasn't willing to invest the time and frustration on it :)
But this tool was simple and straightforward and did the trick
Greatly appreciated!

Hi all,
I am an old lady trying desperately to stay current on all this tech stuff, so I apologize in advance if this has been answered, or worse, that I should know the answer. I have an iPhone 6 with 8.1, iPad 3 with 8.1 and mid-2011 iMac. I have been able to text between all 3 devices and yesterday I was able to answer a phone call on my iPad. I would like to be able to do the same on my mac. So, the question, are the hardware requirements different for texting than calling on my mac? And if so, would the "tool" work for me?

Thanks to all the smarties out there!

iMacs can do the calls and texts out of the box. Open your FaceTime and messages, make sure that is set to your iCloud account. It should set it up for you automatically.

This tool helps with the hand off feature, the one where you can open a application on an iOS device then transfer it to your mac screen. You will not be able to do this without new hardware in the computer, and ill warn iMacs are not easy with this.

Does this kext modification mean that only those kexts used in this app / process can be installed / run unsigned or it generally allows any unsigned kext in future?

it turns on kext-dev-mode so it generally allows unsigned kexts.

Thanks so much for responding. My FaceTime for some bizarre reason was linked to another email address, once I changed that I was able to get phone calls on all 3 devices. The handoff feature is pretty cool, but I'm not sure it would really benefit me, so probably won't be looking to change any hardware anytime soon. Having said that, it would be great to get the new iMac! Thanks again!

Everything is ok on my MacBook Air mid 2011. It would have been a pity not to have Continuity and Instant Hotspot which are great features.

I really really want to thank you for the job. I've made a donation and hope you will collect some money to keep doing such a wonderful job:):):):):):):):):):):)

MBA mid 11 bluetooth bug

Hey there!

Somehow this whole thing doesn't work for me, even though it outputs "1" at the end of step 27..
After installing it properly it says my bluetooth wasn't available..

Tried redoing everything over and over again but it just won't work..

I hope you have any ideas :D
Thanks!

Continuity Tool output indicates that it worked successfully, I did have to manually type the following first for the script to work "sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1". Unfortunately I do not have the enable handoff button available in System Preferences > General

I happily contributed $5 to this project.

I have included some screenshots.

Continuity Tool Output

System Preferences lacking Handoff

Had you tried to manually change the kexts before?

I have an Early 2009 Mini, and it contains a PCI Wi-Fi/BT module (not PCI-e), and it's connected by a flex cable with a high density connector. I don't see how it's possible to upgrade this module as suggested in the first post.

The CAX card uses that connector.

So it went fine the first time? it rebooted for you?

Correct.

To clarify.

The script did not work at first.

I received an error that something was locked for editing, and that I needed to press any key to reboot. When I pressed a key the system appeared to freeze.

I saw the same an error on another post, this was it:
attachment.php

I was able to get around this buy first running the command "sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1", then running the tool. The tool then didn't ask for my password, the diagnostic finished, so I hit activate.

It ran through all of the sequences, and said it needed to reboot which it did successfully.

I think something corrupted the kexts when the system "froze", I would put back the original kexts using these instructions.
3 delete old kexts
4 sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
5 sudo kextcache -system-caches
6 repair permissions
7 reboot
8 used kext drop for the backed up ones
9 sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
10 sudo kextcache -system-caches
11 repair permissions
12 reboot

Then try it again. I have a feeling that while it "seemed to freeze" I think it was doing its job and it was interrupted causing the files to corrupt.

If you need the originals you can get them at this Temp link

If I'm right then when you ran it twice the backups that the system made were over written with the corrupted ones.

Perhaps my old eyes are not working, but could someone tell me what card I'd need to purchase (and where to get it), for a mid 2010 27" iMac i7.

Thank you.

I wasn't but since you asked:
UncleSchnitty Donations
With that I can keep ontop of the trouble shooting and to keep everything up to date. It would be very kind if you could.
But don't forget DokterDoks donations because he did all the work on writing that tool.

iMacs are tricky, you technically can do it with a card and adapter however I have only tried it on 08 iMacs. I honestly have no way of testing on other machines to see if it fits inside

I completed the steps above, and ran the tool again. Still no Handoff option in Preferences.

The only thing I changed was running the following command in the terminal prior to running the continuity tool.
Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

Continuity Tool Output
System Preferences
Modified Kexts

Late 2008 MacBook Pro?

I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro. I saw that it was not included on the published list that can have the new bluetooth card installed. Is this because it won't work in my MBP due to incompatibility of cabling, etc., or because its just so old it wasn't included in the list?

Thank you to all who worked on putting this together!

There are a ton of threads about this and I just wanted to put all the findings in one place with the updated procedures since there have been a lot of modifications recently.

Breakdown:

Macbook Air:Early 2008-2010: Requires new bluetooth/wifi card and modified Kext.

Macbook Air:Mid 2011:Requires modified kext only

Macbook Air:Mid 2012-2014: Works OTB

cMacbookPros:Mid 2009-Mid2012 requires new bluetooth/Wifi card and Modified Kext.

RetinaMacBook Pros: Works OTB.

cMacPros:Early2008-2013 requires new bluetooth/Wifi only

NMacPros:Works OTB .

MacMini:Early 2009-2010 requires new bluetooth/Wifi Card and modified Kext.

MacMini:Mid 2011-2012 Only requires Modified Kext

iMac:Mid 2007-2011 requires bluetooth/Wifi Card and Modified Kext

iMac:Late 2012-2013 works OTB

I will also update the list above if someone lets me know that something is off. Since I don't have access to all these machines I cant try them all out to know 100%

Thanks. What card and adapter did you try with an 08 iMac? Depending on cost and ease of implementation I might give it a shot.
That or I just go pfffttt and get a new 5K iMac (yeah right!)

If you have the 15inch you should be able to upgrade. Ill look into it some more but it would probably take the CAX card.

I got this one here Its really questionable if it will work (like some macpros need the usb connector while the 08 doesn't) Like I said I only tested it on the 08iMac and that worked but please if you would like try it so I can be a little more informed
