eh..??

Apple haven't officially acknowledged the issue which means the won't officially announce a fix...if they are even looking at doing it.

so...

you'll never know if/when they are better in that sceanrio why not just kepp exchanging?

BS!
Apple is exchanging iMacs, they are arranging on-site screen replacement ... They are really trying to solve the problem. And, just in case you don't know, the panel is made by LG, not Apple.

The advertisement is about the angle of view, but we all know: you Are keep fighting your personal war against Apple all over the forum ...

no its says perfect picture and color consistency from any angle which presumably includes 'straight on'

SaSaSushi (and others) have said that the perfect screen is not possible.

so..

clearly someone is wrong I was trying to work out who..

yes they are exchanging Macs and replacing screens but they haven't officially announced that there is a widespread problem, press release etc.

how are they trying to solve it. ?

The guy who had on site repairs now has a yellow tinge at the top and blue at the bottom.!!

people are receiving week 6 and 7 machines which are still yellow...

if Apple was trying to fix then surely they would stop sending out yellow or backlight bleeding screens ...FULL STOP.

shoddy way to do business and treat its customers..

True, thing is we can play the blaming game all day. If its a perfect machine, people say its because Apple made both software and hardware.

If its not, people blame the manufacturers for the faulty device (example: Nvidia, LG). Kinda sucks, coz if it was a PC, we'll be seeing different opinions and reactions. People blame Microsoft most of the time, and not the manufacturer. Even though Microsoft was only responsible for the software side of things or probably just partly responsible.

Thing is, we consumers don't even need to know these things, we expect to have a top notch excellent machine if you're spending $1k-$2++ on a computer. Apple is the only one to blame, since we directly bought the machine to them. The fact that they chose LG, and not having it QA'd enough is enough to point all fingers to Apple. :D

In regard to the subject though, I saw an article here in macrumors that apple representative said they're fixing the issue (both flickering and the yellow tinge).

The title was about Apple declining there was a halt in production of iMacs, and the apple spokesperson reconfirm that they are fixing those 2 issues.
So I'm really glad Apple is doing something about it :)

I know you would like Apple to fail, but they are not crazy.
They are trying to solve the problem, keep exchanging iMacs at customer's request ...
And they are loosing a lot of money in that process ...

you don't care about customers at all: you are just blaming Apple ...

wow, epic fail with that post..

1/ Exchanging Macs is not trying to fix the issue....its just a way to placate customers to the point where they get a 'mild yellow' screen and then can't be bothered to return the xth one.

2/ yes, one guy. I haven't seen anyone else post.

3/ Perfect isn't possible according to some. Some are better than others..... as are people's eyes and standards.

4/ Yes i am blaming Apple for being deceitful, duplicitous and for treating its; customers like idiots.

My week 6 machine arrived yesterday - real sexy bit of kit......

...except my screen has such a yellow tinge I could see it while on the initial white booting up screen.... along with 1 dead pixel!!!

Not happy, mostly coz I will have to wait an age assuming Apple will replace it with a new one.

Does anyone have experience of getting replacements for yellow tinge on models ordered online? Will Apple ship out a new one, and collect the old one at the same time as delivery, or how does it work?

Ask for an advance replacement - say that you are in the middle of some project and cannot afford to be without your computer and you also wish to ensure the integrity of your data therefore would feel happier having the knowledge that you retain your current one until the new one is delivered. Generally once the replacement is delivered you have ten days to return the original - they'll just issue you with an RMA (Returned Merchandise Authorisation) number and then UPS / FedEx will call you to arrange collection.

archipellago, you impress me with your dedication to talking BS - a poster who, by his own admission, owns absolutely no Apple products what so ever but is a prolific poster on an Apple forum spouting the same old scratched mantra - your life must be very fulfilling.

so just to be clear.... you are happy to confirm that Apple is breaking advertising laws with the iMac screen claims then?

from website..

IPS technology.

The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible. Whether you’re sitting in front of the display or standing off to the side, you’ll get a perfect picture with superb colour consistency and no loss of detail.

Well, I'm not going to make excuses for Apple on this one, Archie. I suppose it depends on what they mean by 'perfect picture'. If you think that it means perfect color uniformity at every point on the panel then yes, it's false advertising and I suggest you sue them.

I'm sure Apple's lawyers will counter in court that this is not what they meant at all and I'm not sure you'd be able to retire on the settlement you are counting on but go for it.

There is no such thing as a consumer display with absolutely perfect color uniformity.

3/ Perfect isn't possible according to some. Some are better than others..... as are people's eyes and standards.

Yep, which is why some iMacs with non-yellow-tinged and very good quality (but not perfect) panels are undoubtedly being returned ad nauseum by unrealistic and hype-influenced individuals with a holy grail complex too.

This is not all those who are returning machines, but I'm sure a portion thereof and I have my suspicions about a specific few among us.

Hey i just got my quadcore i5 but i dont know where it was made and what week it is. I know i have come across a link to this website that tells you the mac's specs and production.

Also, this imac is flawless.

No yellow screen (checked on the website with no ambient light) no noisy hardrive and no buzz. It is great!

talking BS?

well you've not proven me wrong with anything yet and I won't be holding my breath...

no I don't own any Apple products at the moment but looking at Apple's current product line I have in the past owned one of nearly everything hardware wise in each category (Mac pro and MBA aside) even the mammoth flop that is ATV!

so I have vast experience of not only Apple products but Apple Uk's (general lack of) aftercare service and have even taken them to small claims court on a few occasions.

I also have vast experience of alternative products and companies, so I feel I can comment and help lots of people.

Checking the forum T&C's you don't need to own an Apple product to post here.

Not so much a fulfilling (or not) life just that after ditching Apple products I seem to have lots more spare time as I'm not constantly troubleshooting them or going back to Apple UK...

don't like it?

cool.. don't reply.

I could be wrong, Max, but I think Archipellago might actually wear that title proudly. I don't think you could come up with a more apt one. He is leading his own Jihad against the evil Apple Empire and noone is going to stand in his way. :p

He's definitely not alone in this forum ;)
I can't see myself going around Windows' forums just to "save people" :D

thanks for the site!

my imac is a week 49

hmm this goes against the usual "omg before weeks 3-6 are cursed"

im surpirsed!

and one more thing, my boot time is kinda, slow it takes like 10 seconds on the blue screen then like another 10 seconds on the white screen then the apple logo comes and then you wait a little more then the loading circle thing comes and then after a little more the imac goes to the homescreen and the dock comes like instantly. After that the imac is faaaaaaast!

Restart the mac osx hardrive under system preferences > startup disk.

wow thanks! it doesnt start with a blue screen anymore and there is a greater improvement in speed. i can confidently say its like 2x as fast!

any reason why?

Because for some reason or another your iMac was trying to boot off another disk first. Since it couldn't find it, it was looking around for it for a bit before just giving up and boot off the internal HD.

By selecting it in startup items, you changed the boot order so that it looks to the internal HD first.

For some reason some of the iMacs shipped without stipulating the start up disk i.e. OSX 10.6. You're computer took that extra time "searching" for startup disk to Boot from. It probably checked the Optical drive - "negative", checked the SD Card reader - "negative" - checked the internal HD - "oh there's the OS I'll Boot from that". All you've now done is just to tell it to go straight to the internal HD and specifically the OSX operating System. If you partitioned your HD and installed other OS, such as Windows 7 or Linux, then you could specify the default Startup disk / OS as you chose.

ahh good to know, however i do have an SD card in the slot.

also i tried to make a time machine back up on the SD Card but it wouldn't let me because its too small. (couldnt find a setting to reduce the backup size)

But with an Operating System on so obviously wouldn't have booted from that.

Bit confused on this one - you're trying to do a Time Machine Back-up of your entire system onto an SD card?

no no no no no no no no, yes.

well like just the os and something i need like an app or something... so i dont have to put in the installation cd if i need to, even though i know nothing will happen because snow leopard wont get corrupted :)

Chalk up another 27" with no problems. I just picked my core i5 up from the apple store yesterday and i've run all tests to check for yellow tinged and what not and the machine seem to be damn near perfect. The only problem I do have is that whn I plug in my secondary screen it is completely yellowed, weird.
