Hey guys,

Here is my week 5 iMac

i dunno if my eyes are playing tricks (been looking at it for past few hours) on me so i could use someone else opinion if i have a yellow tinge problem or not

dsc0120ys.jpg

i took this with a nikon d90

and when i open the image in photoshop and i use the eyedropper tool .. and if i pick a spot at the middle of the grey bar (right hand) i get the RGB of 131/133/141 and if i move down in the same line to the middle of the bottom grey bar i get the RGB of 131/131/130 ...

so if i look at it that way i have the yellow tinge thing but then i dunno if it could be my cam so that is why the image is lil bit off

what do you guys think

Now I know why there is people changing 3 or 4 iMacs ...
In my opinion you have a perfectly acceptable screen.

Here's a tip - don't look in these threads anymore. No one can say your screen is yellow based on the pictures you took. Many factors come in - so don't worry about it. If YOU don't see the yellow, who cares??!?

I absolutely agree with you.
I think that a lot of people is having the yellow tinge problem simply because .... They are told to have.

I saw some very bad displays, but also a lot of acceptable iMac changed because "they Are not perfect but my money was".

I am sorry but I think you are simply wrong here.

Many people have compared all of their iMac's to past Apple machines, as well as other standard monitors. ONLY the iMac exhibits these problems. I had two iMac's before I had had enough myself. The screens were truly horrendous. The screen in the image above isn't as bad as mine were, but there is no way anyone should consider that "acceptable" for 2000 dollars. I think many Apple fans are completely losing sight of what 2000 dollars can actually buy you outside of Mac land. OSX is NOT worth that much unless you need it for dev work (which I do). Not enough to be steadily pilfered by Apple. Seriously, if you don't have a screen that can stand up to the myriad of even cheap TN panels out there, for your own sake, don't keep it!

The rest of you, stop defending Apple and blaming the users! Who WANTS a bad machine? I think we have passed the cusp of insanity...

I think this guy only uses his mac to play tennis video games and make music..

Or maybe just listen to music....

Oh and I agree with him, who agrees with that other guy. I've seen plenty of people posting on here asking "Do you think my iMac has the yellow tinge?" and many of those screens look perfect to me, yet many people say "Oh yes, it has the yellow tinge! Return it!"

I wonder how many perfectly fine iMac's have been returned. Haha. Sure the number of iMac's with the yellow tinge was large but I'm sure there were still a lot of iMac's that were perfectly fine and were returned.

If the screen looks good to you, then it must be good. Everyone perceives the world in a different way. :)

I got this problem too. But mine buzzes anywhere below about 40 percent brightness. And it is related to the cpu somehow. Scroll down or up in safari and it goes away. Once you stop it returns. It's the same with opening up programs. Buzz goes away when loading up new programs and comes back when it's done loading.

I learned today that the buzzing starts when the display is asleep and the iMac is hot. When the display comes back on the buzzing will stop, but if I reduce the brightness then it'll start buzzing again. When the display goes back to sleep the buzzing will continue. Once the iMac starts to cool down the buzzing will become less frequent until it eventually stops. It's really loud in my case. I can hear it from the other room sometimes.

Wow, mine is never that loud. It is loudest at the lowest brightness setting and even then while I do hear it, the house must be completely quiet.

It can only be heard from far away when the iMac is really hot. Otherwise I can only hear it when I'm sitting at the computer. Maybe I just have really good hearing :p

@TennisandMusic

I agree with your points completely.

I am buying a 27" iMac i7 with one major selling point being the SCREEN.

I love the screen, and I hope when I order mine, I will not have problems.
However, after 3 weeks of research, I will conduct tests to ensure that my screen is PERFECT, because that is what I expect from a purchase like this.

For $2,500 or so you can go a very long way with choosing a PC.
But I converted to Mac computers 5 years ago, I am a photographer and filmmaker and I need to be able to edit 1080p footage with utter smoothness, and I especially need a screen with accurate color.

I have had the same PowerMac G5 and Sony LCD monitor for 5 years with no problems besides a lone dead pixel from Day 1. I can live with that, but if my color is not even throughout the screen, then my purchase is in vain.

I can stay positive, but I will never "settle" for an "acceptable" machine. No way.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but right now, it is going to be very difficult to find a 100% perfect screen. I'm on my 4th and best so far and even then, still have slight yellow (although much more evenly distributed, not noticeable), and a small backlight bleed.

You say you'll never settle - then this is not the right time to pick one up bud. (I do photography too and used to think like you)

Hey

Thanks, was just my thought some minutes ago :) What i can tell there is no issues that i can see or hear.

Thanks again :) I guess i will not think about it anymore. All other products i have brought have i never been looked this much as a screen to find errors.

So lets just say, in my eyes and in the ones that have seen it of my family, the screen and Mac is perfect :)

Thanks for your time.

From Kehaan.

yeah your pics don't do it justice

heres mine anyway.....

As I said before, THERE ARE actually faulty iMacs with bad display, I saw several on various forums. But there are iMacs with acceptable display returned just because people like you keep trying to convince other users that their Macs is faulty

There is not such a thing like a PERFECT screen, in my experience. I sell Eizo monitors that costs like €2500 and have some gradients. And I sell to professional people. Some Are acceptable and some absolutely not.
But no One is perfect

Thank you, I've been repeating this like a mantra in here. The yellow tinge is unacceptable. However, there is no such thing as a perfect display with absolute color uniformity, corner to corner. It does not exist. Not on Macs, and not on high end professional displays either.

This is my third iMac and all three had some level of gradient.

Correct, especially with such a large dimension

Of course no screen is perfect. Some have more yellow tinge, some have less.

The difficulty however is: what is acceptable? It is very subjective and also depends on the intended use.

I agree with you, but reading all the threads in this forum there REALLY are people returning iMacs simply because they were told to.

Right on ! I Agree

i really hope i get mine yellow free , here in my country we dont have apple official store only distributors and resellers.

fingers crossed when i order my 2 imac 27" i7

I received my Week 6 i7 two days ago which has a slight yellow tinge in the lower right corner as well as a top-to-bottom stripe on the left hand side. There is also a subtle horizonal shadow running along the bottom of the display that looks like this.

As I mentioned in another thread, I might be able to live with it in the long run, but wanted to note that I do not have anything like this on either my 15" MacBook Pro screen or 24" LED Display that I am getting ready to sell.

How come you're selling the ACD? How much? :D

kavik mine has the line

as well as the one I returned...its very faint..and I really only notice it when Im booting into the mac...otherwise dont really see it....mine has slight yellow to it..it think the mac white is yellowish by nature...your photo doesnt look bad..if the mac has no dead pixels, isnt making weird noises...and seems quiet..i'd keep it..if it bothers you wait a couple of months..then all the prob will be fixed and see if they will swap it or repair it...im keeping mine..as I dont want them to open the screen up...im getting use to it.

Ok, maybe there is not a perfect screen on any apple computer and consumer Displays.

But if you buy a $25,000 Cinetel Monitor for Color Grading Films, I guarantee you you will make an exception for this monitor because perfection, I believe, does exist if you know how to find it.

I've been dealing with a dead pixel (blue) in the center of my screen for 5 years but I have learned to ignore it. I strive for perfection, but I am also a realist.

What I was trying to say is, for the price, and my eye, it better look pretty damn near flawless, and from what I have seen in the stores, if you get a proper display, the color/luminosity is more than acceptable for editing film/video/photos.

The problem with iMacs in the store is that the lights are so bright that there is just no way you will see the yellow. You probably will not hear the buzz either - and you certainly won't see any backlight bleeding.

To keep you updated, I called Apple today and I'm getting a refund and waiting for the summer. I wish you luck.. even if the displays are fixed permanently in the next month or two, I'd rather wait for the next revision - not to mention back to school deals..
