iMac i7

Hey, I've been extremely concerned about the DOA, yellow tint, and flickering imacs. I ordered an 27 inch i7 8gb on Jan 4, 2010. I finally arrived on Feb 1, 2010. When the FedEx guy brought it to my door it was on its side *sigh*. Based off of everything I had read, I had fully expected to be giving AppleCare that day. To my surprise, it arrived in perfect condition! No tint, no flickering, or cracks. It runs World of Warcraft extremely well. I've been using the computer extensively, and I haven't noticed a single problem. Just to be on the safe side, I have decided that I am definitely going to pay for AppleCare. Serial number says W8005xxxxxx. So I guess it was made in week 5.

Hey guys,

Here is my week 5 iMac

i dunno if my eyes are playing tricks (been looking at it for past few hours) on me so i could use someone else opinion if i have a yellow tinge problem or not

dsc0120ys.jpg

i took this with a nikon d90

and when i open the image in photoshop and i use the eyedropper tool .. and if i pick a spot at the middle of the grey bar (right hand) i get the RGB of 131/133/141 and if i move down in the same line to the middle of the bottom grey bar i get the RGB of 131/131/130 ...

so if i look at it that way i have the yellow tinge thing but then i dunno if it could be my cam so that is why the image is lil bit off

what do you guys think

Based on that pic, you have a tinge. Another test is to open a new finder window and move it up and down while staring at the toolbar. If it looks "warmer" as you move it down, then the tinge is there.

I just got an i5 iMac yesterday. It looks good so far, but I am not an expert. Is the yellow overwhelming? How do you guys know what week your iMac's are? Thanks.

I, too got a week 5 with the yellow tinge.

If it looks bad then it is bad. If it looks good then it is good... enjoy your iMac!

I believe you look at the forth and fifth digits of your serial number.

E.g., the one I just sent back was W8005xxxxxx

Where do you guy's see a yellow tinge? Seriously. That screen is perfect. I have a i5 also at work at the screen looks like this one. I have also a few more i5's at the office that have a 'real' yellowing to them. Very noticeable.

This Mac isn't one of them.

I think some of you guy's are just plain nuts.:D

That screen you quoted is clearly very yellow...

Really? Where is the screen uneven in color? Most of the screens I have at the office that are 'yellow tinged' are tinged at the bottom of the screen, not the whole screen. The color bars are clearly uneven due to the yellowing of the screen. His screen does not have that problem.

The 'non-white' screen effect is just that, a effect of the exposure of the picture. If it was a yellow screen the color would be uneven. I just don't see that here. The top left gray bar is a little darker than that of the bottom bar. But that is common of LCD screens. A yellowing screen would show a uneven color from left to right also.

Well then any photo is pointless. It's clear (to me, anyway), that the left of the screen is much whiter, and gets really yellow toward the middle and right.

It would be great if everyone who posted pics of their white/yellowed screens to also let us know if they bothered to do a custom white balance if that was an option for them.

I'm not sure if everyone is white balancing properly.

After receiving my 27" i7 (week 4) I have been looking over the screen and can't see a problem. What I have noticed is that when you look at the screen at an angle, from the top or bottom, I do notice some yellowing, but it's very minor. I also had a buddy of mine do the same thing on his 27". He noticed some slight yellowing when looking at an angle but when he looked straight on, nothing.

For all of you with a perfect 27". Don't want to spoil the fun for you nor do I want to sound like a negative person but I have returned 4 iMacs because of this problem that does not seem to exist until you have played around with the Mac for a couple of hours or so.

Examine a pure white screen (I mean really examine it closely and slowly). Do you see a slightly dark speck inside the LCD, not in between the glass and the LCD but underneath the LCD itself. It should be the smaller that a sesame seed.

Thanks. :)

It really is dust in between the glass and screen. I popped my glass out and blew off a speck myself.

Based on that picture, I can see the tinge in the center (like a middle vertical stripe thing) towards the bottom.

think i have to chime in...

Croatia's screen looks pretty decent to me..if I stare at the pic,,maybe a very slight yellow towards the right...but truthfully not like the one I had or seen.
Do you see yellowing in mine? Im just curious...because it looks decent to me?

One other thing none of you has pointed out, mine and the one previously returned had a slight black stripe, about an inch from the bottom. .i can provide pics of this..but you know what, if I stare at the white sometimes it seems I see yellow spots just because Im looking for them. I bought the applecare and will wait rather than return now...in 6 months if the monitor gets worse by that time..they will have fixed all problems...i'll tell them to fix mine...
Curious if anyone else has noticed the faint black stripe on a white background...all of them...have it..if you look carefully.but at what point do you keep it...those on the 5th unit..i'd ask for my money back and wait a few months then repurchase...apple stores will not keep giving you a replacement...

a little experiment to try...

turn your background on the mac to pure white...then take a pic..I increased the iso, so to get what im seeing on my imac..and this is what it looks like. Croatian, lets see yours without the grey bars....with solid like here and lets see what it looks like?

Can someone comment on their week 6 or later

I would like to know if the week 6 Imacs have the newer screens or not now that Apple is calling people for screen replacements.

The bottom bars have a CLEAR and strong yellow bias. It's a bad screen.
