The only real downside with the 14-inch MacBook Pro is the price.

And why exactly should you upgrade your M2 , M1 or even late Intel MBP for? They should fire their PR department if they're saying this:
... Other option is waiting. My 2014 13" Pro is dated but it's only really a problem with lightroom. But the speakers are broken and the space is all filled up, so while I could last another year, and probably should since the computer is mostly still okay, I dont really want to.
Decisions decisions....
No. It's looking like a refurb 14" M2 Pro with 16/512, depending on what Black Friday looks like. Same $1599 as the base M3.Are you upgrading to the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro? Let us know why or why not in the comments below.

It's like a car with a black spot on the front window: Useless and painful to look at.
I did watch the video. Direct quote:"... In my opinion it's well worth the extra $300..."you clearly didn't watch the video
Over the M2 13" Pro? Definitely. More storage, bigger and better screen, better speakers, better battery life, more I/O, Magsafe...I did watch the video. Direct quote:"... In my opinion it's well worth the extra $300..."
And it will do what exactly better than the last three generations with the same specs?Over the M2 13" Pro? Definitely. More storage, bigger and better screen, better speakers, better battery life, more I/O, Magsafe...

It's an entry level MBP. Aside from battery, what advantage to everyday light weight tasks does it have over the same spec 2020 intel MBP? Let alone M1 or M2 13 inch MBP.It has more storage, bigger and better screen, better speakers, better battery life, more I/O than the last 3 generations of the 13" Pro.
Can only support a single monitor if that’s important to you.I like to think I'm a "power user" but in reality I'm not. My M1 Mac mini (base 8/256) has been awesome for me for three years now. Gotta admit I'm thinking about getting a base M3 14" MBP and using it in clamshell mode to replace my Mac mini 95% of the time and as a portable 5% of the time. Any thoughts on this approach?
I would choose 2 because 1 won't fit in my bag, but my NotchBook Pro does fit in my bag. I would choose a 14" screen with notch over a 14" screen with a no notch but a thick top bezel.1. A 9000 inch screen with notch.
2. A 14 inch screen without notch.
I would choose number 2. every time, because there is nothing ruining the screen.
Most modern car windshields have a notch where the rearview mirror is (and active safety and lane-centering/keep tech). It's like a car with a black spot on the front window: Useless and painful to look at.

My thoughts exactly! If you have last years model there is no reason to upgrade if you don’t have the $$$ to do so. In this economy lots of folks have to make what they have last longer. Thankfully the M series processors, including the M1, makes this pretty easy.Macrumors not everyone has this kind of disposable income.
Dump a 1 year old notebook? Is that really a recommendation?
You must be a time traveller. This has not been an issue for quite some time. Most important thing: no more butterfly keyboard
But why should you upgrade for these kinds of tasks even from Intel 2020 to M2 Air with the same RAM/SSD specs? Again, aside from the battery life. They're not the same specs, though.
If you're just doing lightweight tasks, buy the M2 Air, which is a better computer than the 2020 Intel in every way.
One of the least cited reasons to upgrade is silence. By the end the Intel MBs would have their fans spinning loud enough to hear if you even thought about launching an app.But why should you upgrade for these kinds of tasks even from Intel 2020 to M2 Air with the same RAM/SSD specs? Absolute nonsense. I have 2020 Intel MBP runnig Ventura and it's completely silent. One of the least cited reasons to upgrade is silence. By the end the Intel MBs would have their fans spinning loud enough to hear if you even thought about launching an app.
