Tire until you see the next one above it. At $1799, it doesn’t look like it’s worth it when compared to the $1999 base M3 Pro config. You get 2GB more RAM, quite a few more cores for $200. You’re not going to get any better mileage out of that $200 inside the Apple Store.
except that's another $200 on top of the initial $200, I don't need the M3 Pro or the extra 2gb of RAM, I do need and want the pro hardware features of the 14" chassis.
So I've saved $200 😊

No, davedude. This is what you used to get for the money versus what these new machines offer as an upgrade nowadays in comparison. 13 inch MBP was never a Pro machine to begin with.
So you value features you never use more than obvious quality of life improvements like dramatically battery life and processing speed.

lol okay

Arguably none of the 13" Pros since 2016 were ever "Pro" computers.

I have a 2020 Intel 13” MBP, which works perfectly fine for what I use it for (mostly web browsing), but the 14” M3 is pretty tempting. ProMotion on my iPhone is probably the biggest quality of life upgrade I’ve had for that device, so I’m wondering if the experience will be similar on the newer MBP. (Maybe it’s less noticeable since it’s not a touchscreen?)

Also they say I can get $475 trade in for my current MBP, which is quite good.
I was in a similar situation to you, however I also wanted the bigger better quality screen, the better camera and far better speakers, it was a no brainer for me, ordered mine 2 days ago

Yeah, I'm going to say the notch is not a good reason to upgrade.

At $1,599, buyers may be better off getting a refurb 14" MBP M2 Pro 16/512 from Apple Refurb store than a 14" MBP M3 8/512. I think the extra memory will server users better in the long run than the 11% higher Geekbench single-core score of the M3.
If I thought that was a better option, I would have done it, instead of ordering the m3 😊

I have an option to use these features if needed and when needed and I do. The original point I was making is that these new machines do not offer any substantial upgrades over the three generation old machines for the most light weight computing tasks with the same RAM/SSD specs. I'm not sure how dramatic of an increase in processing speed one needs for internet browsing, email or MS Office/Generic productivity apps. Once again, as I have pointed out before, battery life not withstanding.

Meanwhile, me: "Here's why you should stay with your M1 MacBook Air..."

Thanks, MacRumors, for helping Apple contribute to the overconsumption treadmill we're all trying to get off.
Indeed

I have a 2018 MacBook Air, and a 2013 iMac 27 inch. I use both for my work to earn an income, including a lot of international travel with the laptop. And, I have not a single reason to update the laptop. At some point I will need to update the desktop, but still holding out for hopefully a new 27 inch iMac.

As a note, seeing a rumours site giving a “should” recommendation to buy the latest thing is so strange.

I am a college student who just play league of legends, watch youtube videos and do college assignments.
I am not sure if I go for an M2 air with 16gb and 1tb memory; a M3 pro with M3 chip with 8gb ram and 512gb.
Or other options…

Please I accept any suggestions/help
If you play games, like a bigger better quality screen & speakers? Then the 14" M3 is the one for you, I would also recommend upgrading to 16gb of RAM, if that's more than your budget now, then wait until February and get a refurbished one from Apple

But why should you upgrade for these kinds of tasks even from Intel 2020 to M2 Air with the same RAM/SSD specs? Again, aside from the battery life.
Because some people have been programmed by the you tubers, to think the air is the bees knees, rather then a very much compromised machine 🤣

I have a 2012 MBP that came with 8GB and 750 HDD. I upgraded it to 1 GB SSD for $100. 11 years later Apple wants to sell me the same RAM and 1/3 the storage. I don’t have the love for this company I once had.
This. 2012 ...8 GB RAM. 2023...8GB RAM.... Jeez. I imagine all Pro branded Mac products would have a minimum 16GB RAM base. Guess we'll have to wait until 8GB sticks run out ....Tim probably has a huge surplus purchased so we could be in for a long wait.

It's an opinion, like every post on this site, are they not allowed to have opinions?
I'm sure they won't be recommending an upgrade for the M3 Pro as strongly, for the M1 & m2 Pro users

If you bought the 13 pro because of the size and weight then the 14 will feel heavy, especially if you use it in bed. I would wait for a 13 Air update.

You two might want to read the article again and focus, you might get your facts right 😏
If you don't think there is some Apple money behind this website and its opinions, you may need to focus.

but the GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing so gameplay will be improved.
Will it? Do we have benchmarks to back that up? Cos raytracing on even a 4090 tanks the framerate, so I have a hard time believing whatever RT hardware they can fit on a SoC will be remotely usable.

But the notch though. The notch alone is a deal breaker for me.
Sorry. I will not buy anything with a notch, I want the full screen without anything ruining it.
I JUST cancelled my MBP M3 order because of that bloody notch. Maybe I’m just too OCD but it looks so awkward. Unfortunately, my Intel Mac isn't going to make it before they remove the notch (it took 7 years to finally remove touch bar). Since I have to replace my laptop soon, I’m hoping the more reasonably priced M3 Air won’t feel as salty when/if I do. Please laptop make it and may Apple launch M3 Air in early 2024. 🤞

Isn't it hilarious how this article's pushing you to toss out last year's Mac for this year's shiny new one, and saying it's genius? Soon, we'll be swapping Macs every six months! Cook's yacht fund goal must be on the horizon. What's that? 8GB of RAM? Please, my grandma always said newer is better – 8GB is totally enough!
